Buckley looks at the story that has effectively dominated KZbin for the last week: SSSniperWolf, one of the most famous people on KZbin, went to the house of one of her biggest critics, a fella by the name of Jacksfilms, and live-streamed it for 5 million of her closest Instagram followers. We know there's likely no punishment coming, so what's the next best thing we can do about it? Make jokes about her!

UPDATE: Literally 34 minutes after this video went live in Early Access, KZbin tweeted the following: "Confirming SSSniperWolf has received a temporary monetization suspension per Creator Responsibility policies". So, as I predicted, nothing more than a minor slap on the wrist. An unspecified number of days where she won't receive any money from ads, could be a week, could be 2 days. Nothing that will actually harm her channel (oh, and no doubt KZbin will continue to run ads, so THEY'LL make money off her videos).

That's pretty insane, but we saw it coming. If anything, I think Instagram were the ones that really should have done something (I'm surprised you didn't cover this) because for a moment they were essentially complicit with the doxxing by hosting the content and I think they're particularly guilty by not stepping in. Wikipedia has almost always had a contentious relationship with KZbinrs, partly because their fans who create articles on their site have little idea about their guidelines, and partly because Wikipedia editors can be so strict about reliable sources that they have biases against internet culture in general. SSSniperWolf's article was created and deleted dozens of times from since she popped off to now. Most of it was due to her only getting coverage from gossipy news sites and other trash sources, but some editors even dismissed good sources as not enough to prove she's notable. It's sad that this incident will probably be the only way she ever gets an article now.

On the surface, his persistent uploads could be viewed as harrassment if somebody wasn't willing to watch a few and realise he has some very clear rules. He never comments on her physical appearance, her intelligence, or attacks her fans. He explicitly just criticises the lack of credit, the lack of transformative additions to the content, and the cookie cutter editing. Plus, him churning out so much low effort content wasn't just part of the bit. It was drawing attention, and people on TikTok were getting informed about their videos being stolen and were copyright claming them. And her team were desperately cutting out offending clips, and in one case even outright deleted one of her videos. They clearly know they couldn't defend the content on the grounds of 'fair use', which to me highlights that they know what they're doing is theft but KZbin's just cool with it.

Just a small correction: The JJJacksfilms channel was created last year as a parody of react channels in general, and it was abandoned shortly after since it was only meant to be a short lived joke. He only started uploading SSSniperwolf-centric content when he revived it about a month ago.

I would say he was more on the end of the first wave and begining of second wave of OGs. He's honestly probably one of the least problematic KZbinrs. Your Grammer Sucks and Yesterday I Asked You (Yiay) are based on audience participation and he's always given credit to anything he's used. Been watching him for a decade. So, I didn't quite understand what he was doing at first. It was very out of left field. But, finding out it was his way of calling her out for not crediting peoples content she's reacting to and crediting them himself, I get it. I also get he opened a can of worms and opened himself to the drama online. But, as you said, it should have never been taken offline. Doxxing someone is just an whole other level. Doesn't matter if he's address is online. I guarantee the majority didn't know where he lived or what his home looked like before what she did. He might not be currently her level of famous, but he's still famous enough to be in danger. And she can act dumb all she wants, but she knew what she was doing. She was totally doing this to get her army to stop him via harassment. I hope he files charges or sues. Even if he doesn't win, he should do it on principle alone.

So Jacksfilms is one of the elder KZbin channels, 17 years on the site (Their oldest surviving video was posted Jun 26th of 2006) all that time and still not even 5 million subscribers. However he's done well for himself, having multiple series that became highly popular throughout KZbin history to the point there are bigger creators who reference them. For example he has 'Yesterday I asked you' Yiay, which both Game theory and Pewdiepie reference. He's no slouch and not an unknown amoung the youtube space but he isn't the most well known. Knowing of Jacksfilms could grant a kind of hipster status.

I was so conflicted by this drama. I'm a fan of Jack's and have been watching his JJJacksfilms stuff. Then the doxx happened and he demanded for her to be deplatformed and I'm totally against it. I've always been firmly against cancellation or censorship. I get what she did was illegal but I say go to the police. At the very least Jack can get it on record and even file for a restraining order. Then if she does anything else to mess with him the police can sort it. Plus the biggest issue with doxxing is people target your house for their "pranks". So Jack's gotta make sure the police know his address. All in all it sucks and I do hope Sniper faces some form of consequence for being such a pos.

That's a refreshing take. I'm also always wary of calls for deplatformation (?) but if we have to agree on somewhere to draw the line, I think doxxing is reasonable. It's not really censorship at that point so much as it is preventing someone from using their platform to commit crime.

Like just let the police sort it out and let KZbin penalise her how they see fit. But also accept that they might not do anything. It might not even be considered doxxing depending on people's definitions. Most people's real names and addresses are freely available online. It isn't really information we have historically kept hidden from the world. That is why I'm saying Jack should get the police involved. Get a restraining order. Really make sure that it is clear what Sniper can and cant do so if crosses that line, it is clear what her punishment should be.

I will say, regardless of Buckley's take on this issue and as a hyper-fan of Jack Douglas's past content (especially his YMS series since episode 1): I had forgotten about the Jacksfilms channel and knew absolutely nothing about SniperWolf until this controversy broke out. Regardless of who is right or wrong, one thing is for sure: they both received an enormous boost to their brands; this was a PR masterpiece for them and especially for KZbin corporate. Your passion and empathy for either content creator was milked, probably at your expense. The best thing you can do for your own health and dignity is to not care when this sort of drama ever arises again.
