The biggest mistakes people make when planting avocados outside especially in zone 9a-9b is they don’t use enough mulch. The mulch keeps roots cool and hydrated in the summer and warm and from freezing in the winter. I use at least 12 inches of mulch on all my trees. Some have 2 feet of mulch. This will keep them healthy and hardier for summer heat and winter cold. I recommend putting 1 string of Christmas lights during winter months and covering them with shade cloth. The lights will give off enough heat so they won’t freeze. Trees planted in the ground grow faster and are a lot happier! I hope this helps. I might do a video here soon to illustrate.

I think that was the problem here. By the time I got over there to dig it up it was toast.

Thank you so much!! Going to try and save my 4 year old that I left out in the sun in Oregon in February, well the sun moved and left my baby in the freezing cold and the top has died. 😭 Hoping this helps mine!

Best of luck. But remember it may take a lot more time and resources to bring that back, you may just want to start over with a new one for faster results.

Hi , I’ve re potted my tree and it’s lost all its leaves , so I got approx 100 litre pot to which I added 25 litres of peet moss , 25 litres of vermiculite, an the rest potting mix , with a tablespoon of mycorrhizal fungi, and some worm casting , plenty of holes at the bottom to drain

I had a similar situation with a Murashigi that had similar issues. The leafs are crispy dry. I repotted it with a more airy mix and 2 weeks later I’ve got some aggressive buds pushing🤞🏻. This is a 1 year old since graft tree.

I had four avocado plants in pots on the patio, but got damaged by the frost! They were around 4' high and quite healthy, grown from seeds 4 yrs ago! Can they be saved? TIA!

Are they dark brown and brittle? If so just keep cutting the branches down until you get to living branches. It can be saved if you find living material.

Try hydrogen peroxide mix with water. I managed to revive a tomato plant that was like 95% gone. In a watering can I put 1/4 cup of peroxide. Fill the rest with water.

Hello! I don’t know if you still reply to comments but I really need help and I can’t find anything online. I live in Illinois and have a 3 year old avocado tree that I grew from seed. He is like a pet to me and I’ve been on the verge of crying multiple times because it looks like he’s dying. He has no leaves (and hasn’t all winter because I left him outside a bit too long in the fall. He just started to grow some new little branches and leaves. But then his stem tips started turning brown and crispy and it just kept spreading and his new leaves started wilting. I dug him out of his pot and it’s DEFINITELY not root rot. Ive looked it up SO many times and found nothing. This is my last resort.

Could be a fertilizer issue or a nitrogen deficiency????

Hi there I’m a beginner, I purchased my home and it came with a lot of fruit trees. One of them is an avocado, I came here in spring so I didn’t do anything to the trees. The winter cold here in Florida burnt some of my trees. Now, my avocado is on the yard under a big olive tree (very shady), has 2 trunks of aprox. 2.5-3 inches diameter. They look dry and don’t have branches But one of them has an extra sucker (that one is green) and taller than the two trunks and has some dry and damaged branches. I don’t know anything about avocados but if you have any idea on how I can save it let me know thanks 🙏
@TheElsinoreGardener2 жыл бұрын
Cut back the dead branches and try to see if there is living wood. Add water with fish emulsion to add some nitrogen or a nitrogen fertilizer and see if you can spring some growth out of it.

My tree looks similar, leaves are brown and shriveled, but the stem is green as can be. How do you know when it’s root rot vs. too much sun?

This one was pure neglect, it didn't make it. This is what no water and too much heat looks like.
