FUN FACT: I recently met Tom Kenny (voice of Sponge Bob and Spyro in the 2nd game). He said that he is always surprised when people bring up the fact that he was the voice of Spyro. He often forgets that he did it as it was a small job that only took a day or so to record everything. He also said that it must not have paid well for him not to remember doing it. Really funny guy to talk to in person.

Crash and Spyro really have a lot in common. -An Acclaimed trilogy of games on the Playstation 1. -A lousy fourth game (Wrath of Cortex, Enter the Dragonfly) -A much better but not great fifth game (Twinsanity, Hero's Tail) -Devolved into Zombie status afterward, and twisted and mutated so much with gimmicks that it's no longer recognizable (Sierra Crash, Legend of Spyro?). -Mercifully Faded into dust and irrelevancy. Crash died and Spyro was pretty much absorbed into Skylanders. A shame, really.

EdmacZ I thought Twinsanity was actually a great Crash game. A Hero's Tail was awfully below generic though. I really don't like it at all. Even though Enter The Dragonfly was completely rushed, I liked it more than A Hero's Tail.

ZD Cosner Enter the Dragonfly was awful, but it was still a Spyro game at heart. Hero's Tail is a good game in its own right but just doesn't feel much like the previous games.

***** Imho the best anty piracy measure is to make a great game. I know from my own experience- I do buy good games, I do buy games from the devs I know will make a great game. But shit like Call of Duty I just check if it's still as shitty as previous instalment. it always is... so I delete it quickly to not waste any time. To this day I own all of my original Playstation and all of my Playstation 2 games. The only crap game on the PS2 I own is FF X-2.

Nowadays anti-piracy methods are actually making gaming harder with always-on and other billshit that makes a normal player's life harder. 1000% agree. As well as naughty dog as someone else said. In the ps2 generation, Insomniac pioneered the technique of using instantiation for R&C, and Naughty Dog pioneered pre baked occlusion culling for J&D, they shared the ground breaking techniques with eachother to make some of my fave games of all time

I actually managed to get a questionnaire to IG last year for Spyro's 15th. Did you know? The spherical levels in Ratchet & Clank 2 were originally developed for Spyro the Dragon!

Ratchet & Clank are insomniac's true child. I mean that in the sense that from Spyro 1-3 Insomniac had full creative license, after 3 I think and when Spyro became overly OP and very very shity, this was due to games popularity. I think Sony completely took it over. Ratchet & and Clank is the game insomniac wanted it to be and unfortunately I never played it

helikos1 This is incorrect lol. Spyro and Crash Bandicoot were both aquired by Vivendi Universal. Vivendi's notorious for ruining game franchises by oversaturating the market with them. Vivendi effectively "killed" off the Guitar Hero franchise when they owned Activision, and were the ones that originally pushed Activision to yearly spam Call of Duty games after Modern Warfare 2 until Activision bought themselves from VU.

Violette Sparks Close but not yet! Universal had always retained the publishing rights to Spyro and Crash from the beginning as that's how third-party publishing deals work, much like how Sony Pictures owns the film rights to Spider-Man. Moving to a different publisher meant that Insomniac and Naughty Dog were no longer able to make the games unless they partnered with Universal/Vivendi again. The only alternative was the buy the rights, but back in the day this would have been ludicrously expensive. Spyro is still valuable to Activision but Crash hasn't seen any action in years and is effectively dead.

I have played the first 3 and after seeing the new ones they look like garbage to me, as far as R&C I have 1,2,3, and the PSP remake of Size Matters (not too great) and I enjoy them all after seeing the new installments added more detail to Ratchet I lost interest simply bc as someone once told me "It's the gameplay that matters, no matter how pretty it looks a polished piece of shit is still a piece of shit."

