Mat with the redemption in 2020. Something was off in this event.

The biggest factor in people's performance in this event was there lane assignment. Certain lanes were very fast and others were very slow. Definitely not fair.

It *did* seem like something was up with the lanes or the sleds, didn't it? Could be a coincidence, tho. Two other coincidental things: #1 the points distrib for 40 person events was "worse" than the 50 person or 20 person events. i.e., if you finished middle-of-the-pack/25th in a 50 person event, you were 48 pts behind the #1 finisher; if you finished 20th in a 40 person event, you were 57 pts behind the #1 finisher; if you finished 10th in a 20 person event, you were 45 points behind the #1 finisher. So you "lost" between 9 and 15 points for finishing in approx the same, relative, position in a 40 person event. btw, a 30 person event was also a "bad" event for points distrib; 15th place was 54 points less than 1st place. #2 this was a "fast", sub two-minute event...a 3-4 sec diff in time moved you up/down ~10 places. Same with Event 6 (Sprint); a one-second diff cost you a lot of points.

@@jdsmith99 Interesting about the points. Re the sled push...if you look at all 4 heats...2 men and 2 women...and you look at how each lane did...it's pretty much mathematically impossible that it was coincidence. For example, lane 2 had heat finishes of 1 (McLeod), Sager (6), Fotsch (2), Helgadottir (8). Lane 8 had finishes of 37 (Koski), 35 (Vellner), 39 (Beamer), Wells (23). It's big a disparity. Noah's lane 7 was fast...3 (Moorad), 2 Ohlsen, 20 Hellman, Barnhart (1). Lane 10 was only the 13 fastest out of 20 even though it had both Mat Fraser and Tia Toomey in it. These artificial turf fields have sections which are worn down...or matted down...so the resistance is not even across the field. That's my theory anyway.

@@ptf55 I love math. You're right; that does seem like more than coincidence (the one thing that runs counter: most of the folks who finished fast in the sled - McLeod, Helgadottir, Ohlsen, Moorad, Sager - also finished well in Sprint; the folks who finished slow in sled also finished slow in Sprint. It's not a perfect fit, though. A bunch of people that ran the sled did NOT run the Sprint, and some of the top finishers in Sprint didn't finish great in sled, so hard to tell if it's a correlation or coincidence...). And if it wasn't the lane, maybe something was diff about those two sleds?

Is it just me but i saw athletes wearing cleats, i think they took the initiative to have an advantage on this event over others that wore shoes with less traction. Just my observation
