Hey Joe good to see you sir 👍 March through May are pretty weird months in Iowa LOL. Every day really is different. Finally getting some thunderstorms rolling through

Like all that firewood right next door!

Hahaha I might honestly have to come back to this spot just for that reason. The free firewood was an amazing bonus. Took away a lot of the camping duty stress of getting enough wood collected

Nice camp as always, also would love to see you catch some fish and fry them up, cheers!!! How would you describe the noises that you heard that night?

They were extremely loud. Not every time though, at it’s loudest once or twice that night it sounded like a full sized oak tree fell into the water. It was honestly kind of crazy, If I was a new time camper I guarantee I would have went back to the car freaked out

Wow Congratulations Pat ! That’s really awesome to hear and not a bad way to spend the weekend if you ask me. Looks like you’ll have extra Christmas presents to but this year

Hey man! You're relatively close to where I live - I've spent a lot of time on the South Skunk further south from where you are here. Always weird sounds... haha. Part of it's charm. Were you able to determine whether or not you were in a legal campsite?

The piece of land my tent was on was in WMA Land but the reason I wasn’t sure is because you might technically have to be further than 100 yards or feet away from a walking trail. So because that trail cut through WMA land I honestly don’t know how it works. Every single person that walked by that day asked me about it and appeared to agree it was a legal spot. Btw interesting that the South Skunk River is apparently noisy no matter where you are. I actually loved it though, was a wild place and a lot of fun. I really love the South Skunk, I absolutely agree that it has a very nice charm to it

@IowaCampClimbHike That's awesome! I honestly didn't know camping was permitted on WMA land. I live in Jasper County and there is actually lore here about supernatural occurrences along the South Skunk. There's also some obscure Bigfoot type mythology, but most of that originated in the late '60s into the '70s. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for what you are doing. Maybe I will see you on the trail one of these days.

Like Mark I also guess beaver. They splash to alarm the others. It's like splashing with a huge flat hand on the watersurface.

Man them things slap HARD. They are hard to spot, I’ve only seen em once but they’re pretty big. I must have been blocking it’s access to the wood pile

I liked the location. So what's the history on the bridge? I'm learning a lot about Iowa.

Thomas that’s actually a great question. I can’t tell you a ton but I do know a lot of old train tracks were converted to trails in Iowa and they left a lot of the old bridges intact. Iowa actually has an extremely impressive network of bike and hiking trails that can take you through that state because of this reason. A lot of people will ride through towns and stop at restaurants

Those slashes were probably the Beaver’s tails. You had traces of Beaver chews that would indicate that. Kerplunk, right? Had that next to my camp, on part 1.

Did you ever get eyes on those raccoons in the wood pile??
@iowacampclimbhike6083
@iowacampclimbhike6083 Жыл бұрын
Haha I only saw them at night when I went to go set my night-lapse up. I looked into the wood pile and literally saw at least 20 eyes looking back at me. You can see eyes really easily in the dark because they reflect the light from your headlamp back at you
