I am gonna wait it out until the bugs have been patched and maybe until I next upgrade my GPU, so if I want to play it I'll just play my PS4 version, not enough of an incentive to buy it on PC unless it's bug free and runs at higher resolution, 120fps and Ultra. Right now my PC could probably handle 1440p Ultra at maybe 80fps, I've got a 1070 and it's starting to show it's age on a lot of games, I was expecting much higher fps on Spyro, considering Crash ran at over 120fps at 4k

@@hypsin0 Yeah a 1070 is powerful, but still showing it's age and PC often gets the short end of the stick and have awful optimization in comparison. And in most cases games are shown off at High because it's what they intend players to play at, but if that's the case I don't want to rebuy a game to play it looking almost the same, running at 3x the fps but being super buggy, especially for full price

Screenspace reflections look similar at the highest settings because it likely only changes the resolution of the reflection. Basically the engine screenshots the frame, flips it upside down, and smushes it onto the surfaces you want it on. Usually the highest setting is 1:1, do full res, and the next one down is half res. One may also be quarter res, but I don't think I've seen that.

This runs pretty well on my laptop from 2010. At the moment it has an overheating problem while playing demanding games because Windows took the ability to control the power management settings. That causes serious performance drops every few seconds. But UE4 is so customisable that I can work around the power management issue. At 60 fps, lowest settings and 480p it runs very smooth, but the micro stutter is still a problem. For a very short moment the framerate keeps going down to 5 fps every 5 - 10 seconds. But tinkering with the ini settings helped me out. I've locked the frame rate at 25, (pretty much the performance of most N64 games, everything above causes micro stutters) set the resolution to 720p and reduced the resolution quality to 50% which is pretty similar to the 720 x 480p resolution but in true widescreen, so there is no squishing/stretching effect during cutscenes. Now I can set everything to higher quality. TAA high (less smear), SSR ultra, shadows high, AO low, foliage high and render distance medium. Looks decent and runs at a playable performance. My poor laptop is still screaming in agony, but never reaches the point of overheating. Everything here works with Destroy all Humans as well.

The high fps bug starts at any framerate above 30fps... The most common things is that Spyro becomes heavier so his jump isn't as high and glide is shorter making platforming more difficult. Also his Flight and Supercharge controls are floatier. Compare speedway footage on PC to that of the consoles. Spyro isn't as responsive and doesn't turn as quickly.

Bloom requires some kind of blur (gaussian or box usually). Higher blooms needs wider blur and wider blur needs more data reads on the shader level. Since it's a very costly operation (relatively), it can cause an fps drop. That's probably one of the reasons it's lower on lower settings.

@@2kliksphilip without looking at their source code for bloom implementation we can only guess, I suspect it was this way bacause of full amd build and the result would be different on similar spec intel+nvidia pc build. The logic here is that because of the ps4 version of the game (ps4, basically, uses amd parts) they optimized the algorithm for amd hardware and could spread the computational load on several threads/cores or "computational units" on the gpu. Or they may be sacrificing something player is not gonna see when the bloom effect is maxed out and this makes the fps boost.

@Valanway5 жыл бұрын
I doubt they'd ever go near the non-Insomniac Spyro games. Hero's Tale and parts of the Reboot were only passingly good, but were a bit too far cast from the originals. However, a new Spyro game is extremely likely, give how well Reignited (and N-Sane, but that was not as good, and was by Vicarious) performed on PS4, and already even Switch and PC. Hopefully they get a chance to work on the games without all the drawbacks Reignited had though. Plenty of not-as-fun bugs and several small-big framerate issues were present, and the fact that the third game easily had the least amount of time put into it (which, was the same with N-Sane) and the worst stability problems and bugs out of the three is the only real damper to the experience, but a new, single game would most likely fix all of that, especially since they have a very solid framework and assets to reuse.
@Bizargh5 жыл бұрын
I was very keenly awaiting the day Spyro Reignited would get a PC port, having never managing to get hands-on with the PlayStation titles (I certainly was an adoring spectator for them back in the day) and really wanting me a 60+fps (maybe config tweaked and/or nicely modded) option to play this absolutely beautiful to behold reconstruction. And besides the small number of widely-encountered bugs being gathered by users (Toys for Bob and/or Iron Galaxy, please fix), it's truly excellent to see it arrive on Steam in grand condition, and with no "anti-tamper" software bolted on to boot! (Activision, please GOG). Plus, this was actually quite the handy graphics settings guide. It's definitely nice to know which extras each setting might be doing.