Imagine if Spyro had a game under the same general idea as Sonic Generations, where the classic and modern version of the character go on an adventure together. 3 Spyros for the price of one and each could be more fitted to their iconic style of gameplay. Classic Spyro gets 3D Platforming stages where you collect items, Legend Spyro gets 3D Beat 'Em Up stages, and Skylanders Spyro gets dungeon crawling stages, each of them getting a huge boss battle between villians of the three series and dialogue that will tell a great story and poke lots of fun at the flaws for each series (Like Classic Spyro being way more brash, Legend Spyro for being the most hesitant, and Skylanders Spyro for his looks). It'll never happen, but that would be an interesting game.

Spyro... Jack and Dexter... Crash Bandicoot... Ratchet and Clank... Sly cooper... These guys literally set the bar and sold millions of copies. They are the games and characters of my childhood... from Sony, Playstation anyways. WHY CAN'T THEY COME OUT FOR THE PS4!! I want to see Spyro, Crash and Jak and Dexter the most right now... Since they haven't been seen since PS2 era ended. I know R&C got a bunch of PS3 stuff, they got really complicated... They were fun but waaaay to complex with the weapon system, for no reason really. Sure it was cool but unnecessary imo. Sly Cooper got a new 4th game which I loved! good storyline, Dialogue and Characters! Well done game! I totally get your cravings and i too want the same but unfortunately Crash Bandicoot and Spyro weren't owned by Sony but by Universal Vivendi so the only way for those games to come out for the ps4 is if Sony bought the rights to Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, the only way if you want those games to be good anyways. The games from Universal Vivendi are mostly shit, just look at the game "Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly" a game not created by Sony's video game company's.

I have to wonder what exactly triggers the anti-piracy code… all I know is, if I ever designed a big-name game, I'd love to program all kinds of crap to trigger when the game was cracked: • Load a random NPC character model in place of the player's, causing distortion during player-exclusive animations. • Cause dialog to display/play back in gibberish, or possibly use sentence-mixing to say different things. • Induce "drunk mode" on the characters, causing screen-warping effects and hampering their movement. • "Spazz" the controls, so that any inputs are scrambled (One of my PlayStation 2 controllers does that already). • Inverse any changes to numerical statistics to send their values into the negatives. • Bug the physics engine to the point of any collision being unpredictable (We've seen plenty of examples of this). • "Tilt the cartridge", distorting every moving model in the game. • Corrupt the video and/or audio output to the point of nothing being interpretable. • Newly-loaded areas lack textures or proper collision detection. (Think _Minecraft_'s chunk errors). • Loading times in general would be artificially extended, and false slowdown/freezing would occur. • Best of all, any attempts to save the game will instead crash it (perhaps even fake a hardware crash). Of course, with all of these wonderful effects being pirate-copy-exclusive otherwise, each one could be individually triggered by an in-game cheat code as well.

( #OnlyPlaysTheMarioRPGs ) • Every shop/inn would close pseudo-randomly, and those that are open reserve the right to refuse service to you (under the assumption that you're "using counterfeit currency"). • Negative status effects do not wear off over time, meaning that eventually, somebody on your party will be killed by such an alignment. Furthermore, items that intend to cancel or reduce the potency of these effects instead amplify them. • Remove the ability to fish and/or garden… which may not sound like much, but those are both required in order to obtain ingredients for a revival item that can otherwise only be purchased, which is impossible due to the shop thing above. So your dead teammates will be staying dead. Remember that hashtag about only playing the Mario RPGs? Yeah, if I ever made an RPG and was allowed to make it exactly how I'd want it to be, I bet no traditional RPG fans would even give it a second thought. :-/

Spyro, Crash, Croc, Gex, and Driver 1&2 were the first PS1 games I played when I was a kid. I’ll never forget when that system came out. I remember we went to Pizza Hut and got a demo disc with five games on it and Crash Team Racing was one of them along with Tony Hawk and a few others I can’t remember. I’m glad to have grown up through the 90s they were great times that can never be experienced again.

I absolutely loved the Spyro games when I was in my early teens. What's most impressive about them though is that they still hold up to this day. A lot of PSone era games have aged terribly (like Ape Escape), but the Spryo games are still solid platformers. It's a shame Insomniac isn't involved with the franchise anymore.

