Yeah. The problem is that fashion is maddeningly temporal. Everything, from t shirt to socks has to have the new ding dong thing. Crew neck? No, its V neck now. No its round neck now. Its slouchy, its fitted, its short, its puddling around your toes like a dirty train....it just never stops.

Yes! It all depends on our body type. As a petite woman, I think oversized blazers look like I'm wearing my dad's suit. I don't want to look like that because I wear blazers to feel powerful, definitely not like a little girl. But I love how oversized blazers look like on other people. I think the key for blazers is to ignore the trends and to buy the style that we feel good while wearing.
@supataus Жыл бұрын
Interestingly I feel the opposite about the first trend: I think for a lot of people, the frayed edge will make the garment look 'worn' or 'cheap' faster and so it will quickly become disposed of (even if 'raw edge' generally is still in!), whereas a good blazer might be adapted to fit one's wardrobe for many seasons, even if it is no longer cutting edge.

Just a wee pushback on the ‘cinched blazer’ trend. Everything you said was true, and …I’m a fat, hour-glass figured person. Those oversized, slouchy blazers look terrible on me. I know, ‘cause I have one 😭 Seeing a cinched blazer makes me want to try belting my oversized one, and if it works, maybe I can get my beautiful-but-not-on-me blazer tailored to be the real, long-lasting blazer for MY life. Basically, rather than seeing this as a trend, I’m taking it as an alternate silhouette that might be just what I’ve been waiting for. Hope that makes sense. And thank you, as always, for another lovely video.

Yes it makes perfect sense that’s kinda what I was thinking ❤️ A silhouette that you like on your body doesn’t have to be “in style” to wear it, but as things come and go you can cherry-pick elements to apply to your own personal style long term!

The cinch waist blazer is a sale staple of Banana Republic. I adore the brand since the 2010s, I tried every versions of their long and lean blazers. Honestly though, they are not cute on a busty girl. The lapels bulge over my chest when I try to button it up. If I go up a size, the shoulders become too large and create crease around the arms. If possible, I'd recommend having your blazer tailored, or if you're into a bit of structure and ready to wear, I'd look into vintage men's sport jacket. It's like a perfect marriage of slouchy and tailored look, very roomy in the chest area too.

agree with all of this, AND i think the cinched waist look is very timeless and classic- it immediately reminded me of 40s and 50s women's suiting. i like the oversized blazer look (not on me though!) but i would definitely consider it the more "trendy"/short-lived of the two.

Seconded. I agree with Hannah overall on the problems with chasing trends, but I doubt this one is the sort of wide-reaching shift in fashions that will make other types of blazers obsolete (as opposed to those awful years where it was difficult to find anything but low-rise pants, or skinny, or inexplicably cropped, etc.). To me, patchwork denim reads very "$400 Shein Haul of the Week;" though after watching Next in Fashion S2, one of the contestants Nigel persuaded me to a more favorable position towards it, when worn in a dirty, Woodstock-y way. Even though no one was probably wearing denim patchwork flares there. Also, we as a society must embrace dirty, creased white shoes! Consider this a call to action. When you catch me getting coffee in my rugged New Balance sneakers, it's not unkempt. It's edgy. It's angsty. It's hip. It's authentic. Respect the filthy white shoes!

Thank you. This comment made me grin! My white Skechers that I use if the weather allows it (I don't care if they get dirty, but if it's raining, I'm gonna wear rubber boots because I don't want my feet to get wet, you know?), no matter where I'm going, WILL be dirty and creased and they will likely NEVER be pristine and white anymore - but I kinda feel about them like I feel about books. My Skechers are visibly loved, because they are visibly worn. A perfectly pristine book looks like it's never been read, looks like it isn't truly loved. A perfectly pristine pair of sneakers might as well be on a shelf in the shoe store, because what's the point of buying them if you're not going to wear them and proudly let it show that you love your purchase? A shoe not worn, is a shoe wasted. And I have so many things in my life that are so much more important than how clean my sneakers look. I don't got time to take out the wet wipe every time I get a speck of sand on my shoes!

