The way I see it is the Polaris should run with a Perseus or two as a support group. They very much compliment each other. With the Perseus being more maneuverable, a 2 or 3 ship combat group like this could put a serious smack down on a larger capitol. Neither of these should be operated independently in combat without some kind of support. Add in a Squadron of 4 Andromeda's(getting updates again with dedicated Missile controller seat) and you have a fighter suppression umbrella. I know if I saw a combat group with 1 Polaris, 1 Perseus, and 4 Connie's coming at me I would probably crap my pants.

@@captainharlock3998 But that's the whole point of the Perseus is to actually go and take on a capital class ship. It's is extremely armored so even if there were a few fighters on it while it was firing on the Idris it would take a long time to do some decent damage that and there are the size 3 turrents to help take on those fighters and deter those fighters. I'd say it's 70/30 fight leaning towards the Idris but the Perseus will definitely be able to take on some capitals but not without a challenge.

Imagine if they brought out torpedoes that had a personal shield on them giving them abit more survivalbility via the shield needing to be depleted, but might have to have their payload reduced an the cost of them increased. Or if you could use smaller ships like fighters as escorts for the torpedoes that might try an keep pace with them in close range their shield maybe giving some protection till they veer off when the torp gets close to the target.
@elricengquist99893 жыл бұрын
It would be interesting to see something like being able to destablize a small area of shields with a specific type of weapon, which allows missiles or rockets thru the shield to hit the hull without fully having to deplete the shield, but this would be only for a short period of time before it stabilized once more.

A task force based around the Polaris I think would ideally include a Hammerhead, two Perseus, a Starfarer Gemini and a Crucible. Load the cargo bays with spare parts, ammo and food/water, and you have a patrol with extreme longevity and no easy counter. The Hammerhead and Polaris each are lethal to fighters, and paired with a Perseus, bombers and any other medium ships can't get close. Anything large can be overwhelmed by the Perseus' smaller torpedoes so the Polaris' Size 10's can knock out at least one shield facing, and then the Perseus' guns tear it up to be finished by the Polaris' next volley, if needed. Add a Liberator carrying a Vulture and a Mole, and you could stay out nearly forever.

Got the full set of "Corvettes" which I intend to use in a small anti-capital "task force". Org gameplay is a prereq 'though Carrack -> Scout Corvette Role: forward scout and target management. Basically this ship can't really fight but can act as a small Command'n'Control ship in the field. The Carrack doesn't have to fight at all so the captain can act as a group leader and direct other vessels in combat. Also the Carrack can launch a shuttle or light fighter (I think the Arrow fits in its hangar), supporting other fighters or defending itself. Hammerhead -> Anti Fighter Corvette (the ship is not a corvette but currently listed as one in the game) Role: screens against fighters and needs to work in tandem with the Perseus. Both ships are grouped with the Polaris. If needed, the Hammerhead can be outfitted to defeat other similar sized vessels including the Perseus by using cannons instead of repeaters or gatlings. Also, if fitted with distortion cannons, the Hammerhead can be used to shut down shields of a hostile target. Depending on its outfit, the Hammerhead can fill different roles but only one at a time. There's no "jack-of-all-trades" loadout. Either anti-shield, anti-ship or anti-fighter, but not all three. Perseus -> Anti Ship Corvette (again: this ship is not a true corvette but may be listed as one in the game) Role: fire support. The Perseus fields four size seven guns and is intented to take out ships of her own size and even above, when used in "wolf packs". However, if used as an escort craft for a Polaris or Idris, the guns will bolster both ship classes fighting capabilities. If an Idris or Polaris is attacked by hostile craft, the Perseus may tackle the attacker with its S7 guns while the Idris / Polaris don't have to turn and won't have to quit their current job. The Perseus is LESS versatile compared to a Hammerhead since turret guns can't be replaced. Polaris -> Anti Capital Corvette (the only true corvette so far) Role: Capital Ship Cracker. Seriously. A Tali or an Exclipse are using S9 torpedoes and a single one is usually enough to destroy a Hammerhead. A couple of them can kill an Idris. The Polaris comes with S10 torpedoes and can fire four of 'em per salvo. I can't imagine what damage a full hit does, but I bet, any Idris won't survive two direct hits despite active shields. The Polaris comes with 28 torpedoes, which means, one can take out 3 Idris frigates in theory and still has torpedoes to spare. Now think of a wolf pack of 'em and you got a serious threat that can and will punch a hole in your fleet if left unattented. That being said, even a small task force as the one I want to use, can take out single capital ships with acceptable cost overhead. Also comes with a hangar for a fighter. "Currency" manpower (cost efficiency) The currency I'm talking about is manpower, as every single player usually has at least one, more often than not multiple fighters and ships and need to be convinved to join a crew instead piloting own fighters. The sum is: 5 (Carrack) + 7 (Hammerhead) + 6 (Perseus) + 9 (Polaris, skeleton crew) = 27. Plus 2 fighter pilots. 29 players for that task force. The Idris, if crewed properly, may have a similar amount of players but is only one ship and comes with less firepower and less versatility per player. However: you also can bring 29 players via bombers and fighters to the field and may have the same result. It's just less cool :)

