Long femurs = lowbar squat= more weight. I have short femurs and therefore I have to squat highbar, otherwise its impossible to hit depth and not fall over without rounding my back and then have lower back issues. I also pull sumo. I'm 6'1 and just turned 23. My squat is 230kilos, my bench is 160kilos and my deadlift is 290kilos. He is right but he was wrong with saying that long femurs give you a more upright squat, but your long femurs allow you to squat lowbar and therefore have a stronger squat imo

Can someone clarify this for me? Length is relative, so short femurs means long torso, and long femurs means short torso. Tibia length is irrelevant to your big three leverages. With long femurs, conventional deadlifts will be easier because your torso is short and upright, and your glutes and hamstrings are stronger and more engaged since you are sitting back more. With short femurs, sumo should be easier since your torso is long, you want to be in an upright position to negate that limiting factor. For squats, long femurs causes you to use your glutes and hamstrings as well, which makes low bar easier and stronger. short femurs causes you to be more upright, which means high bar squats should be easier. I don’t see how bench is affected by the length of your lower body or torso, but I would assume the length of your arms for range of motion, the size of your rib cage for ROM, and I’ve heard broad shoulders helps but I’m not sure why. Supposedly weight also matters by reducing rom, but I’m not sure how increased fat affects leverages exactly. If you have both long femurs and long torso, you are just tall, and the inverse is true for being short.

Please don’t do deadlifts and squats when youre 13. You can with EXTREMELY light weight, but avoid it at all if possible. I don’t see a problem with bench though. I hope you don’t ignore this, as everyone says this for young people. But only because there is a certain truth to that. It’s amazing you’re going to the gym at 13, make it a habit and a priority especially for your age and don’t let anybody give you any shit about it.

@do_odman
@do_odman Жыл бұрын
I doubt it. Squats are generally gonna grow the mess out of the deadlift. The deadlift's just not that technical. Though, I agree people should and definitely can afford to deadlift more, even if it's sumo, stiffleg, and rdls for disadvantaged lifter.
@overratedfool6900
@overratedfool6900 Жыл бұрын
That's nonsense. As a beginner myself (11 months), I feel like even I'm qualified to respond to a comment about a beginner programme. I've been squatting mostly twice a week and doing less frequent DL work (some RDLs, some actual DL). I almost pull (170kg) my squat (100) and bench (80) combined. It took me nearly 6 months to even manage to squat to depth (parallel) with any amount of weight and only recently have I acquired the flexibility to squat to depth with no bar (it's so much more comfortable with a plate on my back to help me get down). I tried just walking out from the rack with 120kg the other day (with no intention of trying to squat it) and my back hurt in about 5 places. It felt crazy heavy. The thought of somebody squatting more than they DL hurts me to even think about. I could probably squat twice a week for the next 5 years without ever DL and still pull more (my quads[/grip] are the limiting factor on my DL anyway). Some people just aren't built for certain lifts lol, and I'm only 6ft1 so hardly an extreme example (6ft6 wingspan).

It took me a while to realize that. I’m 5’7 and have very short femurs, and my deadlift is absolute ass. I bench 200, squat 300+, but I haven’t even been able to break 300 on my deadlift. It annoys me so much since I’ve spent countless hours dedicated to improving my form on all three lifts, but my deadlift just won’t grow despite having near perfect form.

Honestly, I think it's just his form. Look at it, he is trying to pull everything with his back and no leg. The deadlift is primarily a leg movement. Doesn't mean you have to squat it, but you can't just pull with your back and expect good results.

My numbers (so far) for squat, bench, and deadlift are 575lbs/355lbs/635lbs. I trained deadlift and bench much more early on but have always thought that my squat would be my best lift if I trained it more. Closing in on 600lbs for the squat now. I almost completely stopped going heavy on bench about 1.5 years ago because I had some kind of strain/injury in my right arm from arm wrestling that made pressing annoying. Can still hit 300 or so but I haven't pushed it.

I'm in the great squat and great deadlift crew. Long torso, short legs, short femurs relative to tibia, long arms. Sumo and squat I can do easily. Bench I'm pretty bad at. People always shit on sumo and say "it's not a real deadlift" yet conveniently ignore the fact that conventional is far better suited to the long leg, short torso crew. Someone with a long torso, and god forbid also short arms, is at an absolutely huge disadvantage doing conventional deadlift.

Probably if he wasn’t trying to lift with his fucking back and lifted with his legs he’d get the deadlift up. Lmfao

Long femur + shortened Achilles heel= no barbell squat with any substantial weight. Big calves tho so a win is a win

Alright so how to I stop squats from hurting my neck? I can squat 310 but it feels like it's gonna break my neck even though the bar rests on my shoulders
@Keegs909

u r prolly using a naked bar, just put like a towel or pad on ts and thenbit wont hurt as much afterwards

@@trentonfiffia8063 then its prolly a form/stability issue cause your body should be going straight up and not bending. I would record yourself on a lower wieght and look at your form to see if its alr or not then try to fix it.

I am having a big issue with my weightlifting. My deadlift and squat are very good relative to how long I have been training(squat is 2.15(405 roughly) times my body weight and deadlift is roughly 2.4(460 roughly) times my body weight at 190 pounds after training for about 2.5 years). Despite this my bench press is really bad(squating 315 is easier for me than benching 155)I have been stuck at around 180-200 for about a year and have tried a bunch of different workout plans yet am still getting more progress on my other lifts in a month than in a year for bench press. Is there anyone that has some ideas that can help.

Yeah. My bench is about half my deadlift. Idk how good that is. Dead definately more than my squat.

How about if you’re squat and deadlift are barely higher than your bench

I have short arms and short legs. Can't really squat, myscle bound+arm injury so can't hold bar in my back. But my bench is 195 and my deadlift is 265😂 I don't like that closeness

See, idk wtf I have, but I will say I love squatting more (I feel like it's 100x more impressive than deadlifting) than deadlifting even though I have a decent deadlift (500 lbs). I have rarely deadlifted, but my deadlift is really good I just don't like training the deadlift bc sqauting is more impressive especially a high bar sqaut that's atg ( my atg high bar sqaut max is 485). It's funny bc my friends tell me I could have an easy 600 lb squat if I went to parallel and did lowbar but the high bar and going fully atg is just so much more impressive and I feel it in my quads way more that way. I have a decent bench as well (385 lbs) and it's hard to do all three PL movements per week so I just throw out the deadlifting and I'll do it every now and then with my friends. Also, my deadlift pr was done conventional.

Maybe it's a technique or even a mental issue, but my squat definitely comes second to both my DL (conventional) and bench...

ive got a very strong bench (130kgs; but i think im gonna hit 140kgs very soon, i dont 1rm often) good squat (130×9 i think i can hit 160) and a horrible deadift, ive never deadlifted more than 140. my over head press is also p good. my squat would be better if i didnt skip legs as often as i do
