Apple please make Motion equivalent to After Effects! I want to cancel my Adobe subscription!

Praying for a Motion 6 man. But at the same time, I have so many plugins for AE at this point, I don’t think Motion could catch up, even if Apple really wanted it to. What I think would be better at this point would be for Apple to incorporate full Motion into Final Cut. Give me a full keyframe editor, or behaviors control, or even compound clips that work like M5s folders.

My production company (5 person) is making the switch over to DaVinci Resolve currently after many years (I’ve personally been using FCPX since its launch). The Color controls, Fairlight, Fusion and collaborative workflow possibilities are superior. This 11 update for sure has me raising an eyebrow though. It feels too little too late but I’m definitely going to give these new features a trial run and see how it stacks up.

There’s a lot of people in your boat, Resolve is extremely tempting and Final Cut really has their work cut out for them
@joachimiseni64289 күн бұрын
I am also tempted everyday to make the switch and here and there I am learning Resolve on the side. But sometimes its the little things that let me stay there. Tiny example I recently had: I tried some Equalizier in the Fairlight Page and compared to the awesome Channel EQ in Logic and Final Cut it felt really weird and slow to use. Or that you cannot do multiple in and out points with favourites. Than the mess with tha Automatic Track Selector which feels compared to the Magnetic Timeline like a late 90s feature to me. This stuff keeps me there. The problem is that Apple doesnt offer a 1Stop production solution like DaVinci. Some stuff u simply cannot get done without relying on other Apps. And Apple Motion didnt even get the new Version treatment this time. But also I have to acknowledge, that in the last 12 months several cool features came to Final Cut. There were Scrolling Timelines, AI Color Correction and Slow Motion(both work pretty well) and now this Magnetic Mask and Auto Captions plus many more tiny features. They are actively making the App better lately. Compare this from 10.5 to 10.6 releases were every Update mostly only was that it works now with Apple Silicon. If they keep this pace in 1-2 years it will be very amazing and competitive again. I will try to stick to it. Also they announced that BRAW should be possible soon within FCP which is also an indication that they listen.
@TheJ_G9 күн бұрын
@@joachimiseni6428I literally just sold off my BRAW only camera because I hated all the work arounds I had to do to use it FCPX and I just don’t like working in Davinci; even though I recognize it’s more feature-rich. The slip, calling the Apple implementation by the Davinci Resolve name for the same feature, was wonderful. 😉 I find it hard to believe that doing basic edits in Final Cut is faster than doing basic edits in Resolve, or anything else. I edit in Resolve really quickly. One of the other things that made feel like this was just an Apple Ad was the mention of the transcription speed. Transcribing audio is fast on virtually everything. Resolve, or even my budget Pixel 7a transcribes audio almost instantly. Seems like a wild thing to be impressed by in 2024. The CapCut comment was spot on. Apple is so big now; they literally forget about entire product lines they have. Hopefully they'll start to do better.

Enjoyed the convo and this is a great time (at least for me) to be sponsored by Riverside lol. I’ve had both Riverside and Descript’s plan options open for a couple of days. Not sure which way I want to go though. I do a solo podcast (interviews coming) but I really just want a way to quickly caption and create vertical clips. I’ve been doing it manually but I’m ready to spend a few bucks to make it easier. In relation to this specific episode, I’ve seen a few folks mention audio issues. On my end, there seems to be an aggressive noise gate. The shortest gaps have the audio completely stripped out. It’s a bit jarring. Not stopping me from listening, and it absolutely feels like a one off mistake or something. First time I’ve noticed with your pod. Either way, thanks for the convo. Love seeing what Apple is up to. Won’t be swapping away from my Premiere workflow, but I can’t wait to see what Apple does with the Pixelmator acquisition.

I think, from what I’ve seen, is that at some point, Apple reoriented FCP away from movie and Tv show editing to the vastly larger creative audience in KZbin, TickTock and other users of that type. So people who were looking back at the time when Apple came close to putting Avid out of business and backed down from that believe that FCP is no longer relevant. Maybe not in movie studios any longer, but Apple is pretty smart. Sell, or “rent” copies to millions, or even tens of millions of people, or sell to thousands or tens of thousands of people. The choice seems obvious. The features they’ve added the last few years and making it available to the iPad, is unquestionably aimed at creators, not big studios.
@JamesZhan9 күн бұрын
And I'm one of those people where the revamp of FCP in version X really made a huge impact. I used to dabble in video editing with Premiere (even edited music videos in it) but never really found video editing interesting nor did I ever even considered a career in video editing-well, one day I gave FCPX a try, and I was completely hooked. The entire interface just feels so much more straightforward and robust. With Premiere, Workspaces work so poorly. The saved layout would never be recalled consistently. The fact that you can undock panels and put them wherever you want sounds cool in theory, but in practice, I find myself getting really frustrated with it. FCPX's interface just feels so simple, so predictable, that I always know where everything is. And obviously this is just one of my many gripes with Premiere, but at the end of the day, I just didn't feel creative working in it. Then there's the magnetic timeline…absolutely game-changer. It makes video editing feels so fluid, so fun, like I'm an artist working on a canvas. So yeah, FCP got me into video editing. I couldn't get enough of it, and I'm now a full-time video editor working at a university, and I LOVE creating videos, but only in FCP.

Why is the development of FC so slow in the first place? Their pace is absolutely glacial compared to other apps and it seems for no good reason. The market is clearly there, they certainly know what people use and want in this space, they certainly have the money (considering they have 30% of their hands in every transaction in the App Store) to develop or buy out technologies to integrate. Sometimes I need 16 bit when I’m really pushing it and when I’m using red cameras. You keep talking about speed as if that was The ultimate goal. Quality is much more important than speed. And I get paid by the hour so I’m not in any great hurry. You said resolve is intimidating… Yes, if you’re a simpleton. Otherwise challenge yourself and learn it and you will love it. Just about every major Hollywood movie goes through resolve… Nobody goes through Final cut! I know years ago final cut did not have audio tracks. Does it now?
