As much as this was painful, it's Ipswich, Bournemouth, Man united at home that have cost us. Things can go wrong at these places against sides going for the same things you are. But the 6 points dropped there are more impactful than the 3 here. Last season spurs battered us but we got top 4 because we won the games we 'should' win. That feels like it's dropped slightly.

I think we really miss Tielemens in that role. Rogers is brilliant but takes a lot of risks, loses the ball a lot and too transition based

Not a Villa fan but I can tell you all with absolute certainty that Emery will prioritize UCL above all else. He's a European cup manager, he's won Europa 4 times. If you get to the R-16, he will put all his eggs in the UCL basket and bin off all other competitions so just be prepared to drop off 2nd half of the season or play in 2nd gear in the league going forward

100% right about the attacking play. Not sure where our goals are coming from in open play bar a Duran worldie. With Watty and Bailey not on form, we don't seem to have enough variety pace/trickery as Rambo and Rog quite similar. And nothing on the bench in those positions as Philogene doesn't seem quite ready

With Liverpool away next it's the first time I'm seriously concerned since Emery arrived. The season is in danger of unravelling, top 4 or 5 and Champions League qualification is key for Villa to stay up there as a team challenging for those spots every season imo

Another observation maybe we’re playing a bit deeper compared to last season, not catching the opposition offside anywhere near as often like last season.

I think we're starting to see the loss of Diaby is having an effect on game plan, particularly with Bailey and Jaden both being out of form. Diaby had impact, even if it was simply his directness and pace on the opposition defence positioning. We're struggling with multiple players out of form across the team at the moment - possibly Palace was an opportunity to play some into form. But that's with hindsight. I dare say across the whole team it's only Tielemans who is in-form currently. Time for Kamara to start for me... and possibly Mings.

I think it's an overreation to say we miss Diaby and haven't replaced him considering how well we started and played in the CL. hopefully in hindsight we'll look back and this is the worst blip we have. Players will get back in form and Emery will change up the tactics. Maybe we've been found out a little too

Yeah it's annoyed me how people aren't allowed to criticise a terrible performance. I don't understand it at all. We'll never get to the elite level that we want to get to, if we don't demand more. Of course we all know that generally we've been good, but our form is worrying lately and it would be disingenuous not to say so. It doesn't mean you're moaning or being over critical

With Bailey struggling and cash being hot and cold generally, we have no threat on the right hand side. I will admit my expectations are heightened because of the standards they've set, but yesterday was old villa that I thought was a thing of the past. On the whole though we are bound to have days like this

I think we look at cups upside down. Trophies aren't spread out evenly, the same clubs win them most seasons. Best way to win a cup is become one of the best teams. We aren't at the same level as Manc/Liv/Ars yet.

I don't think Spurs deserved to win or we deserved to lose in that manner - I'm more annoyed by not winning the Bournemouth game to be honest. I will dig some players out though - I thought Watkins was poor. Consistently gave the ball away and had a very presentable chance at 0-1. I do think the wide areas are a big problem - Bailey looks like he's forgotten how to play football, the drop off is incredible. And I don't think Philogene gets a pass, to be honest. He's back at the club now to contribute and he's delivered nothing. Too many times he refuses to even take players on - not good enough. I think Cash going off has a major impact - I don't want to see Konsa at RB anymore. At this point we should just go with Kosta there and play Konsa with Torres. I agree with getting Kamara back in the team as well. Midfield of Kamara, Onana, McGinn, Tielemans, then Rogers & Watkins ahead. Too many out of form and not delivering I'm afraid - Bailey, Ramsey, Philogene the main culprits. I think Brugge is a big game now - bigger than it was before tbh. I'd have been fine with us getting a point there - but we need a win now - especially as I fully expect to lose at Liverpool on Saturday (if Sunday's performance is anything to go by).

A quick look at last season whenever we rested players we looked worse every time they came back in & when we played more they looked sharper & we got better results/performances. I know we have to rotate our playing squad,but wouldn't it be better if we did it in smaller numbers than whole sale changes like changing the entire team & having 11 players that aren't used to playing together? Seems logical to me...... up the mighty Villa!!! 😊

You've got to be balanced Richarlison got one cross right! Digne didn't do a lot today and switched of for the 1st goal. There is no best 11 do you not listen to Emery! I agree Diaby is the biggest miss Rogers is no Diaby and Bailey has no pressure for position

Said it last season, but the way we set up against Spurs is wrong. I love emery, and I'm not digging him out, but we give Spurs way too much respect... we stand off them too much and give them far too much respect.

We have without doubt missed Diaby. We don't have anyone in the sqaud to keep Bailey on his toes. His form has been patchy at best and Philogene isn't the answer at the moment. I know Diaby wasn't a direct replacement but his goals and assists were valuable in terms of his ability to be a game changer when called upon.

Great pod guys. One thing I disagree with Gregg on is in regard to the 2nd half being all Spurs after they equalised. They scored on the 49min and had a 3-4 minute period after where they really put pressure on us but we dealt with it. I think from then on until their 2nd goal we had the better chances and the general play was even. McGinn chance, Carlos chance were big chances. Rogers was really getting into the game and causing Spurs big problems on transition. I think the capitulation started after Rogers went off and they scored their 2nd. But from the equaliser until Rogers went off Villa were still very much in the game

We need to tighten up that defence. Konsa to RB, bring mings in Youri to number 10 and bring Kamara in. That will make us a lot stronger at the back which is what we need to do first and foremost because we leaking far too many.

Thoughts at the close of the Summer Window were that we never replaced Diaby who had 19 goal involvements last season plus the right hand side looked like it needed strengthening and we didn’t do that so I had reservations. Don’t see what McGinn offers playing him out there, surely that needs to stop…it’s a square peg in round hole situation ! I found the return of Philogene a bit odd to be honest , hope I’m proved wrong but not really seen anything that suggests he cuts it at the top table. We’ve managed to pick up points but we haven’t looked like the slick machine from last season.

If you can defend against Villa, you're going to win because you're guaranteed at least 1 goal. Torres and Konsa are NOT good defenders. Cash is very average too. Absolutely criminal that a right back and a centre back weren't signed.
