The problem with builds like this is keeping in mind that career mode has the limited parts and size of starting rockets. This severely hampers the low tier levels.

is tier 1 actually impossible for SSTOs? i'm talking putting the small engine in a line one in front of the others, offsetting them so they're not hitting each other, setting their thrust to the minimum possible, launching them all at once (one stage), would that achieve orbit possibly or is there some sort of hard diminishing return cap just before orbital Dv levels?

@@sebdapleb1523 I could be wrong but I don't think the initial SRB you get at tier 1 is that bad ISP wise compared to the more advanced one, what I am proposing is essentially just a gigantic pancake of lvl1 SRBs node occluded (attached in line and offset later), acting as a compound SSRT with enough burntime to reach orbit I mean it has to be possible, the question is only if it takes dozens, hundreds or thousands of CPU melting parts to do, but if a part gives you some Dv, and you only need ~4000 of it, there comes a point (hopefully pretty quickly) where just adding moar boosters gives you enough useful mass for a kerbal and capsule

i feel like your overheating issues are from reentering too shallow. with a steeper reentry, your peak heating is much higher but you slow down quickly enough that the spacecraft doesn't have time to absorb that heat. might also be possible to expiriment with making it passively unstable so that oscillations keep it from having one end pointed into the airstream too long.

I bet you could make an SSTO on tier one by having several boosters on struts in one stage and tweaking their throttle until it lasts all the way up to orbit, but that sounds way more difficult than just... getting to tier 2 with a regular mission

I'm fairly sure you can auto strut in career just need to set advance tweaks. I mostly play career and never not had it. And for the heating problem try going in at different attitudes. The longer you are aero breaking the hotter it gets. If you can punch through more vertical basically reverse your takeoff profile. Then hammer the breaks (gas) to slow down so the chutes can deploy and catch you. In the thicker atmosphere. Stock t-2 is hard, often I have to have at least 1 science node in t-3 be it engines, wings or survival next video could be a caviot for t2 plus 1 t3 node and what is the best to get ssto

Good construction is: - Mk1 Command Pod (without monopropellant, of course); - Mk16 Parachute; - 14 x FL-T100 Fuel Tanks, all autostruted; - Reliant engine (even not Swivel). It is not very easy to fly (and especially to land), but I think it's optimal. 14 fuel tanks are quite enough for orbit, deorbit and safe landing (or rather splashdown), more is too heavy.

Quit straight foword, you cant do much with ssto at tear 2, I think the pilot parachuting is a cool throwback to what the Soviets had to do in their early rocketry. Anyways really happy with that throwback to the solar nation series, even tho it is old and outdated it is still one of my favourite ksp series, so nostalgic I love it ❤❤❤

@@vaos3712 I didnt mean it like that. I just meant that if you activate the parachute before it can deploy, it will deploy itself as soon as it can do so safeley without destruction. It helps with timing.

@@vaos3712 Yeah I know. I just thought scuicide burn timing could be improved, and the parachute would still activate on time. Maybe add nine of those rockets in a square so more fuel, thrust, parachutes, etc. Also I thought you were on a 12 hour shift or was that yesterday?
