Squirrel makes a good house pet - very active Squirrel

After feeding this squirrel several times outside my house, now he became our pet :) he is not shy, very friendly (sometimes :)) ) he likes to play. when he is not hungry anymore he will still take the nuts and hide for later, and share with others sometimes.

Such trust and love here. The squirrel is wild, but you can tell he’s pretty comfortable in the house. One reason is because there’s an abundant food supply and no predators. Squirrels are smart! 🐿

Squirrels CAN make GREAT house pets, I had one named Rocky (named after Rocky and Bulwinkle)… HOWEVER, They will only really bond with 2 or maybe 3 people in a household.... At the time I had my pet squirrel, I had a family of 5 people in the house.... It would kind of tolerate my mom and my older brother, but would occasionally attack them. Nothing vicious or dangerous (maybe pounce on their legs as they passed or something similar), but it certainly didn't like them. He would not approach them for play time or cuddle time like he would with me and my Dad, and occasionally with my younger brother.

Where they know food is like any animal they will come back lol. I have a pet squirrel not even 1yr yet. He is our pet son. We feed, play and walk him outside. Most ppl would say they aren’t captive animals but mine was shortly after birth & that’s all he knows

4 weeks ago a squirrel came to our house, she was a baby squirrel and used yo play around my back, used yo sleep over chest, sometimes inside my tee, because she loved warmness. I used yo massage over her head when she used to nap over my palm...she was so small that she was fitting over my palm so easily. She was the cutest of cutest. Today around 3am i found her dead over my brother's bed, we don't know how and it was this, just 4 weeks and i left heartbroken. I spent my whole night crying and sobbing. And KZbin here is recommending me all these videos. This is so heartbreaking.

We also had a squirrel (a red squirrel) which used to visit our yard in search for food and later the squirrel actually came indoors as well and jumped up on our sofa :) We could also feed it by hand and we named him/her Snacky ^^

She's so sweet, friendly, funny, smart, and tame. She's even gentle with my 10 month old baby. Idk, maybe she's an exception but in my experience squirrels make excellent pets!

Not sure if you are still following comments but if so, did you rescue him at first and then let him go out here and there or has he always been outside but made friends with you when he was young? I also have one that I rescued about 2 months ago. I cannot release him yet due to the fact that he was rescued young and hasnt fully learned to be a big boy in the wild yet. Also it has turned very cold quickly and I worry about him not being able to build a sufficient nest to keep him warm. He is very very active LOL..I compare it to a toddler on adderall. When he gets too excited and bites a little too hard I can say Easy Bite and as crazy as it may sounds, he listens for now. I have rescued chipmunks and even a racoon last year but he is quite different from them. For instance, today he has learned to open my pantry cabinets. Any advice on how you managed to start letting him have outside time would be great. We love the little guy so much and want to do what's best for him so he can continue to be healthy and happy.

I am still reading each and every comment :) He was never rescued, lived on the tree outside of our house and slowly became friendly and he made us his own and will never let any other Squirrels get close to our door, even ones from the same tree I guess he's brothers and sisters, they all knew this was his territory and only come get a food when he wasn't around.

I feed the squirrels in our back yard.They love pumpkin seeds,dried corn and birdseed.One of them is more tame and will come close to me but never like this one.I call him Squirrely.When I get ready to feed them I call them and they come down from the trees to eat-so do the birds.I always keep a birdbath full of water-squirrels drink from it too-water is very important.

there is not enough vertical climb object in this squirrel environment. Squirrel are built to be in the trees not to trot around like a dog. You need to add ropes, structures, hanging bridges in your home that the poor squirrel can climb. Also feed him organic apples. not regular apples as it one of the most pesticide sprayed fruit.

Squirrels will fuck you up, no joke. Don't ever try to put your hands around a wild squirrel. Their claws are sharp as needles and will cut up your skin, and when they bite it easily pierces flesh, their jaws are strong enough to crush nuts, human flesh is like cutting through jello to them.

Puppycakez had a squirrel I never met before,lol, eat penuts between my fingers other day,. I was nervous he or she might chomp my finger to shreds, but it ate it so delicately out of my hand I was amazed, and fed it several more. so I suppose your right, if a squirrel wants to bite or inflict harm on you, like you got it trapped or something, it might get mean, but this one experience I had was totally cool.
