I've always loved the strength that powerlifters possess, especially seeing how their strength exceeds their muscle mass by a lot. But when it comes to technique and athleticism, I binge watch the fuck out of weightlifters. (Clarence and Klokov videos to be more specific) I can definitely relate to you when you say you are not a powerlifter, olympic lifter or a crossfitter, you're just a guy who is training. There's so much to learn from all disciplines that it would be crazy to restrict yourself to one way of training. I constantly find myself tuning my program and technique by studying both Olympic lifting and powerlifting. (No offense to crossfitters but I don't really find there way of training appealing) You gotta always find whats best for you and just go with that.

And I've tried to squat without my heels being elevated but it's close to impossible, my back struggles to keep the weight up & I get that annoying groin pain from having a squat-wide-stance that stretches my abductors to the max. Would you be able to shed some light on this? I've tried to do mobility work for my ankles but I just can't seem to squat with flat heels; the weight distribution is kinda off. so true. the ATG squat is such a beautiful movement. I wish when I began the guy in the camera would have told me "you may squat low, high or mid and maybe your knees might go forward than others. Anatomies are going to be different. Different squat variations can target either the hamstring or quads more. There is more than one way of doing a squat"... Ahhhh man you reminded me when I was young watching nba ankle breakers vol 1 and 2. Watching it for hours trying to mimic their moves. Hey Ivan loved the video as usual , a thought popped into my head that there’s a lot of different powerlifting federations snd it seems to me that some have stricter rules than others when it comes to squat depth. I’ve seen multiple powelifters get well below 90 degreees in the squat ie russel orhii, snd there are many poweelfiters in which the arch Benifits Them in no way snd there elbows still drop below 90 on bench. It’s when u get into the subdivisions of powerlifting where they are calling 3 white lights on a squat that was above parrallel snd they can barley walk to the rack because of the knees wraps. But love your take and your overall ideology around lifting.

@@IvanDjuric300 if you could be Klokov or Lu Wiaojun for one day of lifting who would you be?
@IvanDjuric3002 жыл бұрын
I think Klokov man. It’s a hard pick tho. Klokov is just so strong. Ohp, squat, oly lifts. Everything man. Pure beast.

I found it difficult to progress when squatting atg. I have great mobility and can go all the way down in flats, but my progress seemed to stalemate as compared to breaking parallel
@IvanDjuric3002 жыл бұрын
Well parallel is easier. Only makes sense that you will progress quicker with them.

hi Ivan, whats your opinion about deadlift with snatch grip?
@IvanDjuric3002 жыл бұрын
I like it. Great variation
@andrewdestiny825212 күн бұрын
i mean sleeves dont really add much up unless you buy like 2-3 smaller size, its just keeps your knee warm and compressed which helps you a bit to not get injured, i can get it about the belt it can add pretty a lot and also wraps, but average sleeves gives you like 5 mb 10 kg at highest
@IvanDjuric30011 күн бұрын
Yeh I know. I usually wear pants so my legs are warm.

When did you start lifting, and what did you start with in squat bench and deadlift?
@IvanDjuric3002 жыл бұрын
For a long time I didn’t go heavy. So I don’t know. I was afraid of Injury.

As a Powerlifting fan I must say that the high squats (it is very impressive that someone can do some movement with over 1000lbs on his back but it is not squat) only happens in some gear federations. And the bench press with 0 ROM only happens in low weight classes that most people do not care. You won't find shit like this in 90+ classes. Also check out John Haack. He is doing every lift 100% legit and he is the strongest right now. I understand your point of view, just wanted to clarify some topics you mentioned
@IvanDjuric3002 жыл бұрын
Yeh I hear ya man. John Haack is insane man. Beautiful thing to watch.

Did you think about paused squats? Clarence0 did it for a year and I think it got him to be extra fast at squat. I might be wrong tho. I'm curious what's your opinion (and the comment section as well)
@IvanDjuric3002 жыл бұрын
Yeh I like them. That’s the best form of squats to me. Definitely effective.

Its probably been said by now, but the song in the Klokov video is Breathe by Prodigy. I used to listen to that album while playing Doom on PC as a kid.

Man, finally I found someone who thinks weight training exactly like me! Who considers weight training as an artform, who thinks about the aesthetics and the beauty of it!
