I personally think the best of three format brought out some really excellent squash from everyone. I was at the edge of my seat through everything I watched, and I just watch the highlights! The best of 5 sometimes gets boring as players tend to slack off knowing they have opportunities to recover. This format is unforgiving. Look at what happened to Gawad. Ghosal BTW, is doing great. It might not be a stretch to say that he is likely the fittest sportsperson from India right now. Ghosal has been fantastic to watch during this tournament. The post match interview with Shorbagy is not on this highlights reel, but he was basically having a go at the crowd for 'booing' him, and showing 'disrespect' to players. I was there, and the only time the crowd voiced any dissent was when he was engaging in some blatant timewasting and gamesmanship during a critical point in the last game (Ghosal was also appealing to the referee about it at the time). As one of the crowd shouted back at him during his interview 'we weren't booing you, we were booing the shenanigans'. I love watching Shorbagy even if he isnt the most likeable player, but I found his comments last night to be misjudged. They both got a standing ovation at the end of the match FFS.

Seems absurdly draconian not to give a player an injury timeout for cramp. Not the referee's fault, he has to follow the rules, but I'd suggest the rules need changing. We've all been denied seeing a potentially great third game here...
@joshwhite33394 жыл бұрын
Their reasoning is that cramps are a result of "a lack of conditioning", so it'd be unfair to your opponent who has put in the work to tire you out to the point your muscles are cramping, to give you a break and rest up. The problem with this is that muscle cramps are kind of a weird, poorly understood phenomenon to an extent. It's hard to pin down exactly what causes them, things like electrolyte imbalances are thought to be a cause, but there are plenty of examples of people getting cramps for no discernible reason. Seems unfair to just assume that the cramp is occurring due to a lack of conditioning, when it certainly seems like there could be different underlying causes

When your opponent hits something to the center of the court so you don't have to leave the T do you have to clear the T without delay after hitting your winner? 2. If this is Marwan's signature shot does that mean Marwan dominates the game so much so that he is often hitting the ball from the T for winners?

I don't whether you spotted it too, but Fares briefly clutched his thigh after a lunge in the front right corner, a point or two before going down on the floor. He should have 'done an Elshorbagy' then and asked for an injury time out. A fit and properly conditioned Dessouky might well have taken that final game. Tough call for the ref too.

Elias was complaining about Momen taking such wide stances. One foot practically on the T and the other in the corner basically blocking Elias from getting to the ball. Sure many top players like The General and Beast have done this when they needed to squeeze a few unfair points but it does not make it right. Unfortunately the judge and commentators don't see the obvious that Elias was pointing out.
@TheHilarious914 жыл бұрын
Nevertheless his shots were too loose and the opponent earn the right to take space
@CheapHomeTech4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHilarious91 It's a grAy point. When a player plants his feet far apart and doesn't clear out immediately so his opponent would have to damage him it's not right. Some players never do that crap and always keep their feet together. Others, many world number ones, keep their feet together unless the points are crucial and then they start spreading them taking up space for far too long daring their opponent to hit them. Like Momen did. Elias was perturbed because he did not want to get involved in that type of crap. Unfortunately most people don't even recognize this style of trickery.
@gedofgont10064 жыл бұрын
@@CheapHomeTech It's not trickery or gamesmanship, on Momen's part! He's perfectly entitled to play his shots in any way he likes. He plays many shots low down, from a wide base; that's his style. It's up to the opponent to work out his own way of countering. Elias didn't like it because he was being outplayed, that's all. The non-Egyptians need to get wise and toughen up, like Coll has done and Makin is starting to do.
@CheapHomeTech4 жыл бұрын
@@gedofgont1006 The toughen up solution here is to come to physical blows. Plow through your opponent. Hit him with the ball. Hit him with the follow through of the racket. Perhaps all three. Normally Momen is just like Elias. That is damn fast and clean. Momen is obviously having a hard time. Very rare for him. It looks like he resorted to this tactic and then quickly quit doing it. Coll and Makin are certainly tough. I think there are many very tough players though. Court awareness that Gawad and Farag show give you more bang for your buck though.

Why didn't Dessouky ask for three minute medical?
@tan116A4 жыл бұрын
It is shameful. The referee should NEVER debate a player about his own body, or tell him what injury he has. Doesn't matter if it's a cramp or not. If a player says he needs medical attention, you gotta give him that. And yes, it could have been a cramp, I am not denying that. Dessouky could be lying. But if the refs are given so much liberty, a time will come when a player has a legit injury and the referee's annoying argument can prove to be costly. Better to allow the players a benefit of doubt than to tell them what their own body is feeling. I don't need to add that such arguments between a match makes the ref look very petty and it is just not a good experience for any viewer, in the audience or on KZbin.
