Like you said...they have been casting engine blocks for 100 years. There is NO excuse to for leaving sand in the block. You did a good thing flushing the coolant system. Let's hope the oil filter has captured sand in the lube system!

My first oil change at 500 miles. I hope that helped. And every 3000-4000 miles after.

As a mechanic for over 20 years I highly approve this video brother. Shame on Ram for this overlook.

Appreciate it brother! It’s a real shame for sure.

I think one of the best things I did for my Ford 6.0 was install a bypass coolant filter. It would catch TONS of crap. And it's really very easy to do. You just take it off the right correct heater hose and it will just filter a little bit all the time. I did the same thing with my oil. Still wasn't enough to save that 6.0 POS but I learned a lot. I don't think I'd buy a new car without adding those things right from the get-go.

Older vehicles had sand like silicates fall out of the old style coolant. The new type (OAT) doesn’t have silicates so filters aren’t needed. In this case it’s pure reckless negligence on the part of the foundry and shame on Mopar for not doing anything about it for many years.

Great video! I was just wondering where you have been and saw the notification. It is awful that there was sand in there. I'm so glad you were able to flush it out. I flushed my caravan coolant out 2 years ago and used that same funnel kit. It really is awesome. I changed my thermostat out and replaced the pipe tube thingies and the clamps. It's weird how your coolant was bluey purple in that one shot. 😂 It's cold in Michigan now, and it's been dark early and overcast for a week now. Good to see you doing your own work once again. You must have been sure that you purged all of that sand because you didn't do another pressure check at the end. God Bless 🙌

Good to see you! MI isnt as bad as VT with early night time becaue you're hours west of us and yet same time zone! My Dad used to play golf in MI until 9:30 at night in the summer. The dark and overcast is no fun :( And yes that funnel kit is amazing! Few things works so well! And between the van and truck I was buried in projects but I was collecting video files. I finally got time to start editing :) After the truck's leak diagnosis I realized I had no critical leak. I had sand holding open that valve. Its a simple oring seal. So my priority was to remove that stuff as soon as possible to save it from further damage. No more coolant smell! But I will keep an eye on it. God bless you my friend :)

My 2017 2500 had a bad thermostat at 24,000 miles. It made the check engine light come on. And guess why? Yep, sand!

It’s so common! It really is such a shame. Such a great engine ruined by something so simple.

I had to flush my 2016 wrangler JKUR... All kinds of brown crap in the recovery bottle.. I also flushed the heater core.. But! I think the oil cooler is still plugged... I'll replace it
@sstressflАй бұрын
The brown crap is oil from the leaking oil cooler :( Definitely needs to be replaced 👍 and another flush afterward!

Leave it to Chrysler to figure out a way to screw that up! Purchase a Chrysler/Dodge/Ram vehicle at your own risk.

I know right? I really thought that sand casting was pretty well figured out by now. But none of the brands are doing well. They’ve cut quality to chase profits and it’s showing with steady annual increases in recalls and warranty work….as well as more class action lawsuits.