As someone who grew up very poor, I generally love denim with a DIY feel to it. It reminds me of my cool auntie altering her wranglers in the 90s to look kind of rock and roll. I feel like there’s an inherent coolness that goes with denim on denim because it just totally rejects sophistication and any New Money sort of trend aesthetic. But every once in a while it gets reappropriated into the fashion zeitgeist and then I feel like while it’s (literally) in Vogue, it looses it’s punk-ness until it’s “uncool” or “rural” again. Love some Hannah fashion content, and love the emphasis here on accessibility and applying a trend to your personal style vs being dragged by the hair into one. haha. I think one of the things that drives me nuts about something like "cinched blazers" is that aside from the fashion industry lobbying at all of us to buy an oversized blazer for years, there's no effort made to be like, "Take that blazer and wrap a belt around it. Voila, cinched!" Essentially, a way to take what you may already have and style it into a trend, making one garment reusable. I get that that'd be totally counterintuitive to the fact that they, ya know, want all your monies. haha. But so many clothing items have so much inherent versatility, and they get shoved into specific use-boxes to make people think they have to buy more. So there we have... a rant. haha. But I just really appreciated your framing. :)

And I think I can sum it up by saying that each time this trend makes its way around, I look at the people that are fully embracing the trend and I do not align with any of their style or aesthetic. This was established in the 80s and reinforced each decade that it peaks its head up in the corporate trend consciousness. It feels very Bruce Springsteen, Kid Rock, and american tourist. Yes, I’m American, Texas-born specifically, but I never wanted to dress that way. I feel the same response to the denim, and in trying to figure out where my feelings are coming from I've had two things surface. 1) Denim is a relatively new material in the scope of fashion history, and because we're so close to its origin we still very much associate it with its origin as protective, durable fabric for workwear. This association is exactly what lends a good pair of jeans their cool factor, and also what makes it feel just plain stupid to have it show up in pieces that don't seem geared for labor. I get that THAT'S PROBABLY THE POINT for many designers (subversion of origin--neat!) but I just don't vibe. Maybe in a couple of hundred years, once there's more temporal distance between the origin of the fabric and the people wearing it, it won't hit anyone the way it hits me. 2) Re: jean skirts in particular...I grew up homeschooled in dipped in and out of some intense religious fundamentalist communities, and jean skirts were the most practical clothing that many of my female friends were allowed to wear. Wasn't my experience in my own family (and I actually had one jean skirt from my past that I'd gladly wear again), but I do associate that particular garment with a certain level of direct oppression of women.

Thank you for your thoughtful takes on current trends! I always enjoy hearing what you are thinking about this kind of thing; it helps calm the compulsion to keep up with the changing shapes of blazers and other “hamster wheel”-type trends, and your thoughts give me me a lot to think about myself. So thank you. Also, while I respect your response to the “denim everything” trend, and I personally think a lot of it looks weird or cheap or even trashy, I have also seen some upcyclers create unique and interesting and really cool pieces from denim which would otherwise be languishing in thrift stores or the backs of closets because of dated washes or cuts, or poor fit for the wearer. On the Blueprint DIY channel here on KZbin, she has been helping people learn to resize their jeans or remake them in interesting ways for years, but now the kind of work she does is enjoying a moment in the spotlight. So, I think the spirit of the trend fits with the idea of sustainability and staying power and accessibility, at least for folks willing to cut into a pair of jeans and try their hand at remaking them, and I think upcycled denim can look really good, especially when it’s done skillfully and the style fits into the wearer’s aesthetic more authentically than the type of fashion girlies you mentioned in the video. Again, thanks for sharing your takes, and I hope you have a lovely day!

My hot take is that I find the idea of being on-trend kinda cringe nowadays 😬 not against newer trends being incorporated into a look alongside older favourites, but if I saw someone wearing just cutting-edge styles I’d feel a bit “meh” about it! Just me?! 😂

I LOVE denim. And I am all in when it comes to the denim trends this season! I feel exactly the opposite with this trend. I think it is very inclusive because there are so many options how to wear this trend. I wear jeans every day anyway, and for the past 3 years also been wearing double denim outfits. I already have denim skirts too. There is still snow on the ground and cold where I live but I have already prepared for the summer season by building my spring summer closet for the denim trends! Everything I bought so far I found in thrift stores! A light blue denim jacket, a maxi denim skirt, classic denim shorts, vintage fitted denim shirt, vintage loose jeans (all the clothes listed before by Levi’s, so they are also classics), acid wash denim shorts, bicoloured jeans (not 850€ but 1,50€) and, I even found a denim vest. Going to be wearing all this with designer bags and whatever.

