I noticed in Lisa Eldridge's video, "Meet my new creation," when she describes what she likes about the lipstick color that she named "Lisa" after herself, she clearly described her preference to erase the blue in her natural lip color toward a slightly warm pink... which she described as "neutralizing." But of course this means her preference is to get rid of the "mucky" blue undertone in her lips. And Lisa uses the term "neutral" to describe how a color functions on the lip, and not to describe the lipstick color itself. So I can see that Hannah and Lisa essentially have opposite preferences for lipstick color undertones. 🦋🧡🦋

Theoretically a true neutral color should cancel (neutralize) her blue tones and cancel others' pinks, purples, reds, and warmth. What I understand and am now in tune to see because I watch HLP is the visible gray and truly neutralized tones with balance and green. I am a muted autumn and Muted is the most important part of any color I choose. Colors that lean warm tend to be so obviously oranged-out and that is lazy and unflattering on most people. Hannah's channel and perspective with detail oriented eye and confident preference choices have been so helpful to me. It's nice to have a valuable source to trust!

I would LOVE a video that takes a look at building a practical makeup collection in much the same way you talk about building an everyday style/wardrobe. These are so often talked about as if they are different and similar considerations don’t apply (where and how do you put on your makeup, whether fragrance is a deal breaker, what your skin needs are, whether you actually go out). How do you curate your makeup collection based on practical needs that lead to a tailored beauty collection of fewer nicer things?

I love your explanation about why the Lisa Eldridge colors don't work for you, because it totally explains why they are perfect for me- my coloring is very saturated and quite pink so all the greys and browns on the lips usually look terrible on me. The pinky undertones allow me to wear more nuanced colors that I usually can't when they are made by other brands.

Patrick Ta is known for loving that shade of pink. He’s made several blushes and lip oils in a Barbie ish pink. I do agree tho I’ve seen a few things with hot pink for holiday. One of the new Oden’s Eye Christmas palettes is very rosy with several pops of pink and I’m here for it. Reminds me of a retro Christmas with a pink tree

I wanted the isamaya black lip oil so much, it reminded me of an old dior black gloss I had in 2009 - it was like a black sheep in the dior gondola in our perfumery, so avant gard....but the isamaya was too expensive! I bought the rituel de fille lip oil in black Thorne and dark Thorne and I think those are STUNNING! IF you're looking for something alike, those are the best.

I think bright pinks and tropical vacation themes for holiday beauty is a nod to luxury. Back when only the most wealthy people could afford wintertime vacations to get out of the cold, it was seen as a status symbol to have clothes and makeup to match. These days, when so many people are struggling to afford the bare minimum and it's circled around to only the most wealthy people being able to afford to escape the cold and go on vacations over the holidays, this trend of magenta and blue and bright colors for the holiday releases seems fitting. 🤷‍♀️ If you're rich. 🤣🤣

I have to agree on the Lisa Eldridge take. I really like her formula, but I cannot seem to find the elusive rosy brown shade that Merit nails. Affair and Muse both were not as described on me and ended up a warm nude and regular pink. But I also have Dragon and love it. However I never expected it to be more than a warm red. Honestly in these moments I kick myself for not trusting temptalia more and thinking Muse looked so pink because of her lighting or whatever lmao

I love Lisa’s new lipsticks, but agree that lip color doesn’t transfer to all skin tones. I have picked up several, and the packaging is amazing and the refills are all aluminum, and the colors are gorgeous. I hope she expands the range as well- maybe we will get dragon one day!!! It’s really a case of going back to makeup’s roots, before plastic and magnets took over. For full disclosure, a color like A Royal Scandal makes me look like I’m dead; which is a look, but not one I’m looking for, especially for work!! 😂 for my zombie Halloween costume, it’s a yes!! ❤

I completely agree with you on the Guerlain advent calendar and all advent calendars, but I will say I think the point of them is to gift rather than to buy for oneself. As a gifter, a lot of people want to give something without necessarily knowing personal preferences, and often to be a bit flashy while doing it. And I guess as a gift receiver, I might be more open to a little taste of everything that I would never buy for myself. But I still think most of it would go to waste. I'd PERSONALLY be more impressed if someone bought me exactly the bottle of perfume I'd been lusting after rather than an impersonal grab bag, but some people are probably just be impressed by the price tag I suppose.

