I live in a fairly remote area of Canada and accessibility to other ranges is limited. Citadel is the dominant range by a long shot but there are vendors providing other ranges. Vallejo is a nightmare to source in Eastern Canada (aside from online), Two thin Coats is expensive to import I haven't see The Army Painter anywhere, so I like the videos that help me be more consumer smart before I make a purchase. @charlesnunya2347 hello. I hope you are well. Have you tried any of the paints from the sets in this video yet? I have all three sets now, and I love the Rogue Hobbies set. The Matt Cexwish and Ben Komets sets aren't really to my taste, but I have found uses for them. I'm a huge sucker for Pro-Acryl; if I could get hold of their sable brushes I'd use them as I've heard they're excellent. Almost everything they make is excellent; their primer is the best I've used so far. I'm looking to buy some Mr Hobby surface soon, I wonder whether Pro-Acryl will still my favourite after as I've heard Mr Hobby makes excellent products. My only complaints with Pro-Acryl paint is from some of their first set as, potentially, mine are quite old. I have some weird problems with them. I can't glaze with any paints from the 'base set' because they all produce a weird cloudy effect. I do not have this problem with the other sets. The only paint from the three new sets that I don't like is bold titanium white; my bottle is not white, it has a weird light cream tone; double/heavy cream is almost perfect as an example of what my bold titanium white looks like. Slightly lighter than pale sand from Vallejo. It's very strange. What other brands of paint do you like? I'm a huge fan of AK 3rd gen paints. I'm slowly building the full colour range.

Sorry for the long comment: 1. Yes to more top paints per paint range. 2. One step further: I’d love to see a video or series of videos on you building your ultimate “range” from your favorites across the others. Less as recommendations and more just to hear you discuss your thoughts and how you see different paints complimenting or interacting with each other. 3. Agreed on Bold Titanium White drying a bit chalky as a pure base coat. The new Vallejo whites are good, although I still really love Kimera Kolor’s white as my favorite. The new Fanatic white isn’t too bad either. 4. I’m old and have just accepted that the original GW bottles are my favorite. The hex bottles are #1 and the standard bottle (IE the one also used by P3) a close 2nd. I know the lids routinely break, but they’re what I learned to paint with and just feel natural to me. 5. I dislike the Pro-Acryl bottle tips, and have replaced mine with the flip top lids that still function as droppers. Might be my favorite version of a dropper bottle. 6. You remain my favorite KZbinr when it comes to paint. Ninjon I feel is about the closest who matches your detail and depth and you’re ability to separate opinion from objective details. I feel I actually learn more about paint in general whether you’re discussing a top ten list or doing a full review, rather than just how the colors compare or how to paint a specific model or achieve a specific effect. 7. What would be in the Stahly Signature Series?

@@MrPigments no, I have Nostalgia 94 paints, but I don’t trust Warcolours after they dropped the Nostalgia 88 range without warning. Fool me once. I love Pro Acryl, and I have the complete line except for the signature series, of which I only have the rogue hobbies set. However, I have noticed that for a line with a relatively mid-sized paint range, they do seem to have a number of colors that are pretty close to each other. I am forgetting the exact names now, but there are a couple of purples that are essentially identical. Additionally, I just discovered today that the golden brown and I think the yellow ochre colors are almost identical as well. I definitely wish I had skipped a couple of those paints now. I also see a few holes in some of their lighter shades. For example, I love the bright Jade that you just showed, but I was painting a mech in cel shaded style recently, and that just wouldn't work as a highlight. It was too yellowy or something, which was surprising to me because it didn't match the other paints in its own line. Even just using that one brand, I ended up needing to kind of mix my own highlight color for the greens

