I'm Gary. I've seen the car in person a few times. Everything on it looks first class. The 2 air cooled VW engines run very good togather. The paint job is as good as any Gasser in the past. I hope the best for the owner and his family.

That's because there were 2 engines.
@eyesodd Жыл бұрын
They weren't. The biggest stock vw aircooled engine was the 2ltr found in later campers. But the beautiful simplicity of them means you can enlarge the bore holes on the crankcase and slip in larger barrels and pistons, thus increasing CC upto around the 2500cc mark. Stroker cranks are available too, they are a highly tuneable motor, great fun.

Those 2 engines together work out to about 4.6 Liters, so it's very fitting that he has a Ford transmission and rearend in it because that's the same size engine as a Ford Crown Victoria or Ford Mustang...yet air cooled and probably weighs less than 1/2 as much!!! @@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney I’m wondering about the rear engine crank? It can’t be original. All the front engine power, is going through it.
@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney Жыл бұрын
@@billpetersen298 not necessarily, is it? Could be like a chain drive gearbox situation, couldn't it? But anyway, I'm sure good forged VW crankshafts are available, and you certainly have one made if not. "THAT'S SAA-WEEEET!" I had a 72 Chevy Vega GT station wagon that resembled this. And I had it painted almost that exact color! How bizarre! It didn't have a straight axle, but I had it very high up front, fat slicks stickin' out the back. But mine, I put in a 66 Corvette 327 with quite a bit of goodies. Large lumpy cam, a tunnel ram, a big fat Holley double pumper. It had a narrowed 12 bolt rear axle, a 6 point cage, a Borg Warner 4 speed, Hurst Super Shifter, Herbert & Meek headers, and V8 motor mounts with Morroso solid steel mounts on them. Put in a hydraulic clutch system. Thick ass Scatter Sheild, 38 inch long rear axle traction bars that bolted right under the driver's seat to one heavy duty suffrage That made pulling the front tires off the ground really easy to make them wrinkle wall slicks bite even better! It started out the factory dark metallic silver with the black GT stripe. A purdy good friend of mine built it, got tired of it, and sold it to me without the engine. He wanted to keep his 69 302 that he had built that was in it. He was going to put it back into his sweet 1969 RS Z/28 that was tucked away in his garage. HEY, if you're out there, my friend, you know who you are! Thanks, Ed. Fun times in the 70's!
