I have NX transmission, no problem with shifting to big star, but considerable issues when shifting in mid-range. On the bike stand it shift good, but fails on a trail. Mechanic said the issue is in the cables, I am not sure.

I didn't know that the NX/SX chains could crack like that, have been using mine for over a year without any issues so far. But will definitely keep a close eye on that. Thanks for the video, very informative am using an SX RD and upgrading to GX.

Agree! NX is not too bad. When things break or wear out, I just upgrade to GX or XO. Not really any issues. Def notice the improvement when you upgrade though.

I've been running an NX rear derailer on one mountain bike and Deore XT rear derailleur on another for approx. a year now and have come to find the NX is not as durable/reliable as the Shimano Deore XT. I recently swapped the NX derailleur out for a Deore XT rear derailleur and am very much appreciating the reliability in shifting :) I am interested with your suggestion to upgrade the mounting knuckle to see if that would make a difference.

I ended up with NX when the bike manufacturer and dealer upgraded upgraded my bike (for free!) to 1x and NX was the logical option given the HG freehub. I'm pretty happy with it BUT the DUB BB left bearing has died

So I have a 2021 Norco Revolver FS2 100, its an XC race bike and I intend to race it. It has NX Eagle on it. I am wondering if the issues with NX Eagle are there from new or occur with wear over time? I was considering making some upgrades to Shimano but was wondering if I could maybe get through a season with the NX Eagle first before it started causing problems. Was thinking I would use XT RD and Cassette with SLX chain and shifter and then use One's Switch SRAM DM to put a Shimano compatible chain ring on the NX Eagle crank. I noticed you said you like the GX Eagle over the NX Eagle chain, I had understood the GX chain was the same just with a different coating. Would appreciate your thoughts.

I have the SX Eagle on a $1200 hard tail. What upgrade would you recommend? And would there need to be any conversions necessary. I believe if I go above NX that I need to convert the Shimano hub.

When my Commencal Meta TR 29 arrived, it was equipped with NX with GX Crank. Upon consulting SRAM, I immediately upgraded to GX Derailleur and Chain. Someday I may go to Eagle Cassette, but this is working great! Also, because of thumb injury, I upgraded to GX Twist Shifter (incredible how accurate it is and how fast you can shift to any range of gears). I love the setup, particularly climbing with the Meta!!! I don't need any more lower gears, and I don't want a bigger jump to a 52t, but I was wondering what you think of the new GX Derailleur as compared to the older one. P.S. Still riding my Trek 3x8 hardtail to work - love it too!

On your intense spider can you switch to a SRAM XD freewheel? I have the same BoostHub on my Intense 951 and switching to a GX cassette could save a good amount of weight. Only issue is the incompatible freewheel. TIA!

Novice question here, but did you say you could upgrade JUST the derailleur to a Shimano SLX? Is that possible with preexisting sram eagle components? I would love to upgrade from an SX eagle on the bike I might buy, but the SLX seems cheaper and better than GX (forgive me if I'm wrong). I just didn't know if it was possible to mix and match brands. If not, would a GX eagle derailleur be compatible? Apparently the SX/NX parts use a different hub, so it wouldn't be compatible with the wheel? Any help appreciated :)

Any thoughts if the GX Lunar Max 52t derauiler is a better NX upgrade compared to the suggested Shimano SLX? From what I understand, the GX Lunar Max is backwards compatible to 50t (currently running Sunrace 11-50t) but unsure if it (GX Lunar Max) has the same short comings you describe with the 50t GX derauiler in the video.

I am working on my friends Sram Eagle 12 speed, and that booger wont down shift from the biggest cog to the next smallest. I have to back pedal and then it will shift. It does shift from the biggest to the next smallest but it takes a long time. I am waiting for that B-screw adjustment plastic tool. Any advise of what might couse this?

I really like that Intense bike! I 😎😍 My new YT Capra came with full SX. 1×12. The rear derailer isn't the best. Plastic for sure! And no wheel to help ease cable shifting. Will upgrade to GX when breaks. Last years base Capra had full NX. But they went cheaper spec to lower price quite a bit. Putting it in my price range. My Marin Trail bike came with NX derailer and shifter and Fsa crankset. It has been really reliable. Have been on Sx since January...Sx hanging in there. Nice video. Very helpful.

i destroyed an slx derailleur by adjusting a screw once... it is utter garbeage. shimano slx or shimano deore on the other hand feel absolutely amazing and is even cheaper. no idea how they do it. many bikes come with eagle though, i had to pay alot to change my drivetrain to shimano after the crappy sram bottom bracket started creaking like crazy.

Hi! I wanted to ask a friendly question if Sram is a bit more durable than Shimano? It's a Haibike with Deore XT (2x10) and I just need a new front chain ring (44T) every 3 weeks. It always looks like I used an angle grinder on it... This is unbearable...

