Joe you really kicked ass in the chainsaw dyno world. You made it a reality and accessible to the public as a service. Not many have ever made such a machine so I imagine you had little to no information on how to build it based off others. I think its really awesome. I think u should do a video explaining how you read the graph, for instance most people would read the graph left to right when in fact the dyno run starts from the max rpm (on right of graph) & as you do the pull inceasing load moves to the left. So its kinda backwards. Great video, all the best.

I would say that the way your dyno is set up in that you're going from highest RPM to low RPM pulling down the engine speed with the load fits best for chainsaw engines because that's exactly the way in which they are tested in the wood, spinning up a big flywheel would be a pointless thing for a chainsaw engine, but having load drag it down? Perfect. I for one am happy with the portwork you do as well! (Would love to see a A nitrous saw)

I was just thinking about that simple hydro and psi gauge but my buddy is a little bit more of the electronics Wizard so that alternator and using the watts output is fantastic idea!!! Awesome job bud

Hey there buddy, absolutely wonderful insight into the whole Realm of building a Dyno! It’s really an absolute necessity in my mind that someone who is chasing their different lists of moves for the specific model that they are developing their systems for need’s some kinda repeatable testing system so they can compare their change and see those individual results for each little change to make sure that they haven’t gone too far… as a self taught two stroke engine enthusiast from a lifetime career with saw’s and small engine powered equipment and having done just about everything mechanically or when I was with FUGI FILM North America trained the field technician’s to diagnose the timed chemistry bath’s so you send your couple samples through then you can test those 5 different types of chemistry to guarantee that they all five and testing “good” solution with correct range and no contamination then you have a three color type filter pattern and by comparison from what you have to what you need you make a couple different configurations with the three layers of your color compensation to have the little older ladies who usta drop of those grandkids birthday parties rolls of 35mm film able to get them there smiles in 30 minutes! LMFFAO!!! It’s was a really fun machine to fix because they had track drive issues and then the chemical moving through with the time and temperature divination and variations would be fun to try to make a three color correction filter competition solution for all those different types and speeds of available films in our US market! LMFFAO,., it’s just like anything else you start to recognize certain similarities and traits common among manufacturers and whatnot. Really fantastic to get to actually get to here your own metal chain of thoughts and then after your first year of work and your trials and tribulations and your 50,000,000,000 hours problem solving and really seeing how when you pulled the trigger on what do I need and want from this extremely important system! Exactly what you did!!! It’s a generous amount of information and insight and I thank you considerably!!! I say critical where some guy’s might not but from 7-8 years ago when I finally got a look at how you were operating your business and the fact that you can absolutely say I change ( X - amount for this job and this much more power!). Or X-amount for the full deal then you have this amount of power and this is your proof! It’s just a straight up and extremely professional level of service and you were not charging your customers or “Saw Brothern! As much money as a couple of those guru’s with a little bit in a dremel that wallowed around in some areas around the transfers and declare that they are all “extremely jacked up logging saw’s!” LMFFAO! Hey there buddy, great to hear and all… in my research for where I want to send my baby off for this awesome treatment and upgrade and find my saw builder …. What percentage of power increase does your work actually add to my girl and what is the cost? And it’s a very very hard world to actually find that dude who says it’s all listed on the site and it’s this amount of upgrades and you have choices there! You are selling us less experienced and less “decent metal shop tools guy’s” the freaking awesome vent covers or hood’s so we can make a great looking muffler mod cheap and they can look good! I don’t have a way to stamp out those long wide vent cover’s and three different types keep me making a decent looking upgrade !!! A fantastic wealth of knowledge and I’ve not only never seen a negative word from you about someone else but when you where harassed so a now defunct super stud kid who knew everything said crap… you actually make it a point to play nice and stay extra professional and not even sink to that level where the potential argument might have helped the silly fella you spend time in your own videos explaining the right way..,or my preferred way because you can actually avoid possibly getting issues with this and that after you change this so just might wanna think about this and that and were just straight up and straight forward with why you didn’t do things like that and why you used your particular process and procedures and I was absolutely hugely impressed by the fact that you completely ignored all negative shots or bull crap and you just simply explained why his thinking needed a little more work and then you even explained to him and his viewers the better quality way to get project done more efficiently and effectively and several of your more bolder followers just jumped into the comments quickly saying little buddy you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself.., we think that sun attitude is fun and it’s funny to actually act nuts but for a real saw builder you are just barking up the wrong tree! It’s really funny too because I saw that the older open 020 topend or cylinder’s bolt on a 200T making more torque power but it’s using twice the amount of fuel to do that! That’s the exact day I stopped caring about getting the ultimate power boost out and just getting that exact amount of balance where you are getting everything that is as perfect as possible! I’m not cutting my intake floor down two more degrees to use 30% more fuel for a 15% power gain just because it’s actually possible… I’m lazy and walking around for fuel stinks and if you don’t really even need a longer bar or if you have to much power to actually run your chosen setup you can turn down the power to pull up the fuel mileage and I’m extremely excited about those kind of things because I’m working with them as a tool so I appreciate not blowing unburnt fuel out from my muffler and wasting my 30% of unnecessary fuel expense !!! And I do need to state very clearly that I’m very aware of over a half a dozen of guy’s or more like that dozen … who just need to let their past animals in their lives of cutting those trees and also seeing how beautifully they run in their daily lives of on different KZbin videos and how they have progressed and how they continue to blast them chips and run fantastic. Doing a Timelapse type video series is just very neat way to kinda subtlety how much more power is capable of getting produced and with the increased exhaust port dimensions and more heat escaping the engine has been able to perform above it’s original design specifications because it was just modified by a couple of those more regular and simple but quite creative and pretty mechanically inclined fellas that might not have the engineering degree but they have some sharp and creative minds and they know enough to know that if you sick a 1/2 pound of bent metal baffling and you have tried to back that junk into your exhaust box on and engine design that is basically just a little bit of air pressure sucked into at the system grabbing enough fuel charge to make her hit again and continue running that by adding any unnecessary restrictions or back pressure on the simple system you’ll be doing huge damage to the simple design… drilling a couple of holes although they might be considered crude by some will be generally genius to other guy’s who don’t give fifty cents worth of thought about the “looks” of something and they are all about it’s functionality!!! Sleeper’s!!! There’s three different colors of paint and primer on the old Camaro with the Cadillac engine in her and there’s those little 50-60cc looking saw’s that pull like a 90!’!!! LMFFAO!!! With two different colors of aftermarket plastic covers!!!

