GREAT job explaining the info in a short time. Helped even a non tech savvy guy like me, get an understanding how this stuff works. The ONLY shortcoming was, no mention of how eMMC fits into all this.

older macs have upgradable storage new ones have fixed in ram and ssds ur correct apple uses sata ssds but they also use m.2 ssd drives up to 2016 macbook pro m.2 are smller thinner but come in sata aswell but most sata drives are 2.5 inch ssds mainly used in laptops windows or apple devices.. hope thats helps

i hear everything except "what's the difference between ssd and flash storage. Right now you can buy flash storage and portable SSD with same capacity, same speed and same price, so WHAT THE DIFFERENCE?
@SwimmingFinland16 күн бұрын
I am having the same issue on what should I buy to use as one of my backup methods. SSD and Flash stick with roughly the same speed and capacity costs the same. I've heard that Flash sticks do heat more but I already accounted that in my speed calculations. What did you end up getting @trololoev and why? Enlighten me please...
@trololoev16 күн бұрын
@@SwimmingFinland in other video i heard that ssd has significantly bigger resource of work, so ssd is better. But if you didn't use it for long time it can lose information, so use ssd as backup that you made constantly, not as backup that you dig in the backyard for years, for that hdd is better. But if you only compare ssd and flash: they are use same memory principal, but ssd has much more advanced memory controller and cooling control, both help to make bigger longevity. Also ssd faster. Flash usually more compact and cheaper. Both need to be turn on from time to time, so memory controller make it shenanigans for memory longevity. So if short - if you has money and not care about size then ssd is better. Good ssd box important for speed and cooling of ssd.

Cellphones uses SSD or Flashstore? I'm confused
@blitz82294 жыл бұрын
Cellphones have a solid-state drive. That's the broader term. Because most SSDs consist of Flash Memory, one could say that your phone saves data in its flash, even when turning it off SSD - name of a storage device without moving parts used in an application (smartphone, laptop, PC) Flash Memory - specific type of storage Technology based on floating gate Transistors small differences result in bigger confusion :D

I would use a hard drive for that because they are the one of the most reliable storage mediums and also offer large capacity for less money than an ssd

Just wanted to drop a friendly note and point out some errors in your video. The oldest type of storage is punch cards, then came tape, and finally HDD. HDD's can actually last decades as I have some that are easily 20 to 30 years old and still have data on them. My oldest HDD from circa 1988 has completely failed, so HDD can last a very long time when properly handled. And lastly, NAND is pronounced NAND not N A N D, and is named after the NAND gate in computer logic. There is also NOR storage, named after the NOR gate in computer logic.

No. Flash is not that reliable and also easily lost. For long long term storage, hdd is still better than ssd. Ssd are best for speed and to boot the OS and programs from.

@ThomasKelly.4 жыл бұрын
Silicon is a naturally occurring chemical element, whereas silicone is a synthetic substance. Silicon is the 14th element on the periodic table. It's a metalloid, meaning it has properties of both metals and nonmetals, and is the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust, after oxygen. Silicone, by contrast, is a synthetic polymer made up of silicon, oxygen and other elements, most typically carbon and hydrogen. Silicone is generally a liquid or a flexible, rubberlike plastic, and has a number of useful properties, such as low toxicity and high heat resistance. It also provides good electrical insulation. Source: LiveScience. E.g. - Silicon is used for integrated circuits, silicone is used for weather sealant. I noticed the word silicone in the video quickly and looked for the previous obligatory comment.

‼️🤣 solid state does NOT mean “no moving parts”. Who keeps perpetuating this crap out of nowhere? Solid state is and always was the descriptor used for devices which don’t use VACUUM STATE switches, aka vacuum tubes. Vacuum and solid are just the different mediums used in the two technologies. Dear god the ignorance 🤡 There are solid state radios from the 1950s. Did they need moving parts for non-solid state radios? 🤣

Solid-state meant taking advantage of electric (and/or optical) properties of semiconductors. So no etched mechanical nano-cantilevers which I imagine could also be used one day 😂. But for the average Joe it's way more useful to know it has no moving parts = you don't have to treat it like an egg. It's one of the big upsides of SSDs as well as thumb drives (apart from speed).
@billgates3699Ай бұрын
@@piotrb4240 bottom line: solid-state refers to the STATE of the conductor. It is in contrast to Vacuum-state. This has been known since transistors were a thing. Bugboys just have to impart their ignorance.
@piotrb4240Ай бұрын
@@billgates3699 There's no such thing as "vacuum state" 😮, unless you mean the historical HiFi equipment brand... You have 3 states of matter: solid, liquid, gas, plus many add a 4th - plasma. Vacuum is the absence of matter, so it makes no sense whatsoever as a state. If you mean electronics and computers based on controlling current flow surrounded by high vacuum, that's "vacuum tube computers" and "vacuum tube electronics", although those became obsolete about 70 years ago... so I doubt anybody would knowingly refer to it nowadays. And vacuum is not a conductor ("state of conductor"), it is quite the opposite, it's an almost-perfect isolator.

@slendydie12672 жыл бұрын
@@miao7002 It usually has a higher life span than a Hard Disk too. Also how much you can store is more driven by price than higher capacity. Yes while the SSD is more dense it just means they can make it smaller not that you can store more. So if you are low on physical space SSD makes more sense. 1TB SSD = 1TB HDD. What it comes down to is price now. It is faster for sure tho. That said SSD can have a higher capacity. If they made it the size of an HDD it will have a lot more storage.