Spyro was really popular back when it came out (amazing thing is that Spyro 1 was Insomniac's 2ND game made). Their first game Disruptor was basically a DOOM clone and all the reviewers at the time stated it was very good for what it was but apparently didn't sell too well. Activision COULD have ended their dealings with Insomniac Games but decided to give them a chance for their second game. All 3 PS1 Spyro games were EACH made in a years time or less.

TAA does a ton of work on transparent aspects of game engines. It's interesting that they allow it to be disabled through the game's options. I guess that's because they only let TAA determine certain reflections to render instead of entire aspects of the game world. Metro Exodus is a game that requires TAA to be enabled, and I did a ton of testing with its engine by disabling it with cfg file changes, hex editing the launch exe file, and using a trainer that allowed use of the in-game dev console to change values of render commands. When you disable TAA in Metro, entire aspects of the game disappear because TAA controls almost every transparent/sprite used in the game. Windows, hair, particles, glass, and any other model that has a reflective/transparent quality to them completely disappear when TAA gets disabled, the same way the reflections disappear in Spyro. It's a shame that TAA is so prevalent in certain game engines now, because the blurriness it creates compared to other AA techniques really distracts my eyes and prevents me from focusing on what I want to look at. I'm sure it's really efficient for developers though. It probably allows for the render of complex parts of their games offloaded into the AA system instead of just rendering straight to the scene.

I like how they made both crash and spyro remakes, too bad that other instances of this are not even trying to be faithful in anyway at all like what Activision/Blizzard is doing to Warcraft III and in this case its even worse since we are not talking about a ps1 game but early 2000s stylized RTS with instanely high detail for an rts from 2001, most rts games even up to 2008 had terribly blurry textures and no details meant for upclose scenes like Battle for middle earth 1 and 2 from EA. and Warcraft iii has it, mainly because they wanted it to be almost a third person/low isometric camera rpg game in 1999. Only game that i would compare it graphicly to in terms of some improvement would something like Heroes of of might and magic V from 2005 which is quite noticeably inspired by Warcraft 3 visually(developers were fans of both heroes of might and magic III and Warcraft III and even used wc3 assets in test builds during early development) Blizzard could easily make a faithful remaster/remake like they did with Stacraft 1, they even made much more faithful model remakes on small scale when they release wc3 assets for Starcraft 2 - there was a pack of Wc3HD models remade following original texture details and animations down to a T + artworks, but now with reforged they threw it all out of the window and even mocked original devs and the art made for Warcraft 3 so many years ago at blizzcon 2018......its really dissapointing.....

If the improvement was very small it might just be randomness based on some other effect. Otherwise it might be some kind of pipeline issue where removing blur creates an inefficiency in the render target order or something.. but that would only explain it if it were a binary effect of bloom on vs off. I played the later PS2 The Legend of Spyro... I remember having hard time playing the game as a child. I wouldn't want my younger siblings to play this remake of the original. There's no "game play" to it.

5:38 You meant to say "SSR" right? Not "AA". Anti-aliasing has nothing to do with reflections.
@Schytheron5 жыл бұрын
@@2kliksphilip Huh... that's strange because it doesn't really make any logical sense. AA should not be connected to reflections in any way. Probably an oversight by the devs.

4:28 !!!!! What is graphic setting ?
@s2korpionic5 жыл бұрын
I actually like the low graphics. It's so easy on the eyes, separate details are so easy to spot. *Nope, I'd have to disagree with you there on shadows. It's much simpler on the eyes for me with the low shadows.

I play it on my laptop with an MX150 at Ultra settings and get about 27 to 32 fps and I'm more than fine with how it looks 😇