I know that there ain’t (no two other…good old boys … who love saw’s and tinkering around with them to try and get a little something more then the two of you two dudes in my book’. There’s a big difference between those guy’s who are just crazy addicts and they are just really interested in the saw’s and they live to have their hands on their stuff and then there’s the other set of folks who have a channel and they are just trying to make a conversation or name something chainsaw something because it’s just about getting the hits and making a video show without really caring about anything except possibly being popular or having the most subscribers but they don’t really have a dozen dudes who would drive fifty miles with a truck tire to get them back down home or toss 50 gallons of fuel in the truck and get them off the Hyway.,.. give them a little time and they will be dust in the wind…. My experience still has me believing that real dudes see the difference between people and they will stick with the straight arrow type … no BS of that face for the camera and then act like a totally different person then who they are really…fella’s go through thick and thin with a real man… those showmanship or “tv … KZbin personality type dudes “ should be more conscious of what they are actually trying or working on the things of that nature… I tend to be interested in learning more about what I’m into! I’m too damn old to race bikes and I can’t afford a damn funny car so maybe I can hotrod a dang chainsaw and out cut a couple pretty damn good dudes who have brung there’s a try and have some dang good fun too!!! It’s just a fantastic good group of different people just by accident that most have 3-4 things in common with each other before they even get to meet the other folks! Best dang hobby I’ve ever found!!!

My 1/2 Chinese 371 build ….single 50mm meteor piston kit in the 50mm OEM jug is definitely a great accident in my “build collection!” I’ve got to get the 8pin and see what she has… never had a 371 with the 28 Sugi that wouldn’t stop when I just lay down on her!!!! This one has definitely got the torque!!!!

loved the new intros and this one, especially this one. hopefully me and the builder of mine can figure out the gearing. I'm thinking the wheel is to heavy. by the time we gear it easy enough to spin its going to be over spun in speed. they sent me a new pulley to try hopefully I can get back on it this week

Grateful for the look behind the scenes. When someone sends you a common model for porting, do you always dyno that particular saw first (in stock trim), or do you only dyno the modified saw before shipping and the stock run plot shown to the customer is “off the shelf” from a prior test?

We do before and after runs on all the saws.just because some saws do over or under perform on the dyno runs

With the rpm being taken from the nose sprocket how do you account for possible clutch slip? Why not off the engine?

My thoughts were it is going to see the same type of slip in the real world. Also after running a few wet/bad clutches it is a very noticeable change in power/curve.

@@dynojoemods2764 I have a Dynojet 250 chassis dyno that I use to test motorcycles. It can use either engine rpm (inductive pickup) or drum speed. Yes, clutch slip usually is a distinctive curve, but a slight amount of slip might lead you to some false conclusions. Keep up the good work.

When you start loading the saw, is the load dependent on your control? If so, is there a way to control the flow so that once the saw is at speed, you can turn the knob 100% and it'll allow a consistent load up to full load over your set time?

Yes the load is all controlled by hand, that is where the 10 second run comes in. I have looked into the auto load valves but most dont seem to reccomend them for low power 2 stroke applications

@@RichFife they do have lots of options, but most is optimized to higher hp engines. Also doesn't help that I am running engines from 1.5-15hp on the exact same setup. That is about 900% different power. Might look into it sometime. But most are in the 1500$ range. Not super excited to just go grab one.

Last I checked with go power a small water brake setup like mine started around 8k$ then you still need to make a stand to be able to attach the power heads. I will help the best I can. But I can not really build and sell dyno kits.
