I know this video is almost 4 years old now, but I just came across it. I have to tell you this video is amazing from the start to the finish, I couldn't stop watching it. You sir have a great talent with all your fabrications (cutting, welding, drilling, wiring). Your install is top notch and the quality of your work is impeccable. I know most people including me wouldn't have the tools to do all the steps you have done but there's a lot of good information and tips to take away from this video. Thank you very much for taking the time to record this for everyone.

Shooting video of your work on pickups is very helpful. I have a 2014 F150 and I am finding I need to do work in the cab. Your explanations and tips for disconnecting trim etc. is very helpful. I came to your channel for tractors and I know it's your first love, but you also teach us how to work on our trucks. Thanks.

Thank you for this video. As a hobby DIY guy myself, I appreciate seeing custom quality work like this instead of just something slapped together. Idk how this video received any thumbs down but I'd love to discuss the reasoning behind it. The great thing about this video is that most people won't have the same vehicle but it gives a great idea on how to accomplish a setup like this for themselves. Now I'm going to check out and thumb up your other videos...

If you sold this as a kit online, I'd consider buying one if I had a F-250. That's really well done.
@lewiemcneely91436 жыл бұрын
Why does this NOT surprise me! I started grinning when I saw the beginning of the kit in the flat bar and tubing and knew what was coming. NO wonder you have all the old artifacts sitting around and I think I heard you say that you had more lights. You beat everybody in the whole world out on that 'kit'! A-PLUS as usual and stay warm and calm. Thanks, Buddy!
@lewiemcneely91436 жыл бұрын
I know. I've seen M/M kits and bet there will be some Caterpillar kits coming! It rained a flood yesterday and up to 40 here today and sunny but NOW it's dropping with HUMMING wind and snow flurries. The sugar maple leaves are about 3 inches long but may get bit tonight. Supposed to be in the 20's. My kids are in Billings Montana and say they've had the MOST snow there EVER so looks like everybody got it but here. We got some but not as much as usual. And don't worry about the comments. I KNOW you're a busy guy ALL the time and God willing, I'll be right here waiting for the next one! Stay warm and safe! And you can always go to making 'kits' for folks that want the BEST! Bar NONE!

What a fantastic video. All the info on install he mentions like the details is the best video presentation I've seen on YT. Wish you were in Tampa FL at a Ford dealer. I'd go to you for my truck needs. I'd like to find somebody to make me 4" polished stainless wheel to wheel kick out nerf bars with 3 LED lights on each side. One under each door and one by bed step. 2000 F350 no one seems to make wheel to wheel kick out nerf bars anymore.

I bought a Ford Bronco new in 1981. I immediately put a set of the full length diamond plate running boards on it, mainly to protect the body from rock chips as it had factory installed oversized tires on it. The running boards ran from the back side of the front wheel openings to the front side of the rear wheel openings. I then installed two-bulb amber clearance lights that you'd typically see on over-the- trailers just under the body onto the running boards. I can't remember, but I think there were 6 on each side. It looked really cool at night but after that I couldn't get away with anything. No one else had ever done anything like it so EVERYBODY in the community knew it was me. 😂 Nice installation, Sir.
@mellsterr61925 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing on my 86 F 350 and 86 Bronco(the Wife's truck) using the Truck Lite model 19 lights. I then installed Truck Lite Model 22 amber marker/turn signals on the end of the running board. Like you said, I couldn't get away with anything. Eveybody in town know our trucks!

Thanks - Used this video 5-years ago to diy side marker lights. Used it as a reference but redid it shortly after and changed it up. Pro-tip for anyone watching now: Invest in tooling & buy sealed connectors like Deutsch DTM or weatherpack/metripack. Even cheaper is just using those two-pin molded trailer connectors. It's way more involved than doing it the way this guy did, however the end result is something fits /functions just like this guy demonstrated & can be easily removed and maintained. For example you should be able to remove the light bar without having to cut wires. If you want to do it "like OEM" -- buy a 4 two pin connectors and terminate the 4- auxiliary blunts. Use the studs behind the dash for grounds like this guy did. Instead of digging in there to splixet up those blunt ends - you just need to make connectors. The light bar should have a connector/plug like in the video. You'll want to then make two "Pass throughs" on both sides, where the driver sills are (towards the rear of the cab). This is also like how ford does it (sort of) location wise for the OEM crew cab running board courtesy lights. The pass throughs can be done w/ more expensive connector or just use "1/4 cordset cable glands" At minimum you'll need to make 3 jumper cables. The OEM wire harness inside is like a big jumper cable, the first jumper connectors from the auxiliary connectors to the pass through connectors on both sides at the bottom of the door sills. Then make two jumpers, one for both light bars - connects from the pass through exterior connector to the connectors for the light bars. This method means you can disconnect the interior/exterior harnesses like OEM. An example of when this is more or less necessary is when you pull the cab - if you wire the lights through the front, there is s chance the wire gets snagged on something that is on the frame, don't see it too often. Another example is if you have OEM or aftermarket running boards, then you wiibe able to remove the light bar and replace those running boards (brackets/bolts) that this light bar would be blocking. If you're hard wiring it then that means you'll either have to plan ahead with a service loop (extra length of wire to make it easier to pull wire out) or plan ahead to cut the wire harness. Instead of welding up a bracket, i used the square tube itself and plugged the ends, slipped a hex bolt through, the tight clearance held it captive. Bolt through from the rocker panel - Hex Bolt - Square tube - Isolation Nut/Nylon - Rocker Panel - Hex nut & lock washer. Used 4 3/4 truck lite LEDs from Napa on each side

There is a factory harness under the body that is meant for the factory optional running board lights. The lower end XL trucks don't always have the plugs but higher trim levels should have them. Won't cause problems with the overly sensitive lighting system since it is meant for this exact purpose.
@troy96165 жыл бұрын
Where's the body harness located?

@@troy9616 look for a 2 wire connector clipped to the outer side of the frame on either side of the truck near the rear of the cab. They will have blank plugs installed to prevent corrosion of the terminals.

Going thru your older vids, new subscriber, extremely nice job all round, very professional. The one thing I might suggest, if you did want to have those lights work with your running lights, is to tap a lead from a running light circuit to the control side of an external relay; with your load side of course running the markers. That could free up your switch if you needed it for other duty and that slight load should not *Dodge guy here so...* bother your CMs.

I still own this truck, and it's never been driven in the winter so no salt corrosion to worry about. It only has 28,000 miles on it now - for half the year I just drive my old '03 F-250, which handles all of the snow plowing and road salt trips. When spring rolls back around and the salt has been washed from the roads, this 2016 comes back out :-)
