Spinnerbaits have been around for a long, long time and for good reason. They do work. Plain and simple. I rarely throw a spinnerbait on anything faster than 6.5:1. I prefer to keep that retrieve down to almost a crawl in the early spring. Even though my area has mostly moved into the post spawn, a lot of those big bass are still a bit sluggish and reluctant to commit to something that's zooming by.

I'm a big spinnerbait user. Slow rolling a spinnerbait works any time of year. They are my go to for Largemouth bass and Pike.

Excellent easy to understand and implement content Spring time when water temps are still below 50* I constantly vary the retrieves of both my SP and chatterbaits and fish both as slow as I can and still get a feeling of vibration but will speed it up then slow it down 2-3x every cast as well as pop up my rod tip about 1' 6-8× during my retrieves My son using a war eagle wake bait double Colorado spinner bait 10 days ago caught back to back in five casts two bass that tied for his personal best large mouth using the above retrieve methods I use and taught him that I learned from Matt Stefan Unfortunately he lost that spinnerbait and War Eagle no longer makes it. My son also neglected to tell me while he and his friends went fishing with my gear they lost my other two War Eagle wake bsit spinnerbaits.I had also caught in three previous trips this spring over a dozen bass on that same War Eagle spinnerbait all over 3lbs largest was 5.6lbs was my best performing spinner bait but what made this War Eagle spinnerbait so effective IMO was also what attracted it to me to begin with as it had the two largest Colorado blades (talking HUGE with one #7 and one #5 Colorado blade) I've ever seen on a spinnerbait and Colorado bladed SP's have always for what ever reason I do not know worked best in my local lakes for bass and have done so for over 30 years now Colorado bladed SP's always have out caught both Indiana and willow leaf bladed SP's in my local lakes and I have over 40 spinnerbaits with all kinds of differently configured willow leaf and Indiana blade spinnerbaits that sit unused on my basement fishing tackle bench because I tried tride my best to find one type that worked but none ever came close to catching bass like my Colorado spinnerbaits do And I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why this is I can not express more forcefully how absolutely PO'd I am that War Eagle stopped making thier Wake Bait series of double Colorado bladed spinnerbaits. Seriously thinking of making my own tha ones we lost worked so darn good

Yesterday, I found out what you are describing quite by "Accident"...! Lost my "Fav" spinnerbait, and tied on a 1/2 oz. one that had a small Colorado Orange blade with a #5 Brass Colored Willow blade. Started getting hits ("Short-Strikes", as I call'em), and put a little 3" soft paddle-tail grub on behind. WoW...! What a difference THAT made...! Water is stained pretty much year around, so spinners and chatters are usually the "Go-To" here. Thanks so much for contributing to the Bass Fishing Community, and taking the time to make these "How-To" Videos. (We learn a LOT from them!).

A spinnerbait has been a confidence bait for me for years. For spring fishing my Dad taught me back in the late 70's to keep my rod tip up (at about 45 degrees) and reel just fast enough to feel the thumping of the spinnerbait in the tip of the rod. I usually throw a 3/8 ounce bait with a single colorado blade on it. My color of choice is almost always white. I kill it in the spring with that setup. I used to never use a trailer but I'll add a paddletail swimbait and use one of those dye pens to add some red to it.

Spinner baits for me in here in SoCal is probably in my top 3 baits for years. Definitely speed is the main thing. 3/8 oz is the go to. War eagle is the only brand I use as well. One willow one Colorado blade is solid, thump and flash. I like the bottom blade painted for muddy windy days red or chartreuse. Great video brew.

Great video as usual. I got a lot spinner baits ( and pretty much everything). Just had first day in Michigan. Only had a little time. They got my home lake really low for a while. Only pike found so far. Been faithful with my stuff and the ones you told me about. I will find them and let you know.

That war eagle is money for sure. If you reel over a log close to 90 degrees you can slow down and bump the log and fish will swim 15 ft along that cover to the spinnerbait even in tight lipped conditions. I would add a 6th mistake of not finishing a cast to the boat. A spinnerbait is the most followed lure I've seen besides a swimbait or topwater and I've caught close to a third of my spinnerbait fish within a rod from the boat or bank
@jaybarnett3550

Spinnerbaits are great for slow rolling our natives in Australia. You just about need to be bouncing them off timber to be getting the fish. I like watching your videos there are many similarities and differences between our fisheries. I just watched your video on fishing red too. I like to think of the color spectrum underwater with Red being the first color lost at around 15 feet. Sometimes what looks very strange to our eyes is the first thing to go missing underwater. What looks like a vibrant red blade could be quite subtle at 10-15 feet, where a dark green or blue is probably the most visible color at that depth.

Sup Tyler. Great points. Have perfect spot for Saturday 9th,, when fishing season opens in RI. It's sportsmans club pond so fish from bank. Will apply to spinnerbait and chatterbait I planned on using. It's going to be heavily pressured because we stock trout, will these baits still work under those conditions? Or should I fish a different lure? Tyvm

when I look at the spinnerbait section at Cabellas or wherever, I don't like most of them. Too many of them have the same colored, smooth willow blades. i like big, single hammered blades and even hammered willows. They give much more vibration. I am a fan of war eagles, I like eyes on my spinnerbaits bit those heads are almost too pretty to put eyes on lol.

During summer months with all the weeds all I throw is soft plastics, top water frogs. Before heavy weeds in spring or during fall is when I throw spinnerbaits, floating rapala. Going to try the good old fashioned Rat-L- Trap too. Fishing from the bank is a challenge for sure especially pressured waters. Tight lines my friend.

Not all of us have a boat. Not all of us have thousands of dollars to spend on the "right" gear for every lure. Some of us just want to know if it's possible to catch one or two fish a year without spending our life savings. Unsubscribed.