I think the Polaris is going to be highly dependent on the Vulcans for re arming or refueling.... Unless there is a large or capital equivilant of a Vulcan. I am actually severely struggling on which of these two to get. Perseus has a cooler bridge design, can easily be crewed, and packs a massive punch for its size! Anyways, I am stuck, don't really want both of them. The current $$ price is just so close to one another that I may just upgrade to the Polaris if given a chance, as I expect its in game cost to be much much more than the Perseus! I hope this video help!

Considering the S5 torpedoes of the Perseus, I think they are more of a finishing weapon for physical damage models. Instead of firing them at fighters, or even other large ships as an opening salvo, I see them more as an execution weapon. First you cripple the target with the S7 guns on those turrets. And after the target is crippled by repeated hits on engines, drained shields, damaged components... You fire a salvo of S5 torpedoes into the side of the target, to make sure it doesn't get back into the fight. In contrast, the Polaris torpedoes are its' main weapon. It is designed to launch a deadly nuclear weapons style missile strike against larger targets. Aided by the capital class radar and computer, it should be able to land rather consistent hits on large capital class ships. This sort of firepower will be enough to completely solo the shields of large capital class ships. Cripple those ships systems once shields are down. And deal the finishing blows after they are crippled. Trade-off being, the Polaris is rather squishy for the size it is, being comparable to Perseus and Hammerhead, but having noticeably thinner armor. Instead, relying on devastating salvos of torpedoes, and relatively high speed to hit and run before being critically damaged. The guns on the Polaris are just for defending itself against fighters and bombers. Too small to even dent ships of its' own size. Or at least, that is the design intent. And if we do get physical damage models with armor being a thing, it will play that way. But as of now, torpedoes and guns are just DPS. The large spike damage profile of the torpedo, is not extremely useful until we get to the S9+ classes, and just shelling the target with more guns until it blows up, is the meta. But once ships start physically degrading from being fired, and losing systems as they get damaged. Then you will want missiles and torpedoes to launch at crippled targets, as they are more likely to splash damage the remaining components, as well as cause structural damage that won't be easy to repair during the fight.

From what we've seen of Size 5's and the Size 6's on the Jav. Plus being S7 Ballistics, they'll have the disadvantage of an ammo counter, but no energy drain, with high alpha. So.. probably punch holes through ships of its size and atleast be capable of aiding larger vessels in cap ship battles. Honestly, with the new mechanics, caps and so forth. With ballistics being high alpha / high ROF with ammo constraints. Yea, my above statement may seem more accurate now, honestly the Perseus is looking more enticing due to its low crew count, yet raw pure focus. Sub-cap upto corvette sized, I don't think you'll want to be hit by four size 7 ballistics. For a sub-cap, thats a pretty insane amount of firepower, yet its likely got a rather low amount of ammo, unless we're able to fill half the cargo hold with more ammo and haul it upto what appears to be the autoloading system.

Possibly 2-3 Arrows if they'll fit in the polaris hangar bay, then maybe a sabre, an eclipse, and a mantis in the idris. Nice mix of torpedos for alpha strike, and heavy guns and lasers for keeping shields on the fritz and maintaining consistent damage on target, while the having a solid number of escort fighters.

How I see the roles of ships rn (exempting their actual roles) Destroyer (main ship of a fleet)- perseus, most numerous of the capital esc class ships in an org. Cruiser (more specialized and stronger ship, capable of handling itself) - polaris Battleship/flagship (head ship of fleet, expensive and strong, maybe a couple in a big org) - javelin Carriers/assult ships (carries fighter/drop ships and large amounts of soldiers/equipment) - I see the kraken being the good carrier in a fleet here with fighters, and the Idris as well altho I personally due to the three ship carrying cap ive heard about the Idris would probably use it like a marine assualt carrier with drop ships instead of fighters. Only a few of these in each org as well Support frigate (also numerous more specialized smaller cap class ship) - the hammerhead for anti-fighter support. Nautilus for mine laying Submarine/anti-cap ship - retaliator, good for popping up and dumping torps, or long range support for a fleet. Medical frigates-endeavor and apollo(altho apollo is a medium ship) Then starfarer for refueling For patrol craft (most numerous multi crew ship not cap or cap esc class) probably connies (personal choice), pilot has guns and two turrets and lot of missles plus snub.