A thing - the packaging - that's just there to look good and serve minimal purpose. I can't imagine that the user experience of that product is any good. Dealing with a chain each time you touch and move the compact. I just imagine it's inconvenient to use.

The Tarte Marakuja Juicy Lip Plump in Tulip was absolutely worth the price for me personally. I do not spend a lot on higher ticket prices but will if I do believe it is worth it and will outperform other options. When I tested it in store I tested a redish color and was very impressed at the long lasting minty and pain free plump as well as the thick, well adhering shine that also out lasts any gloss. By the time I went to buy it they didn't have any shade I wanted and 6 months later decided on a darker pink color based solely on the fact they didn't have the reds and I had light pinks I was wearing already. I actually found the color to be extremely flatterng and wearable and although pink-was not a pink I have had before nor replicated since. I scraped every last bit out!!!!! Also got it for 18bucks on sale. I tried the elf pout clout. Liked it but it is not the same. It doesn't last as long. Doesn't have the shades which actually to me were more nuanced or original in comparison to the elf selection where the light brown leaned orange and the pink was kind of milky pink. These new releases look so juicy I will try them and I hope they have the staying power of the others which most oils do not have. I think any of the Marakuja juicy line is a safe bet!

Love of My Life is a *stunningly beautiful* statement lipstick on me but it's the only shade I've been liking and I'm content with that as my precious Lisa jewel. I don't need more.

The new LE lipsticks are much cooler than past releases. Medici, Romy and Ashes of Roses (the warmest of these three) might work for you! Her "neutral" colors are always too orange for me but I liked these three.

I'm always excited when Lisa releases new lipsticks and shades, because I know the product is worth every cent. Only after buying it comes a slight disappointment 😉 2/3 of my collection I sold long ago because despite the beautiful shades I can't hit the perfect one. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for "ashes of roses" because if it's not the perfect mix of pink and brown I'm looking for, I don't know what to do anymore 😂

The DG gemstone packaging reminds me so much of this doll I got for Christmas one year in the 90s, apparently called “lil miss magic jewels” according to the Buzzfeed list I just checked. I had listed after her for months but my mom really hated all the pink/plastic/princess stuff I loved so eventually my Grandmom bought it for me!

Learning about the issues with mica mining has kinda killed my love for sparkly eye shadow, and sort of makeup in general. Makes it easy to pass on all the new stuff, at least.

i got the new lipstick from LE in Medici and i love it to bits. I'm a pale olive, but i really like pinks on me and this one is just gorgeous.

I have a similar skintone as you do, Hannah, only in the medium range. I totally agree with the LE lipsticks. I made the mistake of buying several and each was a miserable fail on me. I tried the Glossier holiday lip duo and both colors were great (the biscotti was clear on me and the espresso was a nice brown). Only both were VERY scented. Not bad, but extremely powerful. They tasted nice but very overpowering for me. RHODE looks nice but they load up on the silicones which is a hard pass for me unfortunately. Such a shame. I always tell people bag while silicone may be considered “safe”, I will cook with a silicone spatula but I don’t want it on my skin! Since I’ve purged the silicone face as hair care, my skin and hair are absolutely amazing! Although these are all a pass for me, I love watching you ❤

I think you will love the shade "Simon". I am light olive skin and I always look for the neutral/cool browns and this lipstick gives 90's vibe brown.

The Beauty Exec persona is so entertaining haha. I have never been a luxury makeup girly, but that Rabanne highlighter component makes me want it so bad, even though the powder itself is gold. The dolce & gabbana on the other hand… why does it look so cheap? This looks like something I would have swooned over as a child in like the Disney store, it would have been Snow White branded or something with those jewels that the dwarves mined for..
