Yes no more with the water line but the instruction book mentioned to fill the pan to halfway of the lowest bearing. As soon as I've done this I put a line on my pan.

.Have the taurus 3 setup in my work area. Really great unit. It just consumes glass. when working a design, it's great to just be able to step over to the ring saw to cut glass. The blade it comes with really cuts glass fast....Although it produces rough edges. I end up cleaning the edges with the 1/4 diamond cutter.

Just add water until you see water is coming out at the top of the ring, right above where you’re cutting. Works for me. I’ve had my Torus ring saw for about 15 years.

Also don’t force the glass into the ring. That wears the diamonds out faster. Gently guide the glass and allow it to grind it. It’s a slow process.

HOLY COW! What a machine! So I just had to go back to my glass shop today and grab some orange for a project of mine and I just saw this same doohickey! Wowzers, guess I know what to save up for! I'm so lucky to live literally 10 minutes down on the same street from the glass shop(not to brag 😉)! I even drew out my own stencil design, without a reference💪, for this project. I'll be making some items to help raise funds for some glass artists on the west coast that lost their shops and homes. 🙏

I bought my T3 about 14 year’s ago and I still love it, the first thing I did was cut maple leaves that I sold on the bay. Mine just had a mark on the inside for the water mark so I used a sharpie and just drew a line.

@Makenzie Hallie, it’s called a band saw because the cutting tool is made in the form of a band (circle) of steel. I figured I would answer your question, I’m not trying to be a smarty pants. Coming from the Electronics Repair Industry, I see the totally enclosed motor as a weakness in this system, which I would have to investigate if there were any option of installing anything to help cool it. Maybe there are other models which offer venting for it. Now, as a total newbie in the stained glass cutting craft, I “just learned” of this method of cutting it. I’ve got a flex shaft motor and Diamond (powder) grinding bit. It’s the addition of a distilled water supply that’s important due to the cloud of silica dust arising from cutting action, to make.

My current project has many cuts that are inner small radius. I've been using the 1/4 inch grinder bit, but that is a PITA. After watching this, I just ordered one of these puppies.

Blade is the correct term. Bits are things that have a chunk that fits into a holder and you use the end for things like drilling holes. Saws that use round or loops to cut use blades. In order to fit pieces back together perfectly, just like woodworking with a bandsaw (or quilting for that matter), you simply add the width of the blade to the outside of your template and cut that. Hope that helps.

BraVo Makenzie, nice maple leaf pieces, good cutting video. I've looked at this model and several others. I like the ability to cut in any direction because the saw blade is diamond coated all around the blade. Like you say, "Push, Pull, Sideways... pretty cool machine. Def a critical glass tool. Unfortunately it's not a grinder replacement. It's a machine to cut out those rare very difficult angles and shapes. Not for everyday, everyday glass piece grinding! But it is amazing for its purpose!

yes you absolutely could!! However that would that would be an absolute nightmare & it's not meant for cutting all your glass! It would put alot of strain on the grinder/blade, very quickly! And for 500 bucks, I'm gunna use this thing like my life relies on never buying another 😂

@@MakenzieHallie Having a glass of wine (well, two) to toast my successful glass source find, I will not run the taurus tonight..I do enjoy counting to five and having two eyes to see. However, tomorrow morning is a different story. He also had 6 foot long zinc came pieces, another find. I am putting a 29 inch diameter window piece together, so longer came is better as I hate seams.. Tomorrow I start making a custom jig for bending the came to that diameter. Milling and the lathe will be involved. Sometimes I feel like Tim Taylor. The funny thing is, the store owner told me about another store run by one of his former students, it is 1/4 mile from my house....my fear is I will be signing over my paychecks to her. Gonna play with the foiler I received today as well. While I do very much enjoy and learn from your videos, they do tend to cost me a lot of money.. Oh, just saw your part 4 office setup.. I cringed seeing you stand on that stool..the safety people at work would have had you flogged, tarred, and feathered for that...be safe... Cheers, John

Amazing video! A question about your glass “mud”. You say not to send it down the regular drain. Where DO you dispose of it? I’m imagining between buckets and grinders etc you’d have a large volume of water with a much smaller amount of the glass mud in it. So I can’t see pouring all that into the garbage. I’m in an apartment now but moving into my new house soon. I could definitely designate a spot in the yard for that as the house is on a lot of land, but I also wouldn’t want my dogs to get into it!!! 😱

So you need to scrape the glass mud out after the water settles, put that into a small plastic bin with a lid and dump the water in the woods as it will have small glass particles in it inevitably! Don't overthink it. Glass mud in a bin, dirty water in the woods.

Is there not a water mark line - usually a long thin bump - that shows water depth? Or does it say in the manual exactly how much water to put in? 4 cups, 8 cups?

