I must say you're pretty ingenious to have solved that issue with the Stanley cups. I cut one of mine apart like you showed and it made two cups so I put it in my Stanley camping equipment. I used the other one for watering my dog. I haven't cut it apart yet but I might later on. That was the best hack I've seen so far. And what I do is I put my MSR burner inside with the two cups cut apart along with a lighter and I add a washcloth on top and pack it down. Put the lid on and insert it inside a koozie or what "Shug" (Sean Emery) calls a "Cozy!"

For those that add the Ozark Trail SS Cup on the bottom, here's a tip: Obtain a thin cozy, like the promotional give-away ones. Put it on the Stanley cup, then slide on the Ozark cup. It will fit snug enough to not slip/fall off. This is easier to use than a band, eliminates jangling, and keeps soot/dirt on the bottom of the Stanley from getting into the Ozark.

Plus you can only boil enough water for 2 cups at a time, if I was expected to supply hot drinks and food for 4 people I’d take a bigger set, it’s a clever trick don’t get me wrong but I think using it a few times you will realise you’ve ruined 2 good cups for 4 cups that cool really quick

Some of you are missing the point here... Its not a 4 cup set if you dont want it. Do one and get 3 cups. OR, what I see, you get 2 cups in the space that one took before. Still a 2 cup set, with a Lot more space available. Also, the minute thickness difference in them really shouldn't lose much insulation... not much there to start. Personally I'd have to find those cups to do the mod... They were so bulky I never ever used them ever once, took them out and threw them into storage somewhere... There are several GSI mugs that nest beautifully, just clip the loop handles off.

What great hacks! I got your joke about the hacksaw hack! . Usually I just use the green cups for a planters at home or office and use disposable paper cofee cups in the Stanley cook set....saves weight and .use two if the liquid is gonna be real hot. Always rinse out the used cup.. and get 3 to 5 uses each.and then it becomes fuel for the next fire or use it as the outside cup for heat. . carry about 5 or 6 cups. Actually, all you have to do is stack the cups back together and it is insulated again. I do not think that the cups were vacuum sealed. So cutting them apart and then putting them back together doesn't change the effectiveness.

Great idea. How about a ranger band to seal the seam to keep the insulating value of the double wall cup.
@WayPointSurvival2 жыл бұрын
Sure, you could do that. However by stacking them back together it doesn't really seem to affect the insulating value at all it appears to work as well as before.

I just bought another one of these, and a walmart nesting cup which I'm testing as a potstand for use over sterno, esbit and trangia. These green cups haven't gotten lost, so I'll find lids for them and maybe make this hack

Outstanding! I think I have a pipe-cutter that will fit the cups. I'll try that way and, if it fails, I'll let you know. Double the versatility with no loss of function is a big win.

Absolutely! I thought it was a really great hack when I found out about it too. Thanks for watching.

As I was watching the video, I said the same thing about using a pipe cutter. It would make a perfect cut. Then I thought about sliding an o-ring up the exterior of the inner cup, to maybe friction-fit the outer cup in place. Maybe I could fill the dead space in between with foam... This actually opens lots of possibilities. I suppose you could actually store stuff IN the cups, like condiment packs ( Ramen seasoning, lemon juice, honey, hot sauce).

A huge function of the Sealed double wall design is for Insulation. By doing this you now cups that will be hot/cold to the touch and won't keep anything hot/cold.