Sometimes I wish I could go to a Spyro video without people despising anything past Spyro 3 and making sure everyone knows that they do. I have never really seen a solid analysis on the games themselves, as most of the reasons of dislike consist of "Spyro is different in LoS" or "His design is ugly in Skylanders". I honestly think it has to do with the fact that people just haven't played anything past the original 3, so they haven't had time to actually let them sink in and can only make arguments based off of the surface of each game. At least A Hero's Tail was extremely close to the original Spyro games, yet that's barely ever brought up. I won't try to pretend Enter the Dragonfly was good, considering the game was so glitchy and unfinished, but The Legend of Spyro was still a great series on its own despite being "different". It did a good job of developing Spyro more as a character and, although it had its cliche moments, it did a great job of conveying something a bit more in-depth. Even then, the original series is hardly innocent of portraying something cliche, such as Spyro's original 90's-cut-out of a character. I've played the Spyro games since I was younger and I, too, grew up with the original trilogy, but I just don't see where all the unrelenting hate comes from. I haven't played Skylanders myself, so I can't exactly defend it based on my own experience and could, therefore, be wrong, but I have seen many other testaments from other classic Spyro fans that originally hated the idea of Skylanders but, after actually playing it, they really loved it. Not to mention I've seen some kids get really excited about the game's many characters and generally have a blast playing the game and it reminds me a lot of the excitement and love I had when playing the original Spyro. Don't get me wrong, if people just don't prefer the games past the third one, that's perfectly fine; everyone has their cup of tea. I admit, I personally miss the platforming style of the original series, but I can still at least appreciate the games that follow. There's always a difference between something that you "like/dislike" vs something that's "good/bad", though. I'm only referring to the arguments that are baseless and by people that either didn't play any of the other games, or they played a minimal amount of each while refusing to keep an open mind and didn't even attempt to be a bit more objective about judging what they play.

I see LOS as the right way to do a reboot. I really loved it and I had never played the original games. I tried it but it really wasn't my thing with all the hip stuff and weird worlds that didn't make sense. I think many are upset LOS didn't respect the originals and they were right. It tried to craft it's own identity and I feel like it succeeded in that based on it's fanbase. I also see far more fanart and fanfiction of LOS. Meaning it did make a stronger lasting impression. It's one thing to say you like a game but quite another to put effort in demonstrating just how much you love it.

Insomniac gave up the series after the third one to move on to other projects, which was actually a good idea on their part. It's one of those games that, yeah we want more of it, but honestly there isn't much to be done with it that could make any other game good. Just play the first three over.

Tselel I liked Enter the Dragonfly, and A Hero's Tail was honestly the closest the series ever came to re-creating the same game feel as the original 3. If they're not going to make any more, at least release the first 3 as HD remakes or something.

The voice for Spyro in the second game was also the voice for the blue characters in the level Hurricos (not gear grinders, those were the enemy names in the level Hurricos.) Spyro 2 was also known as Spyro X Sparx, Tondemo Tours in Japan. While talking about Japan, Spyro 3 was banned from the country for the references made to Chinese culture, and wasn't even added to PSN years later when the game released to PSN in North America and Europe.

I honestly get sad when I think of Spyro... all because when I was little, I spent about a year (I was little, don't judge) collecting everything. I had about 100%, and I went to play Crash about a week later... and accidentally saved over my Spyro save file. Then, I got it about a year ago on the Playstation 3, along with all sequels, and the same thing happened about half way through my game. I saved over it with Crash Bandicoot. Ugh.

Spyro is one of my favorite childhood games of all time, a close second behind Crash Bandicoot. But what really set it apart in my opinion was the music. Like Caddicarus mentioned, Stewart Copeland played each level extensively to get the feel of each level and his efforts and hard work produced the most unique and iconic soundtrack of the 5th generation! For the love of God, please release an entire PlayStation Spyro the Dragon OST collection! I would listen to it everyday!!! :D