@@LoveMTB Thanks for anwsering! 2-3 weeks after installing a new 44T chainring, the front derailleur starts throwing the chain over the chainring. If I adjust the front derailleur so that the chain cannot throw over the chain ring, then I can no longer shift up. its impossible to adjust, iam only able to stop that again and again with a new chain ring. I decide that it's worn out because every time after 3 weeks it looks as if someone had worked on it with an angle grinder, this time it's even bent. I asked if sram is more stable because then I only have one chain ring at the front and this whole front derailleur horror might end then. But can I still drive my 45 km/h on a straight with sram gears? The gear shifts with only one chainring in front all have so few teeth. And i still need my hill climbing gears. Sorry vor all that spam.

I’m one person that doesn’t want a 12 speed cassette. I really like the idea of the micro shift advent x and the box prime 9. Big range, fewer gears. I just want a low climbing gear and a high gear for speed. Then a handful in between ought to do. Maybe you could review one of those to help me decide if I want to lose a few gears. The 2022 Epic Evo comes with all NX drivetrain except for SX chain and X1000 Eagle crankset, its 2021 model comes with Shimano SLX levers and rear derailleur w/Deore chain and cassette. What model do you recommend? 2021 is only $50 less. By the way, GREAT video.

The SX 1 x 12, line came on my wife’s bike and I’d like to upgrade everything except the cranks and front sprocket. But new rear cassette, new rear derailleur, new shift levers. If I get the GX 12 series as an upgrade everything would match up think? You said shimano SLX might fit it too? I like shimano slx it’s what I have on my cannondale habit 6 and it’s given me no trouble in double the riding time of that of my wife’s with SRAM SX which doesn’t shift as well even when it was brand new 6 months ago. I would NEVER trade the ability to downshift multiple gears so I can up shift multiple gears. I am never "in trouble" when I want to go faster, on the other hand I find it soooooo nice downshifting fast when I need it IE up a hill .

Thanks for the help, just hoping i still have "decent" option for 11spd in the future. i like shimano's durability so i might switch to it in the future while using grip shift since i hear there's none of that 1:1 / 2:1 actuation problems like 8,9 speeds had.

Never mind...I just watched your video on this subject..awesome! Wish I knew this earlier, I've been through two GX derailleurs here in the last couple of months due to picking up a stick and bending them all up into unusable hunks. I had some degree of success bending them back into shape, but the crisp shifting just goes away once they get bent, you just can't straighten them back to perfect. (BTW, I have a hanger gauge, and the hanger stayed true in both instances) Can't help but think an XT mech will be much tougher and not bend as easily.

You should check out the new sram 52t stuff, I worked on installing an X01 520 group at my shop today and I was surprised by how well the shifting performance is on the 10t gap 42-52

You could, but you will lose a hyperglide + of Shimano cassette (up and downshifting under load), also I think a cog spacing is a little bit different on Shimano and Sram cassettes. If you have enough money (you are asking about xtr, so I guess you have) you will be better with full shimano or sram drivetrain

@@LoveMTB I did, real good videos. But my biggest problem I think is over spending and buying better parts then I really need. Like do I really need 1x12 GX or Stan’s Flow EX wheels/ margura MT5 or MT7 brakes. I’m building a “Ragley Big AL hardtail. Mainly local trails and like 4X a year I’ll hit the bike park. I even do urban street riding. Oh I left out 925$ Rockshox Pike.

If you want more clearance for you water bottle , you can mount the shock with the body towards the rear and shaft to the front. I did that to improve the ease of removing the water bottle in an intense acv.

Post Shimano 12sp Deore release, any sram 12sp seems pointless unless you are locked into XD body. The cassettes are so much more expensive and combined with worse shifting it just seems pointless unless you go AXS, and even then I think I would possebly still rather have AXS with a Shimano cassette and chain. On one of my bikes I am just waiting for the cassette to wear out before I switch everything to Shimano.

I absolutely agree with you, Shimano is way better thought and designed. My new bike came with X01 AXS, I have given a try and works perfectly tbh (after some tweaking), but if the derailleur breaks is going to be hard to pay 670€ just for it, i might have to buy a Shimano XT 12S one.

Problem is if you have a bike like that you need to have the money to keep backing it. You can't for example go broke on the bike hoping nothing needs to be maintained just like a house or facility. You need to match your resources to what you are doing. If you're worried about an expensive derailleur id stick with a cheaper bike where parts are lower end and cheaper.

I have this thumbs down because I have GX and Nx groupsets. I do not agree with his recommendation on throwing out a brand new Nx chain. How wasteful and unnecessary. The chain is fine if you look after it. I ride enduro in Ireland and the chain has held up well. He didn't like the shifting, has he checked the indexation and tried adjusting it

I changed my mtb drive train from shimano xt to sram gx eagle this spring. I am 100% satisfied with sram gx. I will never go back to shimano.

@@LoveMTB and you shouldn't be replacing the rear derailleur unless you're a crazy rider, rough shifter, careless or a crasher. I have this 2000 deore xt 9 speed derailleur still works but the bike has battle scars. Unless you mean the general reliability is just not there even for casual riding

Before 2 days,one customer complaints about cassette 12 speed SRAM.....It skips when he is driving.....yes. I checked out,after 19 km last gear(small one)was destroyed!!!!19 km!!!!bad reputation for sram👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

The screws that go into the SX plastic body really is bad. SX stands for sucks. Any respectable SRAM Eagle minimum has to be GX.
