That was a wild cold start, started up pretty well, you must keep it well maintained; and the best part is it sounds better than a VQ.

Does it also starts fast and slow down after hacking the second hand?
@JamesMuehlnerАй бұрын
No
@JamesMuehlner9 күн бұрын
Ok I tried setting the time and watching more carefully and noticed it actually does seem to freewheel for a second or so, but the second also doesn't start moving immediately when the crown is pushed in, so the net effect is that time setting works as expected.

I don’t understand this video, what exactly is supposed to happen?
@Foxis1080Ай бұрын
the spring that supplies the energy to the powertrain is being wound. The spring starts to unwind and starts the movement and then you can see it regulate itself a few seconds later
@cjgent24 күн бұрын
@@Foxis1080 or another way to explain, the mainspring powers a spinning wheel that has magnets on it, those magnets are near coils that produce electricity from the spinning wheel. That current is sent to the integrated chip and then to a quartz crystal. Once the chip receives the oscillations from the quartz it then uses that data to regulate the spinning wheel to maintain accurate time. The watch second hand is fast at first because the watch is "booting up".

As much as I like this watch, 5 grand for it is insane.

5k for this watch is a bargin
@foxify5220 күн бұрын
@thesnarbo2814 it's not worth spending the same as a used car on something to tell the time. Besides, there are Rolex clones out there that are just 500 dollars but are practically indistinguishable from real and even use official serial numbers.
@TeKaNee17 күн бұрын
That's why Rolex would be considered overpriced because there are cheap clones indistinguishable from the real. Spring Drive, on the other hand, is difficult to replicate, and at a high cost that it's not worth doing so. Watches are expensive, because they are expensive to make.
@StaticVapour5909 күн бұрын
@@foxify52 Buying fake rolex is stupid. If you have budget of 500 for a watch then buy something that's actually made by a brand. Buy a Seiko / Citizen / Orient Star or slightly older used Swiss automatic like Certina / Tissot / Hamilton. Owning a watch that's over 1k, 2k, 5k, 10k doesn't mean anything to a person that's not familiar with watches, you cannot impress anyone by touting that you got 15k on your wrist (except golddiggers and idiots) and also it makes you look like a douche at that point. As a watch hobbying myself I have watches ranging from almost free to a few grand. I have met people in clubs and whatnot I have only encountered few times a random person ask about my watch because to them it looked interesting, and then I have answered their questions about it (oh nice watch, what is it..) and I have even let some inspect the watch in their own hands. I have only twice heard the "how much does one of these cost" question, then I have answered. One person dropped their jaw onto the floor after I told them that the Victorinox Swiss Army AirBoss Automatic I had was like bit over 500 used, he expected it to be way more than that. Second one was surprised that a watch (Longines HC) could cost so much, whether she was buying a watch as a gift for someone, I don't know..
