Sir my father-in-law and I have always loved watching your videos. He was an Air Force veteran and I am currently serving in the Marines. We always talked about guns together. Unfortunately, he lost his decade-long battle with cancer and we lost him this past father's day. I've been avoiding watching your videos because they remind me so much of him. In a lot of ways you actually remind me of him. He would have loved this video. Watching this one for him.

Sorry you lost him. It's so hard to lose family members, regardless of their age. One of the benefits of doing this is hearing so many stories from viewers who watch our videos with their older family members. Unfortunately, I hear a lot of stories like yours, as well. After some time passed from losing my dad, I got to where I really enjoyed doing things we did together; it feels like a little visit with him. He was a master carpenter and could build or fix ANYTHING. Every time I go into a hardware store, even all these decades later, he's right there with me.

I just bought a prodigy and loved your video. Just thought I would mention that the high sights are so that when you use the plate adapter for a red dot, the rear sight on the plate will co-witness with the high front sight. This is a nice because it gives you the option of two different aim points based on how you adjust the red dot.

Just bought one today. Went right from the gun store to the shooting range and ran 200 rounds through it. Did encounter three failures to go into battery. Shooting Norma 124gr FMJs. Overall, accuracy was excellent. I was shooting around 7 yards and all shots would have been in the bullseye if I didn’t get sloppy with double taps. Got home and gave it a good cleaning and some lube. Can’t wait to take it back out to the range. I am a happy guy.

Looks like a nice firearm. I bought a Staccato C2 Duo a year ago as I’ve always wanted a 2011 as a fan of Springfield I would’ve bought this over the Staccato from a financial reason only. Looks like Springfield may need to iron out some things though. Love my Staccato C2 Duo so unlikely I’d add this to my collection. It will be interesting to see what direction Springfield takes this line up. If I worked in Marketing I’d always send Hickok45 a firearm. His ability to shoot & discuss a new firearm is outstanding. I bet he is responsible for selling millions of firearms.

@briangreen550

@@dwillia6351 should be good to go for a winter carry but ultimately depends on you & your build. I personally would hold off on the Springfield Prodigy as there as been some issues on other KZbin channels. Plus anytime there is a completely new line up launched it usually takes 6 months to a year to get ironed out. Once you get your Staccato C2 Duo I doubt you’d even want the Springfield Prodigy. My prodigy has had a total respring. To all 4.25 p4odogy owners. Do this. Get the wolf 17lb main spring. Get the atlas 8lb recoil spring and add a guidrod buffer. Talk about lowering recoil even more in a 2011 prodigy Get trigger work to 2.5 to 3 lb trigger and you will have a beast of a pistol. The prodigy are all over sprung from factory. They come with a 23lb main spring and a 12 lb recoil . I traded two of my sigs in p229 and a p938 to get my prod 4.25 . Its now my edc and yes with good holster very easy to edc this pistol. I carry iwb appendix with no issues. This pistol is amazing. I am even going to start shooting compition now my shooting has gotten so much better with my prodigy. It isnt cheap its a 2011 but cheaper then a staccoto and shoots flatter then my buddy staccoto c2. Even he shoot my prodigy first time better and was blwon away with it.this thing is now a ferrari race pistol. Total cost of upgrades 14 bucks

I find full size guns such as the Beretta 92FS easier to shoot. It is always best to pick up a new pistol you like after a yr or two of production. That way the manufacturer has time to iron out the bugs. I was going to buy a Springfield XDS 45 when they came out. Even found a super deal at the local gun store but held back. Sure enough gun had tons of problems. @@lovetopew9054 It is a 1911 DS (double stack) as named and marketed by Springfield for legal reasons. The reason it can't be called a 2011 is because STI now Staccato owns the rights/trademark to the name 2011. If any gun manufature uses the name "2011" they send them a cease and desist order. I would suggest that anyone thinking about buying a Springfield DS 1911 Prodigy take a serious look at a Sig Sauer P229 Legion SAO or a Sig Sauer P226 Legion SAO pistol. I consider either of these pistols to be very similar to what some individuals are calling a 2011 (i.e., double stack 1911 pistol). Both the P229 (31.1 oz with 3.9 in barrel) and P226 (33 oz with 4.4 in barrel) have an alloy frame and a 15 + 1 capacity. The trigger is much better than some of the 1911s which I have owned in the past, and I like many do not believe that a single action only (SAO) pistol needs to have a grip safety to be carried safely in Condition 1 (i.e., “weapon with a loaded magazine inserted, a round in the chamber, the hammer to the rear and the safety on”). One of the most popular military firearms of all time was the Browning Hi-Power which is a single action, semi-automatic pistol designed to be carried in Condition 1 and this pistol was designed without a grip safety for a variety of reasons. I purchased a Sig Sauer P229 Legion SAO about 3 months ago after debating about purchasing a Staccato C2 which is a double stack 1911 with a 3.9 inch barrel and has a magazine capacity of 16 rounds. However, there is a significant difference in price with the Sig Sauer P229 Legion SAO being around $1,300.00 and the Staccato C2 being around $2,500.00.

Got me a prodigy same size was a bit nervous about not liking it and getting one that had the issues they had when they first came out but I love it soon as I emptied a mag for me it’s a comfortable size better than the g19 I had lining sights up are easier for me and just been smoking all I line up at only thing I can say bad is not really bad but the slide release is a bit small kind of flat making it a bit tough to release

Excellent video Hickock. I was fascinated because there are so many KZbin videos out there on this particular gun and the majority of them have complained about failure to feed issues. You however did not seem to experience any?? Now I am in a quandary, buy now or wait and see if issues continue. Thanks for presenting your perspective I truly appreciate your honesty.

Thanks, but ours was just one random sample. The more folks that review the pistol, the more information we'll have on it. Even though the one we borrowed had no problems, if enough other folks out there are having problems, I would not buy one yet personally. Just depends on what sorts of problems people are having.

It's amazing to me that it's taken over 100 years to modernize and double stack a 9mm 1911. Not that there's anything wrong with John Browning's original, but clearly this is the future for the great 1911 design.

I like it because it's in 9mm in my area it's 2 to 5 dollars cheaper than other ammo. So if you want to plink other than 22lr it's the way to go.
