This is an awesome tour, Mike Curb first got involved with racing in California with sprint car owner Jack Gardner with Brad Noffsinger as driver and won two championships, Mike was also the lieutenant governor of California, JC Agajanian, who is the father of Cary was the promoter of Ascot Park in Gardena California and had also been a Indy car owner and won the Indy 500 in 1952 with Troy Ruttman who was the youngest driver to win the 500. Glad they opened a museum to celebrate racing and his involvement in racing, he has a long history with motor sports and helped many young racers. Thanks for a great video.

JC Jr was also good friends with HB Halicki (original gone in 60 seconds). In fact the opening scenes were filmed at Ascot and JC Jr almost got hit by Halicki when the mustang failed to stop and hit the car JC Jr was standing behind. Jr played a plainclothes cop in the film. They left the mistake in the film. Some of the cars stolen in the film were owned by JC and JC Jr.

We need a NASCAR museum where they literally take the car off the track, wrecked or not, then stick it in a museum. You know could you imagine seeing some of the most popular wins, wrecks, etc in NASCAR history (not deaths) still with all original parts. I know it’s not practical but that would be awesome and I’d pay good money for a ticket to something like that. Even kids nowadays like my 2 year old watches NASCAR. First thing that pops up on KZbin is nascars top 10 wrecks and wins. I wish my kids could see dales last dega winning car. I was there. It would be like a whole memory

Cool video! The Indycar collection, though small, is very interesting. The #2 Sneva car is from '85, and was the last Eagle to race at Indianapolis, though the car there is in road course trim. Tom had a good run before crashing out near the 3/4 mark. The Boat car is a 2001/2002 Dallara. The blue 98 is the very rare Ligier chassis that only raced once (Long Beach '84) in the hands of Kevin Cogan, completing only 3 laps and finishing last before the deal fell apart. The plum-colored is an '86 Eagle from early that year with Jan Lammers, before teething and money problems KO'd the effort.

Wish my pops was still alive. He had some stories about Mike Curb and Curb records. He and his band was to sign with Curb records but they showed up a week early as they were given the wrong date to be to Nashville on purpose. Really soured em all with the whole record deal stuff. Record execs are something else.

You should listen to Becoming Earnhardt, Dale Jr’s podcast all about Dale Sr’s career. The first 8 episodes are all about the 1979 rookie of the year season. 1980 is next and episodes will probably be released sometime next Summer. I am sure you will learn everything you need to know about that #2 car that won the 1980 championship.

Well, another museum to add to the visit list for this year. This past weekend I was at the Wood Brothers Museum in Stuart, VA, and watched Leonard Wood fire up a Ford (obviously) 390V8, topped with a tiny Holley carb replica he built and tuned. That big ole FE engine ran like a top with that super tiny carb- no more than 1/3 the size of a 750 Holley. Aside from seeing that, just being around such a legend as Leonard Wood and listening to him talk about engines and carbs was amazing. Now I have to see Mike Curb's place. Thanks for making me aware of it's existence!

Dang it! dang it! dang it! I was in Kannapolis two years ago and the vincity areas during the week, after the Charlotte's roval race was over. I went by the single A stadium, drove by the old house, went to see the statue in the downtown area and I let this place get under my radar! Guess now I have two reasons to come back. 1) Get Richard Childress's autograph somehow and 2) check this place out! Hell, who am I kidding, I just want to go back period...

I grew up at Ascot park here in Gardena Ca “Los Angeles” and Mike Curb motorsports was a household name for as long as I can remember. 1970’s to present. Mike Curb CRA California Racing Association open wheel sprint car teams were always in the top three. Curb and Agajanian were teamed up with #98 Indy cars for over 3 decades with drivers from sprint cars. I would say Mike Curb was partial to open wheel sprint car drivers too. I would also say that Mike Curbs love for racing runs just about as deep as it could get. I recommend searching for old Ascot footage here on KZbin to see just how influential Mike Curb and JC Agajanian to auto racing. I’d be hard pressed we will ever see a pair of men like Curb and Agajanian ever again. Btw,, the list of drivers that dominated open wheel sprint cars from the Ascot era is long and deserved recognition. The Jones, Andrettis, Foyt, Vogler, and dozens of other champion caliber drivers that raced Ascot parks 1/2 mile dirt oval, including the World of Outlaws throughout all those years. I’m going to go out on a limb and say this,,,,, if it wasn’t for the Agajanian’s Ascot park auto racing might not have ever known who Mike Curb motorsports is. Something to think about. I love this channel and hearing about the history of motorsports. Those were some great men with personalities unmatched today. Channels like this preserve it and keep it alive. 🙌🏻

Curb is still involved in IndyCar racing. They were involved with the cars that won the 500 with Dan Wheldon in 2011 and Alexander Rossi in 2016, and sat on the pole with Marco Andretti in 2020. And Cary Agajanian's father, J.C., was where the #98 came from. Long before Mike Curb got involved, J.C. won the Indy 500 as a car owner with Troy Ruttman in 1952 and Parnelli Jones in '63.

