Most of us have ALL of our life savings in only 1 or 2 houses, & the fact that entitled humans abuse us homeowners like that because they want "Free stuff" that other people worked their whole lives for it disgusts me. I heard last year about a Man who had to leave his home for a short amount of time for something like a family emergency. Came back & squatters took over his home. Nobody would help them. He, his wife & CHILDREN had to LIVE in their CAR nearby while trying to fight the squatters with no money to do it with. It was heartbreaking!!!!

@user-zu1xx3cg7t5 ай бұрын
Having looked for a rental, I just want you to know that there is a major scam for potential tenants. You find an ad for an apartment or house, at a very low rent, and you contact the advertiser about looking at the property. The story for them “I am out of town right now, but feel free to go and look at the outside of the property.” “If you like it, you can send me the deposit, and I will send you the keys”. Oh and “ I really like you and would like you to be my tenant, God Bless!” as you end conversation. I have been on the other end also, where my employer had a small house for rent, directly across the street from the business. Consequently, I noticed a vehicle at the house, so I pulled in and asked if I could help them. They then explained that they were interested in the property, that they had seen on Craigslist. They then showed me the ads. The fraudulent ad was using the photos from an ad that my employer had posted, but at a greatly reduced rent. I can see how an empty house could become a squatting situation without the tenant even knowing that they have been duped.

When my husband passed away my 13-year-old son and myself inherited a RV park that he owned in Georgia. Customers would sometimes come and say they wanted to stay a month or two pay the first months rent and pick out a lot or I would’ve assigned them a lot and then they wouldn’t pay any more rent after that. In the beginning for me,the law used to come and tell them they had to leave and take their camper if they were not gonna pay rent, then the people would leave with their camper or RV, but within a year after my husband passed and I was running the RV park I would have to call the law they would tell him to leave, and the people would say no that they had been living there that they were paying rent and they would get me the money for the next months rent when they had it. All the sudden one cop said they knew everything about the law and instead of telling these squatters to leave, he would say oh well OK she’ll have to go to get evicted RV park. Renting a lot for a camper or RV on wheels is not the same as renting a house or a apartment was treated like that before legally but then all of a sudden the courts realize they were missing out on the money it cost for evictions so they told me I had to start filing for evictions and so now not only did it cost me the loss of the electricity and water they were using and rent from someone who would actually pay their rent but cost myself and my son the court cost. it was horrible.

In Texas I’ve seen a full on squatter situation on my street in an upper class neighborhood. A family moved in a home when empty between tenants and when confronted legally by police presented a fraudulent lease. 6months later, the homeowner spent thousands to have the courts force them to leave. Texas is NOT immune to this situation and our laws aren’t strong enough yet. It’s even more concerning with the rise in homelessness and the flood of illegal immigration. People desperate for housing at any cost with nothing to lose are willing to take legal chances at a home owner’s expense.

That's funny that someone spent up to a quarter million dollars to get someone out of their house. I have an idea that would cost a lot less. But to each his own.

Why is FLORIDA the only State that came up with a plan to get homeowners back into their home within 24 hours? If they can do it what's wrong with the other states allowing this criminal behavior to continue?
@crystalquasar68415 ай бұрын
We have Ron DeSantis. Seriously, though, everyone in every state should be DEMANDING strong laws against squatting. I don't want this existing anywhere in this country.

@@crystalquasar6841 I really believe that Democrats love chaos and they know this isn't right! I think squatters should go into all the homes of the Democrats who are pushing this squatting and not doing anything about it

Couldn’t the home owner pay someone else and make a rental contract like the squatter did and when they are out of the house the other person can go in? Then when the squatter comes back call the police and say they’re breaking in? Second question could a home owner have this happen to them while gone on vacation? It seems common

The problem with civil matters is the person who is being the criminal doesn’t have a pot to piss in and the person that is victimized has to pay to go to court to get a judge to say yeah you’re right and then there’s no one to help you still go get your property. I had this happen with a person that kept my car. I won in small claims court so I had a document that said indeed that’s my car. Oh wait, I already had the car registration that said it’s my car. It basically kept me from getting arrested when I went and took the car back and emptied all their stuff out onto the sidewalk.

