Sticky's Situation

Sticky's Situation

2 жыл бұрын

I had to cut out a bigger hole in the wall and didn't have the right tool for the job. I hate doing things the hard way, but got it done anyway.

Ax is a great idea. Sleek, heavy and sharp enough. You can always resharpen when you’re done.

I had to come back and replace what was there with a real lintel in my other video. It was definitely a sketchy job.

Great blog. Nice job. What is the name of the blue padding you’re using?
@stickyssituation
@stickyssituation Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate your interest. The blue padding is called sill gasket or ComfortSeal which is the Owens Corning name for it. It also comes in pink.

Where is the header? That's not a header. That's not how my father and I did it in Florida.
@stickyssituation

I put in the 4x4 angel iron lintel in during another video since the header I used was only temporary. The upper cinder-block was filled with cement and rebar to make it a stronger internal header as well.

Nice! What's the temp lintel bracket called?
@stickyssituation
@stickyssituation 2 жыл бұрын
It was called slotted zinc angel iron. Worked in a pinch, but it needed 4" angel iron to be more sturdy.

@@stickyssituation It's not even supported on one end. That wall WILL crack.

And you need to make a header or lintel to support the blocks above the hole. I cannot image what you are doing is not a violation of the code.

did I just see perfectly built house with support steel rods get destroyed? he just removed that house life by 80%

I was just thinking that there is no steel structural support. Such a bad idea, the weight above and around that window is painfully unstable now. This should be criminal, you know someone will buy this home. After this flip the buyer will spend an unforeseen expense. That could result in a homeless situation. Most people do not have that kind of money to save their new home. Just terrible. Blows my mind.

@@Kartzchen yes, I think most city codes require approvals/inspections for these types of modifications.

I replaced the lintel in another video because I knew it wouldn't support the load. It was only temporary. I also put rebar in both sides of the new opening and filled the cinder-block with cement.

Wtf....did you just find tools along your way....a circular saw and an axe. And as for the lintol, holy shit balls!

That is the problem with driving 300 miles to do a job. I expected to be able to rent the right tool and buy the right lintel when I got there. I will plan ahead way better next time because obviously I did everything the hard way.

Destroyed the house. No steel structure supporting the weight where the block was removed. This is terrible. You shouldn't be receiving money for destroying that house. That was not a professional job. This home has been destroyed.l because you have made it structurally unstable. The weight from above on that window frame is too heavy of a load. From the sides as well, houses shift. You removed rebarb, the corner is no longer supporting weight properly. This is not done properly. You ruined this house. You do not know what you are doing. This is really bad. Someone paid you, they trusted you.
