In the afternoon hours, SSFR was dispatched as automatic aid to the SVFD/CVFD on a residential fire alarm upgraded to a working fire. Dispatch advised responding units the original call was for a smoke alarm activation with no response from the first due department. The homeowner was now on scene reporting heavy smoke visible from the residence with multiple animals trapped inside. Response view is from Engine 121 with on scene footage from Chief 101. Chief 101 arrived on scene to find a two story, wood frame, residential structure with light smoke showing from the alpha side, establishing command, and preforming a 360 of the residence. Engine 121 arrived on scene as the first due engine company, and Engine 128 arrived on scene as the second due engine company stretching a three inch supply line to Engine 121 for water supply. Once firefighters gained entry to the residence, crews encountered high heat/zero visibility conditions for the entirety of fire attack and primary search operations. The first due crews deployed a 200ft 1 3/4in bumper line, had water on the fire containing the fire to one room, and preformed a primary search of the first floor resulting in the rescue of three animals all within five minutes of Engine 121s arrival. The second due crews deployed a 200ft 1 3/4in backup line to the alpha side, preformed a primary search of the second floor resulting in the rescue of six animals, and confirmed fire extinguishment placing the incident under control within 10 minutes of Engine 121s arrival. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, no injuries were reported on the scene, and all animals are expected to make a full recovery.

SSFR is a combination department in East Alabama staffed with a 24/7 paid EMS crew, and three paid firefighters Monday - Friday during business hours with volunteer firefighters completing staffing during all hours of the day and night. SSFR runs approximately 3,000 emergency calls annually.
