I’m learning so much from this page. Once I can understand what’s being said back to me maybe I can hold a conversation for a change. I’ve been at this for a while now 😅

I really like our videos. The idea to explain things in English and then speak in Spanish is simple and brilliant. Somehow not so popular in other channels. And btw you're pretty!

English is my first language. I'm from Miami, a melting pot of Spanish from Spain to Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean Islands. In my experience, Cuban Spanish moves at Mach speed. The words are spoken so fast, many times I ask them to "reducir la velocidad." Gracias por las lecciones.

Gracias, Maura. I'm a lover of animals" = "I'ma love ro vanimals" ).

You can watch a video I made about it right here. (Points randomly) Para mi, your accent is amazing. Please dont ever lose it. But wow, some of your previous videos where you spoke naturally you were fast.

Nice video, but I have to disagree with you on one point. You say it's a bad idea to listen to Spanish at a slower speed, but actually my Spanish apprehension skills have improved dramatically since I began doing just this several months ago. I watched Spanish-language films on Netflix for a couple of years without really learning any Spanish. The dialogue was always too fast, and listening to incomprehensible dialogue - even if you replay it several times, which I often did - doesn't really help. If you don't understand it, you don't understand it, period. And then I hit on the idea of reducing the speed to 0.75. This doesn't interfere noticeably with one's enjoyment of the film, but it helps enormously with understanding what is being said (it also gives a little more time to read and absorb subtitles). Sorry to disagree with your advice, but I would definitely recommend using this method.
@MauraSpringSpanish
@MauraSpringSpanish Жыл бұрын
You're more than free to disagree! Especially when you do it so gracefully. But! I don't think we do because I agree that if you're listening to natural speed you should pair that up with the complexity of what you're listening to. You're absolutely right in that if you don't get anything, it doesn't serve you at all. Thanks for sharing! =)=)=)

Is this what's called "encadenamiento"? Where something like Tengo una idea becomes "ten guna dia"? Lol... that's why after 20 years of trying to learn this I can only ever understand the 1 and last words of most spoken sentences.

Sorry, but these are not contractions but liaisons or enlaces in Spanish. A contraction is where you replace letters (usually vowels) in a word with an apostrophe (') like do not becomes don't. As far as I know in Spanish they don't exist.

I think "inhaling" the S is a technique worthy of its own lesson. It's not something that's done in English. Are you actually taking a breath before the next word? Why take a breath after only two words?
