It isn't membrane, it's rubber dome! There's a difference. This uses an electrocapacitive sensing mechanism to detect keypresses, and not a membrane. This is capacitive in nature, not conductive. Hope that clears things up.

@@HipyoTech To add to Tesla's Tech post, the fact that these are EC has led to some debate if they are to be considered "mechanical" switches or not. I don't understand why people keep confusing membrane with rubber domes. "Membrane" refers to the actuation mechanism based on two sheets of plastic that need to be pressed together to close the circuit; the rubber dome is literally a rubber cup sitting below the key cap that provides tactility and return force. The cheap keyboards have rubber domes over membranes, but you can have rubber domes over PCBs or even capacitive sensing as in Topre or Niz. It's the membrane that gives the infamous mushiness feeling, not the rubber dome (which instead is arguably one of the most effective way of obtaining a silent tactile event)

the trick with those costar style stabs is to put the bits in the bottom of the keycap, and the wire on the board, then you hook one side on the wire, and you should be able to push it far enough to the side to hook the other side in (the wire will flex a little.), then you move it to the middle and push it onto the switch.
@thumbwarriordx3 жыл бұрын
I have the perfect technique for reattaching keys to those Costar stabilizers. You jam the bastards into some grease so they stay upright, twist them carefully until they're lined up. Then you do a little wobbly dance shoving the keycap on. 80% of the time it works every time.

A tip on those stabs, cause Razer used to use them and I am still sadly on a 2014 Ultimate, you should put the floating clips into the key cap first then orient it to get one on and then push the other on after. It might take some small force, but it definitely works. Though those types of stabs kind of suck and I just ended up removing mine completely, sounds and feels better in my sick twisted opinion.
@nwimpney3 жыл бұрын
The wire should have enough flex that you can put them both in the cap, hook one side on the wire, then push it over just far enough (flexing the wire slightly) to slip the other one in. You want to get it onto the wire on both sides _before_ putting it on the switch, so that it can still move freely left-right.

i have the niz atom68 as my daily driver. it feels awesome to type on. while the switches sound a tiny bit scratchy, they don't feel scratchy at all. and i kind of like the sound they make. the stabilizers are lubed af and sound amazing (as you have seen in the video). the switches are very very light, so i would recommend adding the springs under every keycap. the switches are also silenced, so they added some orings inside of the switch to dampen the upstroke. i would recommend putting on some nice keycaps, cause the original ones do not look that nice (but they are ok). the only downside of the board is that the keytravel is only 3.2 mm or something like that, while mx typically has 4 mm. so you need to get used to that (i prefer 4 mm). all in all it is an awesome keyboard and i absolutely love typing on it. and you don't need to got through the husstle of lubing, it is awesome right out of the box. i might never buy a new mechanical keyboard because iam so in love with it. the typing experience is different from a mechanical, everything feels much softer while a mx switch feels sharper and more "industrial". but i guess iam one of those persons who once tried topre(topre-clones) and will never go back.

Yes, as others mentioned, I properly place the clips in the keycap first, then align within the metal wire slightly pushing one edge. It's actually easy, I had to discover myself when I bought one Niz Plum micro 84 v2020. I would prefer one Topre but it costs a lot more while I found the Niz for a $100. I also placed two of the extra springs on each frequently used switch for more resistance. The sound is wonderful, I haven't opened it and I am wondering which modification may result in which improvement. Lastly, I now would like better having ordered the smaller Atom 66, the Fs row is not really useful to me.
