There is forth way for zombies to spawn. Artifacts. My first RD round was on a station with 3 people. And I got turned into an initial infected by the artifact I was working on. I was like "it's just not sporting with this few people." So I set sci's doors to emergency access, locked myself in one of the artifact testing chambers, and told QM to buy a laser gun. When they showed up, I told them what happened, and turned. As planned, they took me out before I could break down the door. It was a nice little RP moment, but poor QM spent the rest of the round trying to research cloning so they could try to bring me back.

@@Liltenhead If it was higher pop, I would have loved to try and re-trigger the arti in a crowd of people. It was quite the introduction to RD for me, including the fact that I late joined into sci's doors being hacked and electrocuted because an ice anom spawned in med and no one else had access to the APEs.

For roleplay reasons I like to think the "virus" is the reason your character starts preparing for something, putting yourself in strategic areas, etc. It's kind of insane that a virus has gotten that advanced, but it IS the future, and the virus might even be a bioweapon itself.

Not unreasonable, in real life the Cordiceps fungus can effectively mind control insects to get them in the ideal positions to spread its spores for after it has killed them. (Well, it technically just puppets them i think, which may be worse).

It's pretty logical, actually. Many common deseases that we have today trick your nervous system into preventing virus from being exposed to bad conditions and/or helping it to be spread as efficiently as possible (like fear of water with rabies). We could just tell that virus awakes a deep sense of emergency in target, forcing it to collect equipment and be in certain spots. Eventually, the subjects becomes severely paranoid and aggressive towards other people, usually right before complete transformation. Yeah . . . Here's a little rant for yee.

Toxoplasma gondii makes mice not perceive cats as threats and actually makes them incentivized to come towards them. This is because the target is the cat where the infection can grow. Humans infected with Toxoplasma gondii display higher signs of entrepreneurship, and the correlation P value in the studies indicated that it was not a coincidence. In other words, it is definetly possible for a disease to directly influence your behavior, in lesser quantities in humans, but with time it is safe to assume that more severe and controlling diseases like the one in the game could be a non-zero chance of ocurring, of course it'd be small for it hit everything to make a zombie, but still...

the most useful tool for a zombie is the fake death action when you're crit on the ground, since it displays that your eyes are dead and lifeless people think you're actually dead but you're still in crit so you get back up and can catch them off guard REALLY easily. I was a zombie during a round one time and i got back up THREE TIMES against the same people who kept falling for it. Very overpowered.

Actually, it is possible to bring a player back into their human form after they're zombified, you just need to clone their zombified corpse.

Cloning basically doesn't exist. And if a zombie outbreak is bad the round is pretty much guaranteed over.

Fun tip for initial infected players: The key to winning is both reflective vests and speed boots. Lasers are the primary way of taking you down, so being able to sidestep that is very powerful, and speedboots will help a LOT when you need to close the gap to infect somebody, considering how slow you are and how usually they can just walk backwards and shoot at you easily when your numbers are too low.

It prob be good to assume he a zombie cause he turn next to me and bite me. But manage to run away to maint and come back to make antidote. Praise dylo to slow down infections.

Once i was infected, i got to medical for treatment, and there were so many dead body cause of an accident by a gas leak, i turned, imidiatly got the dead captain and the others, we formed a 10+ zombie army olin secounds, we overrun the station in less then 10 min, awesome luck. XD Some people were impressed, others got super angry and sayed "zombies are the worst gametyp". I personally think its super fun if both partys play it good.

Ahh, zombie rounds some of my favourite, I love running around and away from the hordes, plus barricading yourself and holding out till death is fun. There were also a few times where I faked death, got up, and infected three people before dying, which resulted in two turning in front of no one and spreading further.

I kinda like zombs, the only thing that grinds my gears is how much some people care about “winning.” Spacing Evac, attacking shuttle control consoles, or even attacking plasma canisters. I get trying to do good, weaving to avoid shots and even taking cover, but using meta-knowledge to rush down escape pods is pussy ego-gamer shit. They’re making the whole round boring by not chasing survivors.

very very small thing, zombie blood is not the only necrotic reagent, both romerol and necrosol have the necrotic descriptor but the chances of those just lying on the ground is pretty damn rare with how expensive those reagents are

I became an initial infected for the first time a couple of days ago and it went incredibly poorly because the majority of the other initials decided to turn into zombies in the brig/attack the brig. So obviously they all died because security has all the weapons to deal with them so I just panicked and decided to infect all 3 of chef's cows, Alexander and then attacked botany which I got two people. But it was too late at that point security was too high on alert and we were cornered fast.

I have one round as infected enginear. I and two others persons go to corridor into small room with AME. They both start construction and I have devil plan. I quickly setup AME in such patern that it become maze and transform. They both don't have a chance to run from quickly. Than whole engi section was fallen very quickly.

I dont know if this has been patched, but zombies can feign death while in crit just like the living. Might be an exploit, but I used it once to spook the hell out of a secoff. Only really works once though, they usually magdump you after you get up again XD

I believe injecting initial infected blood into someone doesn’t give them the virus sadly. I was an I.I. doctor and was trying to infect people that way.

They really need to buff zombies, they're so incredibly weak, have yet to see them win more than once or twice. Once security catches wind of zombies and spots one, it's game over for zombies. Security will arm themselves to the eyeballs in guns and bullets, and stand in riot shield lines mowing them down. Zombies need to be able to resurrect from the dead, or spread disease easier. My bet is infect easier AND resurrect if not damaged enough. Maybe make it so being on zombie blood, ingesting it, or being right next to one for too long (when not on internals) will spread the infection. And before you say it: Yes I know initial infected are supposed to sabotage and kill BEFORE turning, BUT this never happens. There's always gonna be someone else who gets initial infected and just immediately pops it in the kitchen or something, taking a couple people down before having everyone get shredded by Security, ruining everything.

Medbay is the best for those sudden zombie outbreaks. Blackouts too. Things ramp up too quickly and no one can respond quickly enough.

Cloning doesn't exist in 99% of wizden rounds. And it certainly wont exist on an initial infected round since the zombies already would have started long before salv can get all of the parts.

Have you never played a zombie game with player controllable infected? It's kind of fun being an "extra" to a story and your real strength is your metaknowlege, however for some reason metagaming as a zombie is frowned upon in ss14 (ie chewing on generators).