I must ask how did you manage to foil the maple leaf. I got a Taurus ring saw and I just cut some shapes with zigzags similar to your maple leaf, and I am wondering how I’m going to foil this. 😫

There’s no water line on the newest ones , you go to the last grommet and fill half way with distilled water

Unfortunately they removed the water line from the design. I just stick with the manufacturer suggestions that I read here. That bottom pulley is our guide. 🤷‍♀️

Kudos to you! You did an awesome job especially for the first time! What did you use to make the marks stay on the glass ? My marks wash off almost immediately, I have used Chapstick over a marker, white paint pens and even tried Vaseline, only to lose my mark part way thru the cuts !What's your secret>

Oh absolutely. You need a grinder before a ring saw. A ring saw is strictly for the cuts you cannot physically make otherwise. Its not meant for everyday, long term running for grinding edges of glass. It takes a chunk with it. It just also clearly happens to grind the edges at the same time. Two totally different machines for two totally different purposes. ♡

What kind of markers are you using to draw you pattern onto the glass. When I am using mine, there is so much water that the marker lines wash off with the water.

I use a sharpie! But I do get this question alot, so I looked into it. Anything oil based will help keep the lines on longer. So a chapstick, Vaseline, etc. I will say it does make for a messy experience, and difficult cleaning. If your ok really going in on cleaning the grease away after, I would say it is worth it if the lines just aren't staying long enough.

Hey there! Well that's tough. I have the gryphon zephyr too as well as two blades for each. So I've never really "gone through" a blade. I also use mine as intended for those random rare cuts so it's not a super often occurrence. What I'm getting at is I don't know I'm the best person to answer that yet. Lmfao. But from my experience, the blades hold up for a long time as long as it's takin care of!! Sorry I don't have a better answer lol!!!

What do you use to draw on your pattern? I use sharpie when using my regular grinder but the amount of water is washing off my pattern before I can get it cut. 😢

I use Sharpie! If you're having issues with the washing away, you can use anything oil based. Even go right over your lines with a spare chapstick you have or Vaseline. But BEWARE, you will absolutely be doing a much more thorough clean getting all those oils completely cleaned off your glass before you foil. But it will absolutely keep your lines put. They also make special products for it, which i will be showing on my channel soon! (All right on amazon. 😉🖤)

You didn’t show using Chap Stick or Mark Stay on your black marker lines. With all that water, usually your line disappears. Or do you use a marker that holds up to the water? Good video.

Hey makenzy, I'm thrilled with my ring saw!!! I have a problem and need advice please. I've only used mine a handful of times can't say enough it's a real life changer!!! But I turned it on to use and one of the lil blade stabilizer red grommet gears popped off. I tried to find part to replace on Amazon without luck. Also tried to email the address on saw manual book but no luck there either as it said incorrect email. Can you please help me with where to get this part? Dont panic, its easy to fill up now that we kno what to do. So idk why, but they removed the line from all of them. So the manufacturer said its roughly one gallon or half way up the blue pulley. ♡♡☆☆ ♡♡

If you take care of your machine, use it sparingly as intended and address normal wear and tear on parts then there should be no issues! I’ve not researched the company that makes this, they may offer a unit designed for heavier usage. If not, you’ve got the dimensions in front of you. Create one using an air cooled motor, metal guide bearings....... But, don’t attempt to make them for others, you’ll get sued for infringement.

No I get asked all the time! Totally aware how insane my nails are so I get the questions for sure! I used to get them on the grinder frequently when I first started glass, but now I use them to my advantage! Of coarse shit still happens on the rare occasion, but I'm lucky I do my own nails! Do you have to patina If you use silver back tape and silver solder? I don’t really know how important patina is or the use. Also there are different colors of patina, so do you match the color with the back of the tape?

You dont ever have to patina! Patina is for look only! I like black solder, so I patina alot of my work black! There is also copper patina, bronze, but it's all preference! But yes, if you want to patina or not, it should match the foil if the foil will be visible, for aesthetic reasons!

I use a sharpie, and it's always worked, no issues for me! If your having trouble keeping the ink on, i tried chapstick and it absolutely helps but is messy to clean off. Many people have asked what I use, idk if my sharpies are just bullet proof or what lol, but If you want to see me testing it out, I did it in my coffin sign video. I have also heard anything oil based will work like Vaseline, etc. But I haven't tested them out so can't say for sure. Again the chapstick worked, but isn't worth the hassle of cleaning it off good enough to have a safe and strong foil application. I'd say a clean surface with a good sharpie should work just fine!

🤞🤞 no matter what some of the stencil will wash away. Just try and work quick, and use chapstick for the more intricate cut. I hope those stickers help!!!

I’ve been shopping for a grinder, do you think this would act like a replacement for a grinder. Basically, if you could only invest in 1 tool would it be a grinder or the ring saw?

Absolutely not! This is not a grinder, it cuts shapes, you need a grinder for all edges!

Dumb question....so b/c it's grinding away the glass to cut it, you don't have to use your regular glass grinder to smooth the edges before foiling, right? I just ordered one of my own (I hate you for convincing me to spend so much money on a hobby. LOL), so I'm rewatching to make sure I know what to do when it gets here.

No such thing as a dumb question! Correct, it will grind the edges that are cut. So still need that basic grinder as well, for all the other edges. I'll be testing out the gryphon zephyr ring saw soon! Stay tunnneedd! Also, no price tag on any good art!! 😉😂 thank you for watching !!!