I have the FULL range of Pro Acryl Paints excluding the latest three mini-releases and to be honest, I have come to loath them. So much so, that I have put them up for sale on Facebook Marketplace and have bought the full range of the new Game Color paints (I already have the old Model Color and Citadel). Why you ask? 1) The bottle caps suck as paint builds up on the tips which needs to be picked off all too often (yes, other droppers can be purchased but one shouldn't have to). 2) The paint quickly takes up water on the wet palette, causing it to separate, and thus rendering that 'larger' bottle volume as pointless. 3) The first layer of paint can fail to stick to the primer and has a tendency to create bizarre pools (I needed to experiment and switch primers as a result). 4) It is ultra-matte, this is a preference, but if you're not varnishing your minis like me, it doesn't blend well with other ranges. 5) Not just the white but the vast majority of colours leave a chalky finish on the mini. I have literally needed to fine sand back my Bold Pyrrole Red off my Caladius Grav Tank. I have since substituted this beautiful hue of red with GOLDEN SOFLAT Pyrrole Red (which is not chalky). 6) Because of their ultra matte and chalky like properties I find them to glaze and blend poorly. 7) The range of colours suck. Prior to the latest sub-release they had SIX, yes just SIX, colours covering yellow-orange-red (two primary and one secondary colour). So again, forcing me to mix and match their ultramatte properties with other brands. 8) One positive is that their flow from the brush is second to none, which is great for fine edge highlighting, but again this is pointless with an ultra matte that is more muted against the base layers below and typically less durable. 9) I find their metallics average. While some like the copper, brass, and dark silver are excellent, the silver and rich gold are lack lustre. I'm sticking to my Vallejo Metals and Air. 10) Their wash isn't a true wash. In fairness I love their 'black wash'. I think it's the best 'panel liner' on the market but it cannot be used if one is to drybrush over the top (a technique I like to do with necrons and metallics). It has a tendency to peel away a fine film. So great as a panel liner, extremely poor as a wash for creating gradual shades. I genuinely don't understand the hype around these paints. I find the new Valejo Game Color range to be superior in every way. I also have a few AK 3rd Gen paints and find them very nice too. I haven't tested Duncan's but would love to.

Being colour blind makes choosing colour very difficult especially with some imaginative names on some of them. If you could select 15 paints across all brands what would be your ultimate go to palette plus one bonus item. I look forward to reading your reply :) Thanks you :)

While there are some staples in the Pro Acryl range for me like Bright Warm Grey, Khaki or Payne‘s Grey, I find myself always use colours from a different brand when it needs to be very smooth. I don’t know what it is that everybody gets so exceptionally hyped about Pro Acryl but they simply don’t dry as smooth as, say , Citadel or AK. They leave a very slight grain all the time, maybe it’s the medium, but that’s why I mostly use them for basecoats so I can use other, more smooth colours on top of them.

Well matte paints have a more porous surface on a microscopic level compared to satin paints, though this helps subsequent layers as this creates more "grip" for the paint to adhere to

I totally agree! But when I compare Pro Acryl so something like Scale 75, it’s just less smooth. There are very very slight bumps in the surface that I don’t find in many other paint ranges. Just an example: I recently used Mahogany, which is an exceptionally lovely colour, on some dwarfs but compared to Charred Brown from Game Color is just had lumps and glazed not as good. I don’t question the fact that they are still good paints and that bumpy issue can be fixed with a nice varnish. I just want to question the (to me) incomprehensible hype that is generated around them, maybe encouraged by their social media strategy of promoting everybody that shares their products.

What's the best solid black in your opinion?

I like Pro Acryl Black, Vallejo Game & Model Color Black, and Warpaints Fanatic Black for something more satin

Didnt they make a thicker pro acryl titanium white with a collaboration?

Indeed! But I feel it's too thick for my taste...

On the topic of referencing GW paints a lot: I've actually thought for a while that for Warhammer videos their paints are a very good universal reference point. If someone has access to Warhammer minis, they most likely have access to Citadel paint as well as most stores carry both. But not every store carries Vallejo, Army Painter, AK, etc. So using GW as a sort of standard reference point is a way to make the comparison land for the largest number of people. On the topic of Wraithbone replacements: I had the same issues with Wraithbone and I actually landed on using PA Olive Flesh as my replacement. It is an almost perfect colour match as well. Great video! I always look forward to your stuff!
