Laurence Fox has an 18 minute video shot at this time, in it, 3 separate protestors come up to him and tell him that a single drunk protestor started trying to fight with police and from this a brawl ensued, it's very obvious that the intention right from the start was to generate reaction from the police so they could claim "2 tier policing". Overall it was a ridiculous and shameful display by a bunch of drunken scutters, dancing on war memorials with cans of lager, drunk in the street, in the middle of the day, on Tuesday, disrupting traffic, disrupting local business, whatever their supposed goal was, it doesn't seem to have the support of more than about a couple of thousand people at the most.

Of course you need to have a multi tiered approach when it comes to policing, a risk assesment based on intelligence. The truth of the matter is a huge chunk of the people who traveled to London for St Georges were the same people who used to travel around the country commiting violence at the football. The police already have intelligence on these people. Then you add in the drinking. The police are trying to protect London from a mob. As for the Saturday marches I don't agree with then but the ppl who go they are not already known to police mostly, there's loads more kids and women and NOBODY Is drinking. Plus there's a lot lot more so you have to police that with more sensitivity.

No need, we already know. The police agreed the event with the organisers, it was not intended to be a March and the entrances to the area where the rally was being held were agreed. Those marching down the street were in an area that the police had agreed with the organisers would not be a route to the rally. The ceasefire protests have not had these issues because the organisers have agreed routes to gather and march and their participants have stuck to those agreed routes. In the few occasions where that has not happened, the police have stopped those marchers that have deviated from the routes. If the St George Day protesters wanted a march, they should have asked for a march, proposed a route, given details about how many people they expected, how it would be marshalled etc. It would probably not have been agreed on the Tuesday, because of the disruption it would create in the city. But on a weekend would most likely been possible, especially with so few attendees.