Thanks so much for walking us through some of these trends and confirming some of my thoughts as well! Letting go of trends was very freeing for me for quite awhile (I've been living in dresses for years), but I'm starting to dabble in them a bit more. I'm really happy to see more bold colours on this list. Also, re: cinched blazers - I'm actually really happy to see these making a comeback. A lot of the oversized, boxy fits that have been popular look awful on my short, busty frame. Glad to have some options again.

I skipped the oversize blazer trend, saving myself for the cinched trend to come. Now it's my time to shine! 😊

I laughed out loud when you got to detailed denim. Somehow, I anticipated a trend! Having made denim jackets (lined and unlined) and a vest for my husband over the last several years, I had quite a collection of denim scraps. So, I made a patchwork tailored vest for myself from four shades of blue denim, top stitched in gold thread with gold colored buttons. It works great with heeled ankle boots, dark wash jeans and a silky shirt. It also works paired with a white tee and a gathered indigo tie-dyed skirt I've had forever. Last week I wore it with a mustard sweater and tailored brown skirt, oh, and structural statement earrings that I've had for over 40 years. I have to say that the examples you showed of detailed denim seemed too trendy fast fashion. I can't imagine them staying in the front of the closet next year or even this fall.

I literally dug out my thrifted vintage long denim skirt yesterday and thought what a beautiful piece…why don’t I wear this more. Welp here’s my chance. 🎉

I don't like jeans, and I used to dislike this sort of denim thing, but then I got a thrifted denim maxi skirt a few years ago that's stitched together in a way that makes it twirl-able, and now I can't get enough. But I was little in the 90s and I totally get where you're coming from.

I agree on your thoughts about blazer trends, but I am still happy that cinched in blazers are in. I don’t like oversized items on myself and I’ve been wanting a nice narrower blazer for a long time. Finally I can find one that I can cherish for a long time!

I can relate to the white shoe issue, I like to buy water protecting spray, a foam that get stains off of soft fabric shoes and a white shoe polish from my local supermarket to combat any of those stains. Those kinds of products are useful for a lot of my lighter coloured shoes. But of course all of my soft fabric shoes get the waterproof spray

Your video was a pleasure to watch, I love your logic and stance, and how clearly you explain what's what, and why. I never followed fashion, really, but I love clothes and now in my fifties, feeling like I should pay a bit more attention how I dress. Also I finally have more time (and slightly more money), to dress - but I still don't like following trends and channels like yours are so refreshing. You put structure into my intuitive decisions, which makes me feel more confident, so thank you for that

Your bangs look so amazing these days! Also, Martina lily just reviewed some adept eyeshadows and she mentioned you (the only person/time she’s ever referenced on her channel I feel like) as who she believes might love one of the palettes since you love a really grungy oil slick textured shimmer look but it was too much for her. Just letting you know in case you’re interested/still receive PR from adept!

Your love of art and fashion, combined with your irreverence toward the fashion industry is very refreshing. The literally constant pursuit of what's trendy is exhausting, toxic, as well as financially and evnironmentally wasteful. It's probably the biggest fashion lovers who are the most savvy to the industry's marketing bullshit 😂

I like your take on those trends, and funny how your comments on them are purely of personal taste. In reality thats all what it is: which current “trends” fit into your personal taste and you will wear? And I mean thats like everybody! And thats how, even in a world of trends, we still are able to keep our personal style! Please keep doing the fashion videos I love those! Would like to see more house and decor stuff too!

Boxy blazers remind me of the mid-80s in high school, when me and my friends raided a grandparent’s closet of huge vintage men’s jackets from the 30s -50s and would wear them over diaphanous lacy white tops. We were so much cooler than the crap that is usually shared for 80s fashion! I’m with you re the why of ‘detailed denim’ (why o why??) but I do have to say that Glenn Martins shredded (grated??) denim at Diesel is freakin amazing. Now that would be an awesome fashion weekend warrior project!

Great video. I have tried on many of the oversized blazers and just don't like the look on me. I have always loved the nipped in waist look and would wear that even if it is not on trend. I like to see what is trending and will wear things I already own more often or maybe thrift something. I have never just gone out and purchased trends new because they are so short lived. I love a boho vibe and enjoy working that kind of ascetic into my outfits. Since boho is really dated right now I will keep it to just that one piece but when it comes around again I will rock it. Everything comes around again so keeping things I love means when things trend I can really showcase some of my older things.

