Longer wavelengths will do less damage, as shit like Radio waves are amongst the longest of wavelengths. Things like Gamma rays are incredibly damaging to the human body, and operate at much, much higher frequencies ie: shorter wavelengths. So, if you wanted your microlaser to irradiate your target as much as most possible, you'd decrease its wavelength as much as possible.

Well I don't actually know how it works ingame either, but I assume it'd work that way because as you increased the wavelength, the cooldown was decreasing.

That's close to how it works in real life. Infrared (comparatively long wavelength) laser in physics lab at my uni require simple forced air flow (fancy way of saying "there is a fan behind it" :D) while ultraviolet (comparatively short wavelength) or ultrafast (about ten femtoseconds, or 0.01 nanosecond) impulse lasers need constant water or ammonia solution flow to keep them operational.

I did something similar in one of my first rounds of SS13. I'd watched videos so I sorta knew what I was doing. I think I was janitor? Ordered a pistol, convinced my target to meet me, let him into maint and shot him dead and disposed of the body. Then switched all my ID stuff thinking I was clever. Unfortunately I was later murdered, and turned into a monkey. Have to give props for that. I'm amazed I almost got away with it.