That guy trying to be nice to these squatters is NOT NECESSARY. You needed to make your statement and LEAVE!!!This mealy-mouth long “Apology” is getting NONE OF THEIR GRAR MOVED INTO THE DRIVEWAY!!! People are too soft now days.This would’ve been handled a LOT Differently in the 60’s & 70’a.

Squatters in Alabama must retain continuous and uninterrupted possession of the land for at least 20 years. They will also be responsible for paying property taxes that may be due during that time.

Maybe it would be a good idea that all home owners have to register in person their home owner proof &?have it mandated that the same homeowners have to update the same police department within 7 days if they lease the registered property & the name of the people who a living there. Even a family member. I believe that this will go a long way in protecting the citizens as the police would know for certain who is allowed to live there so if reported, they can arrest the squatters the same day.

Can a home owner go to their local police station before their vacation and provide them with a copy of their title, lease, ss number, drivers license and a photo of their house a total of 2 pages. So that way when they come back to their house from vacation if this type of situation should present itself they can go to the police station in person to report the situation and the police would have the ability to have those people leave the owners house.

I like the loop hole in favor of the owner of the house has a right to have their property in the house, owner leaving snakes on the loose in the house , anouther played Angelic music 24/7 , there is alot of things they can do to make squatters leave on their own , the imagination is a true blessing ,

Interesting ; I read about a similar situation in Mesquite,TX which would make me sell a property quick to avoid similar. Relatives can be a pain but best to leave one on or in a property.

Real estate agents need to be educated in this subject. It should be included as part of their continuated education to retain their license. When my 90 year old Mother decided to sell her house that she has owned for over 60 years and moved out, I was very concerned. This is in Massachusetts, out in a very rural area. Still it was located three miles from a highway that runs from Boston to Springfield, MA a I shared my concerns with the real estate agent of the possibility of squatters moving in while the house that is clearly vacant with a for sale sign. The real estate agent actually laughed in my face. He stated that in his 20 years in the real estate industry, he had never seen this happen. He did not get that these are different times, he did not take into consideration the housing shortage and migrant situation in this state. My Brother and I had to check on the house every single day it was on the market and until a selling contract was signed. Off the subject, vandalism/arson were other concerns and the real estate agent scoffed at this as well. We were relieved after the sale was closed by the attorneys

Locks only keep honest people out. I was able to pick the door lock on my apartment for the first time in 20 seconds. Used a large bobbie pin and small screw driver.

What I don't understand is why are they making this the law why don't they make it the law that if you go into someone's home and it's not your home you did not purchase it and you have no proof that you are renting or owning that home then you are the one going to jail for a very long time. The system is broken situations need to be changed to protect the citizens of America

Regarding the stat of the number of squatters in the world. The definition is very broad and includes millions upon millions of people who are penniless, who were born penniless and will die penniless who of course live somewhere so therefore they are squatters. This is completely different than the definition here in America. Hope this helps understand this enormous number quoted.

In the State of California any lease over 366 must be in writing according to Statute of Frauds Also the squatters would need to show proof of payment if they are claiming that they have a lease bank statements cancelled checks mailing of payments another way is to either should a grant deed or call a title insurance company plus the squatters need to show that they are paying the taxes also the county recorder will have proof of ownership

The federal government needs to make an anti-squatter law where the law officers can arrest squatters. Arrest them for breaking and entering & damage to the homes. Especially when these people are professional squatters.
@vicm65615 ай бұрын
That would only happen if the squatters are in the wealthy houses . Although one was right down the road from LaBronn James

There was a time when your property was protected by a deed but given that I've had all my properties in Maine that I jointly own with my husband in the last 10 years stolen from me, I can attest that house stealing thru and prospers in Maine because falsified can be easily e-filed and the those who are supposed to protect your property rights will do both to help you get it back.
