As a resident I agree that prices are high but there is a lot of wastage in Sri Lanka so now the people have learnt a lesson and hopefully become more careful with what nature has provided in abundance in this country. As a Sri Lankan, now Sri Lanka is back to normal. There is no shortage of food. People began to cultivate even the small space they had after they realized that there would be a shortage of food. Farmers cultivated all the fallow fields without fertilizer. I am happy to say that now the price of vegetables has come down. This news is old.

So many have lost jobs, businesses have been shutdown... there's no magic wand anybody can wave to make this go away fast. Some people are delusional to think otherwise. Yes things are more stable that it was before when queues lasted for days to just get a few litres of fuel. Now it's a bit better but at what cost? We're plunging further into debt. our families are being broken when parents are forced to leave SL for jobs leaving children vulnerable. You are right in the short term, prices are going down, but not because people or government have solved anything. Basically India and IMF loaned them big money and SL took a breathe,loosened up on imports and prices dipped a bit. But it's not a sustainable solution in the medium to long term, there needs to be deep agriculture reforms that incentivize production without relying from chemicals and with minimal energy input. SL is a country blessed to have that potential, but there needs to be plans of decades long visions which I don't see.

Things have improved drastically compared to last year 1) petrol price reduced 2) Gas prices decreased by 1000rs 3) Tourism increased multifold 4) Remittances increased 5) Dollar rate is down by whopping 40rs. I agreed to the organic farmer because in our rice field in the province we never used any chemicals that is why the harvest is continued and the quality of soil remained organic. that land was cultivated since multiple generation of generations until now. And the main reason why the ban of chemical fertilizer was not for the goal of shifting to organic farming but the government foreign reserved fund that used to purchased imported product like fertilizers was diminished until it was drained. Without foreign reserve a nation cannot import a product.

SL is a socialist country and that means everything runs on subsidies and debt, until they cannot afford it anymore :) When I went there I was amazed how cheap trains and bus tickets were, especially in a country that has zero energy production, all the tuktuks beeping and riding with no customers... It was a very good idea to implement organic farming, but there should had been a scaling down use of chemicals in a span of at least 10 years. The government now is now offering Golden visas to foreigners bringing $ in, but it's a horrible program with high $ requirements and the money is going basically to real estate.Instead, they should lower capital requirements and redirect investments into organic farming cooperations.

In my familya rice paddys even if we are 100% organic....we leave the soil for about 2 or 3 months uncultivated so that the biodiversity will replenish on its own. And by that....we continue to use our paddies generations of generations.

We (the world) need to switch over to Organic, growing, but that can't be done overnight. The reason for Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict is Dravidianism aka Tamil Nazism that came from TN. Tamils believe in an imaginary history in which whole south India and Sri Lanka was a Tamil. Tamils believe SL was Tamil and some cr@p called Kumari Kandam. This is the root cause of SL conflict. There is no any discrimination. True Cultivators are the Insects, who give us honey, fruits and seeds. The people of false Farmers use poison and chemical fertilizers and make their own soil barren. Fertilizer does not improve the soil and you have to use it every year. Animal manure improves the soil. If a lot of chemical fertilizer has been used in the soil, it takes a few years to make it fertile again with animal manure.
