Cat adjusters after the Texas freeze last year just gave up. They were used to hail/wind claims and got thrown full blown gut jobs with no mit/repair vendors around to help. As a seasoned adjuster it really gave me a confidence boost to make it thru that in one piece.

Yeah, those kinds of storms can be REALLY tough for folks who haven't run that gauntlet. It doesn't help that it got national attention - that always seems to make things more chaotic. But your next big winter event will be a lot easier for you now that you've worked one.

I binged all of Andy’s videos. Great tips for new adjuster. Honestly the best way to get good at scoping is to just get out in the field and practice. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

My advice, The best way for newbies to get experience is to get a job as a technician with a restoration company. Doing this will teach you the restoration industry in detail. Work full time as a tech doing water, mold, fire cleanups and then do IA adjusting on weekends or nights.

I have been saying this for a long time! you need training because most of the new IA's don't even understand coverage.

I Will be in Orlando too. This will be my first event. Got licensed in early January. Your channel has been a big help. Intend to make the orlando event a launching pad to get prepared and hit the field in March.

I've been doing scope only claims since the beginning of the pandemic and they've mostly been exterior inspections. I signed on with another one (IA Firm) that handles abandoned/vacant homes and those help with gaining experience. Downside of that is, you don't write the estimate. As far as xactimate goes, You can: -sketch it. -upload and notate pictures -write inspection report. So, I can use xactimate but. I don't know what items are needed to complete the estimate because I haven't had the training to do so. You're leaving money on the table for not writing the entire estimate

I agree to a point. The problem is that it's the carriers who are pushing scope only. The firms are only trying to keep up. I would disagree that anybody is leaving money on the table since scoping and taking photos is by far the easiest part of the claims process. And the pay I'm hearing about is getting close to what many people average for full claims. So why not take the easier work, do MORE of those type of claims, and make more money with less headaches?

Andy is correct, there is a great need for new adjuster education, in fact I know a few carrier examiners and desk adjusters that need this education. Many of them have expressed to me they have never been on a roof, most of them want to know more so they can connect the dots. This is especially true when unscrupulous contractors are telling them something different. I believe when carriers began dumbing down the system to task 6 years ago, it diminished the overall work product. >😁Enjoyed your show! btw I began as an agent and was mentored by another IA.

Thanks, Hutch! Depends on the carrier, of course. I know of a few notable big ones that abandoned task in favor of total ownership by the adjuster.

I’m confused at to what role an independent property adjuster plays after they submit their initial estimate. I’ve heard of different adjusters having all different kinds of authority, I’ve heard that some settle on sight, I’ve heard that some adjusters only inspect, I’ve heard that some deal with claim until it’s closed, and most commonly I’ve heard that the adjuster inspects the loss then writes the initial estimate then hands the claim off to a desk adjuster/file reviewer and they deal with the claim from there…I’ve also heard some adjuster determine coverage and some don’t? How are supplements typically handled, does the desk adjuster deal with that or the field adjuster? Do Dailey and CAT independent adjusters have the same authority? I can’t seem to find a clear answer to these questions. Thx for your help!!

@AdjusterTV 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Hayden.. So for the first part of your question - yes all of those things are true and depending on the event, you could be asked to do any of them. And for supplements, again it depends on the event. But if you're making a coverage decision and settling with the insured initially and a supplement comes up later - most companies will want you to handle your own supplements if you're still on site. Authority depends on experience level and trust. A new adjuster might have zero authority - meaning that they have to get every file they do approved by a manager before they can send it through. That usually doesn't last that long.. as long as things are clicking with the adjuster. Later, an experienced adjuster might have $30-50k of authority that they can write without getting somebody else to sign off on it.

Your managers on your first few storms makes a huge difference in the beginning, I lucked out but I have gotten desperate calls from desk adjusters who don't even know how to write an estimate at all and there manager is non existent. But I agree nobody's first storm should be a major hurricane your almost guranteed to fail.

Yeah, I think I was pretty lucky that my first storm was a hail storm in the burbs. That was in 2000. I didn't work my first hurricane until 2004.

How easy is it to become a claims adjuster with no experience working from home in 2022? Is there a video you've already done explaining this or is there something we should know before trying to jump into such a thing
