So first, imagine your entire body were as sensitive as your eye pupils. To my knowledge, mukbang videos originally started as a way for young adults living alone to feel like they were having a meal with someone. In Asian culture, meals are generally a very family-centric activity and everyone sits down to eat together, so mukbang videos/streams helped recreate that feeling of relaxing and eating with a friend/family. Then it got blown to way huger proportions where the mukbangs showed exorbitant amounts of food, then it caught on in the US, and now we're here and it's terrible.

I don't know if you have underlying health problems or anything but please don't starve yourself or go on extreme diets, they're really not healthy!

@kim jennie keep up with eating routine, like maybe set alarm reminders on when to cook/eat even if u don't feel hungry. Make sure you have adequate number of meals every day (at least 3 meals).. You must do this or else it WILL develop into an eating disorder + stomach complications. Prevention is always better than cure. Keep up with the routine, this way can also help your body have normal "hunger clock" on its own and someday, you won't need the alarms anymore :) I was also the same no-appetite + stomach discomfort situation as u and am pretty underweight, but after I learn of how it can develop into something expensive and complicated, it's best we apply ways to curb it. Good luck!

Eating moving squid, or octopus tentacles called odoriyaki in Japanese is actually when the nerves are still moving since it is so fresh. The squid is actually killed quickly right before they cut the tentacles so they do not feel a thing. Please do not try to eat live squid or octopus as they have a chance to stick to your throat.

Even as a korean, we don’t even eat our seafood like that. Most of the sea food shown are very uncommon. These types of fish arnt even really eaten by Koreans. In additon, you can have your fish already prepped and killled by the managers. You can just select the fish and ask them to prep them for you. Keep in mind that these are experts and have done this many times so they know how to cleanly kill a fish. She doesn’t actually need to bring the fish alive. If she is just doing a mukbang, she could just get the fish already prepped and show people eating it. But I’m just guessing she is doing this for comedy sake. I would like to compare Ssoyoung to the Japanese seafood prep/cooking channel "Kimagure Cook." He is not a mukbang channel, but focused on showing how to prepare different species of fish and shellfish, and sharing Japanese culture with his viewers. Like Korea, Japan also highly values freshness in seafood, so the meat is still moving while it is being eaten. Sometimes, Kaneko (the man on Kimagure Cook) buys live fish, but he euthanizes the fish very quickly through the proper preparation method before preparing them. For example, in one video he bought a live octopus, and there is a spot between the eyes that you poke your knife in, and then the octopus dies instantly. Meanwhile, Ssoyoung bought octopus as well, but her "preparation" was simply cutting off the "head" areas while the octopi were *very clearly* still moving greatly and in a rather painful, writhing motion. I know Korea and Japan have separate cultures, but there are similar aspects when it comes to seafood preparation. Those of you who use "It's her culture" as defense- it is not even her culture. She tortures these animals to make herself look "funny" and "cute," and whatever she's doing, it is 100% not the correct way at all to prepare fish correctly- even according to her culture. Despicable. Edit: Real quick, I wanna know where the FUCK this woman got a fucking FUGU PUFFERFISH, because those fish are highly toxic, dangerous, expensive, and require a PUFFERFISH CLEANING LICENSE in order to actually buy them! Where did I learn this from? Kimagure Cook, who has several videos of him cleaning fugu pufferfish and showing how to do it properly, all while showing his legitimate pufferfish license beforehand just to assure that he is qualified to clean the pufferish properly. I read dogs and cats are tortured because they think it makes the meat taste better.. not sure if it's a Chinese, Korean or all Asian type thing but it's been mentioned alot. Tortured animals = better meat.

@@AttksMatt the only thing she ate alive were the octopuses. But that's just Korea, it's not uncommon to see people eat octopuses alive there. Other than that, all of her food are not alive (While she eats)

The reason why she acts that way is because she's trynna look cute. Because in Asia, (east asia specifically), a girl being helpless, weak, vulnerable or scared is considered as cute since it gives men the chances to be like "iM herE tO pRoTecT yOu" which makes men feel like a hero. So yeah, thats why such behavior is considered as cute. It eventually evolve to some really stupid pick-up trick or cringy kdrama scene for example, a girl stumble while running in the rain, or a girl being too weak to open the water bottle.
