Sprezzatura is Italian for staying classy, stylish yet creating the appearance of carelessness.
I love that kind of style.
You throw some old piece on.
You add a nice scarf to it, and some nice looking newly renovated 20-year-old Churches shoes?
You have to know Sprezzatura if you are reading GQ or other men's magazines. Especially if you are going to the fashion week in London. Sprezzatura will be present there.

This is the first time I have seen your blog, you explain this word so well. I’m a 60yr old soon to retire from the RCN and have started breaking from uniformity that I have been required to follow for 43yrs. Unlike some of my contemporaries who upon retiring from the service, dress like skids, grow long hair, ponytail,ear rings. All in an attempt to show their new found freedom, my step Greek father and French Canadian step mother are wealthy owning ancestral home in Sparta and a summer home on the island of Rhodes.(let’s not forget their Canadian mansion) my step father is 80, looks like 60. The exact image of what you show here, the kids laugh that if he wore his cloths back here in Canada people would do a double take. Since we have lived all around the world, I’ve devised I like the Paris/ Milan look. Quite surprising I get comments daily when wearing civilian cloths, from tweed in the winter to what you have shown for the summer. Thank you for the very unique word and it’s full meaning. Stay safe.

@Tony C You are right to say so. Sprezzatura is an appearance of the seemingly accidental made profound. Pitti, not anywhere near so much, their "style" is conceited and approaching sartorial belligerence.

Two 3 years ago I opened a men's clothing store. We sold brands like Rodd and Gun, Ben Sherman, Onassis, and several others. I took a buyout and moves into IT but now I'm looking to break back into fine men's clothing. I love what you are doing, keep this up.

This is fascinating and for me, really valuable. Thank you. I think I get it - so, the inherent flaw in a hand-tied bow tie is a form of sprezzatura? But something like an untidily rolled shirt cuff that reveals a killer watch - is that Sprezzy? How about leaving your vest belt untied if the vest already fits you properly - I think we're straying into sloppy there or is that just studied unfussiness? Is it like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in "Robin & The 7 Hoods"? Sinatra is not a stitch out of place, 100% on point for that breezy mid 60's men of a certain age style, whereas Martin looks, at first glance, a hot mess but after a minute or two you see he looks exactly like you expect Dean Martin to look - raffish, super confident, seeing style as a means to an end and trying to get to the end with as little muss and fuss as possible - a vest button undone here, a tie that borders between genius and vulgarity, a hat cocked just the right way - declaring, in his way not just "I am Dean Martin" but "I am also the best Dean Martin Tribute act in the world. No one does Deano like me". or is it more like James Bond wearing suits which demonstrably don't fit him in the last two films? It must be a thin line between Sprezzy, sloppy and looking like a tryhard....

I think that pitti is probably the exact opposite of sprezzatura. Sprezzatura is supposed to be elegant but not looking fussy, like calculated nonchalance which makes you look more natural and at ease in your clothes

@@MichaelFrackowiakBespokeTailor Spezzatura is the art of looking effortlessly well dressed. What you have presented is the polar opposite. Your outfit reeks of effort and comes up short. What you are actually doing is flamboyant but lacking the casual flair. I am not trying to attack you in any way (hence my comment is on another's comment) but unfortunately what you have done is not true Spezzatura.