I love looking at trends, not because I ever feel like I need to follow them but because I keep a small list of the pieces I feel I would really like to add to my wardrobe for each season I live on a tight budget and am disabled so I have more specific needs from my cloths then some for example highwaist jeans or trousers for when I'm in my wheelechair. I find if I watch what is "Trendding" I know what peices will be easier for me to find. Really for me thats all trends are good for.

I am excited about the cinched waist blazers to come back, because on my body shape, slouchy ones look horrible (I am really short and have some curves) - I agree that for people who follow fashion mindlessly it is money down the drain... but for me, finally some blazer I could wear, because I just sat out the oversized boxy blazers. For the raw hem / unperfect finish, I am a bit apprehensive about how the garment is going to hold up / last. I love bright colors coming back - maybe I was ahead of my time, because I have been craving and buying some bright colored trousers (and tops and jackets and bags) even last year a bit of 2021. Moto inspired items - I like how vague it is... I like the moto styles more than I don't, but there are certain elements that would be too much for me. White shoes - I feel you so much on this! I live a moderately unexciting lifestyle in a capital city, but with a lot of walking and taking public , and even though I am not super dirty, I am not compulsively checking on how a certain garment is holding up on me and I might accidentally kick a few things along the way. I have a white sandal that I love but I had to clean and repaint it so much because of scuffs and dirt showing up on it... still love the aesthetic, though, especially for summer. I am also excited for the denim maxi skirt - I have been trying to scout some affordable options for quite a while, meaning several years, and I could not find one (I can be really particular, though :D)... now there would be a lot more options. Not sure about the patchwork ones, though - I love them on other people, cannot envision myself in them. I am really hoping that the tailored trend is going to come with crisp white shirts that either have a bit of stretch on them or cinched a bit, because the shirts that I come across are usually not fit for my bigger bust.

Re: the denim pieces... It's like when Captain von Trapp arrived home with Baroness Schraeder and saw his children climbing in trees wearing clothes made from Maria's curtains. It just looks like poorly executed homemade clothing; the garment equivalent of a DIY painting project on Trading Spaces.

I have a mildly cinched blazer I put away, because the oversized boxy blazers were so popular and everywhere. I really thought I kept it because I like it, I’d rather decided to archive it in order to try the oversized trend. I thrift and a couple of really nice oversized. Blazers I enjoy very much. I think that he also is getting a blazer that fits you well in the arms it is boxier the body. I think it’s a great combination of both a cinched and oversized look. I have also successfully used those sheet clips to slightly cinch my blazer the back, and it works great!

Cant wait for the return of the classic tailoring of the blazer…. the luckily for the trend of the oversize blazers are waining and luckily for me, I got most of mine in that style from second hand… because they were the trend. The waist defining blazer is the classic female blazer… 😊

Inspired by another one of your videos, I combined two of the trends that you suggested. I wore a long flowy purple skirt with a same color top. I added a grey and purple chunky sweater and it worked really well together. I would not have thought to pair those items but the combination of these two styles turned out to be fairly practical. When I got too hot in the sweater I was able to remove it but still look Purposeful and put together instead of half undressed.

I agree with you that trends MUST be accessible - homemade or a “feel” to a look, absolutely. For the blazer, I’ll just put a belt around my blazers if I want it to look “cinched” but buying a fit that matches one’s style and body will always win out over a Vogue article to me.

I love bright white shoes now. I saw them as impractical before because i live somewhere that it rains a lot, but because i love the way they look, i tried them out. Now i keep buying shoes in white because they really dont get as dirty as i thought they would and when they do start looking dingy i just use a magic eraser on them and then they look perfect!

I'm guessing the denim trend is evoking memories of the 2000s and the people who wore these pieces. I actually broke out a denim maxi skirt I have from that era, and finally paired it with a belt, which I wouldn't have touched back then. What a difference in comfort.

Beautifully made blazer - get genuine 1940's 1050's jacket. Or get men's vintage jacket and have it tailored (it is a simple tailoring to open the lining, open the side seams, take them both in). OR even easier, wear the jacket with with a wide belt. Cherry red pants reminds me that at a very large charity jumble sale I was volunteering in receiving when a Dior red wool suit came in. White shoes - build that shoe wall unit, put them on display, never wear them.
