Annie is one of those great performers who can cover other people's music and make you fully believe in the story that they are telling you, convincing you that the words that they sing are, in fact...their own words. That's what this rendition did for me when I first heard it 16 years ago and it's the way I still feel today. As beautiful and stylish as Nico's version was, I never honestly thought that it was her experience she was relating to us.

More folks know Greg Allman's and Nico's version. However, it is, was and always would be a Jackson Browne song for me. David Lindley's fantastic pedal guitar work on Browne's song just weeps and conveys a sense of ultimate sadness like few other expressions can. Much like Annie's eyes do here. Amazing, just amazing, perhaps now it will be a St Vincent song for me.