When I saw the familiar to me Agajanian name as a sponsor it brought back some early memories of my interest in Indy cars like the big Offenhauser powered roadsters that dominated the sport back then. Some of the first model cars I built were of that era. Years later I got to tour the Indy museum several times and see the actual cars. Those guys needed a wheelbarrow to load their balls in! Of course Super Tex aka A J Foyt has wone more than anyone.

Outstanding History Video Again! The #98 has been a Agajanian number for a long time, and always good looking cars no matter the series. The Brad Noffsinger non wing sprint car ran with CRA, the home track was Ascot in CA. that was ran by Agajanian. I knew from way back Mike Curb was involved in motorsports, I did not know there was a Curb museum till now, I would love to make it to the 704 area code and see just part of the places you have shown us! Thanks for all the video / edit work and tracking down the History.

I love you’re commitment to the old school racing. I was super anxious to watch this video hoping it would verify something I’m passionate about, the 1984 STP Pontiac. I’m a big Petty fan and the 1984 Pontiac is my favorite. I love the Chargers, Wing car, but there was just something special about the ‘84 Pontiac with the chrome wheels, chrome bumpers, etc.. Anyway, the 200 win car is not in doubt. It belongs to the Smithsonian and it’s pedigree is confirmed. Now, the 199 car. It’s with a great deal of confidence I do believe this is the 199 win car at the Curb Museum. It just makes sense that Curb would want to have this car in his collection, especially since he owned it in 1984. I don’t think he’d sell it back to Petty museum (all things considered). Now here’s where I get excited. I’ve been to the Petty Museum many times. I know people there. I was privileged to see the Smithsonian car while it was loaned to the Petty Museum and have several detail pictures of it. Anyway, it was decided it would be a fitting event for Richard to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the 200 win by driving a REPLICA of the 200 win car . I have it from top authority’s the car you see when you walk in Petty Museum is the replica car in question. I was told the car (at least the chassis) was collected from a downtown Charlotte restaurant and subsequently restored to a close replica of the 200 win car and indeed the car Richard took parade laps in before the anniversary Firecracker 400. In fact, I have photos of Greg shaking the car down at Rockingham prior to taking it to Daytona. Here’s where things get convoluted. I have heard Richard more than once refer to this museum car as the 199 win car which I 100% believe is wrong (confirmed by Larry and Greg). I was anxious to watch this video because I was awaiting confirmation and close up video of the 199 car, which again, I believe to be 100% the authentic car. YET, what throws me is the claim THIS is the car used for the parade laps at Daytona for the 25th Anniversary. 100%, that is not true. Is it possible someone else took this car to drive at another time or event?Maybe, but highly unlikely. It wouldn’t make sense someone else but Petty drive the car. But this I say with 100% certainty, if you want to see the replica car Richard drove before the 25th Anniversary, go to the Petty Museum. If you want to see the authentic 199 win car, go to Curb Museum. I guess I’d just like for everyone to get the stories correct or offer information to help clarify why different claims are being made about different cars.
@bcbloc02
@bcbloc02 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it make more sense that there is no replica car and the one loaned to the Petty museum is the 200th from the Smithsonian and the 199 win car at THIS Museum which is still a museum car so Richard probably taking about this one is the 199 win car and the one he drove at Daytona not a total nother replica car. Then the stories all line up.

Q: Who does the last 40+ years of NASCAR/Indy Racing, the music recording industry, and the California State Capitol have in common? A: Former California Lt. Governor Mike Curb. Another great video highlighting more of the history behind some the biggest names in stock car racing. Awesome work, man!!

You also forgot Hollywood. JC (who partly owned the race team with curb) also was good friends with HB Halicki (gone in 60 seconds). JC Jr makes a cameo in the film. An early scene in the film is at Ascot, which JC owned. Some of the cars stolen in the film were owned by JC and family.

Good job, learned that those ports will work well at 9800 rpm, not street motors for sure, and propably not work well in bracket drag engines, you might need a 7500 stall in the thing!!

Well sumbitch! In March I was in Kannapolis for a meeting and ate dinner at the Chop House. If I had known this was there and free I would have made a visit. Badass snow storm getting out and heading back to the mountains of West Virginia then. Great tour as usual. Thanks for the time it takes to do these videos.