I would have actually preferred if they just got rid of the lower back turret on the perseus and installed a larger torpedobay instead. S5 torps are very tiny, they are the ones that come with the Vanguard Harbinger and Gladiator.

These ships are going to be extremely expensive to run...Everyone talks about running a small fleet like a Polaris, Perseus and Hammerhead, my belief is that the effort to keep them running and maintained will only make them viable to use in major engagements and then I dread the claim time for something like the Polaris where it will be registered in days rather than minutes or hours if they are destroyed. The rest of the time the crews will be busy doing missions and making money to support them. Also, just floating around in a capital ship is going to invite people to try and take them out.

Polaris has more game loops I think. Perseus makes more sense game wise as you can run the whole ship with a crew of 4. Much more feasible for small groups.
@cj18922 жыл бұрын
I have a Perseus, and I so badly want it to be what they describe it to be, however with its current size and load out, it doesn't stand a chance against any of the ships its intended to be able to go toe to toe with. They say it has tons of armor, great, but i highly doubt that would stop the Polaris size 10 torps. As it stands right now, the only ship it may stand a chance against is the hammerhead. They really need to rework this ship and come up with more optimal use for the bay inside the ship. As it stands now, its a giant open bay that can hold an ursa, but there its space above the 1st deck that is completely unused. I really hope they bump it up in size and add more gatling guns for protection. Most people say this ship compliments other ships which is true, however in its current state, its more viable to just use other ships in this ones place.
@captainharlock39982 жыл бұрын
It's meant to go after sub capital and lower. Polaris is a fully fledged capital ship. If a Perseus finds itself 1 v 1 against a Polaris it means the Perseus captain fucked up. Perseus will shines against Nautilu, HH, other Perseuses, down to connies. Lower than Connies and the Perseus will be in trouble. Higher than sub cap and Perseus is yet in trouble. Polaris and Perseus aren't really comparable because it's a complete other size and range of ship. Like comparing Cutlass vs a Connie. Perseus is much more comparable to the HH.

Kinda missed out on the advantages of having a fighter housed in the Polaris which creates a larger array of dynamic offensive and defensive capabilities. Polaris seemingly underwhelming armor could be subsidized by better shielding equipment. Overall, Between the Perseus and Polaris boils down to effective roles assign. I choose the Polaris as a mobile base where I can move from system to system and do missions with the fighter. Most the crew will be AI/Blade (nonballistic armaments for cost efficiency) while the critical roles will be a skeleton player crew. Just the same if I don't have the crew I can still function with the Polaris. I think my initial go is to make 1MIL UEC and then move on to the next system. Could take a day could take a week. IF I am called to join an organized battle my ship is ready at all times.
@2N00BY14 жыл бұрын
tbh my problem atm is imagining the small turrets on the perseus to be any usefull at all. Everyone talk about them shooting down incoming missiles and fighters but for the sake of keeping it real, those are just 4 size 3 guns in total. thats less than a heavy fighter will bring to the table. And even if they get more capable than the currently look to be a ship like the polaris with alot more guns and bigger size aswell should be a pretty much no fly zone, while the Hammerhead should be a black hole sucking every single bit of life out of the universe around it (obviously speaking about objects smaller then cutlass class ships)
@brandonporter62234 жыл бұрын
As someone who owns a Perseus, I have no intention of using those S3 guns to attack ships. The only exception to that is if a smaller ship managed to survive getting close to me and started trying to get into blind spots, it could do some damage to them while they are focusing on maneuvering, and maybe shake them off a bit. These turrets are point defense against missiles, it was clearly stated that it was their purpose. Missile mechanics are not fully implemented into the game yet as well, so how they work now is not fully indicative of how they will work when the Perseus is released into the game, so how effective they will be against missiles is anyone's guess.
@2N00BY14 жыл бұрын
@@brandonporter6223 RSI said they didnt want the S7 to be able to track small ships any reliably, so you have to work with your smaller turrets, and just as i said before such a small amount of guns i just cant imagine to be any effective againt even a single only punny missile, not even talking about a torpedo. Missile would be to nimble to track and a big torpedo would be like trying to stop a schoolbus coming at you at mach 2 with a pistol. You maypunch a few holes in it but it wont stop you from hitting you. But hey who knows how they will implement it, maybe they just randomly explode upon beeing shot.
@brandonporter62234 жыл бұрын
@@2N00BY1 Everything you are saying is complete speculation. We don't know how missiles will work in the future. They have said many times that the missiles we have now are simple compared to the system they want to implement down the line.
@2N00BY14 жыл бұрын
@@brandonporter6223 ofc it is but hands down to where we stand now, nobody talks about the turrets on the polaris as they seem to be kind of a sidegig cause they allways are staying in the big shadow of the huge torpedo tubes, but in terms of dps the polaris is to be expceted to be very close to a perseus from the turrets alone (ofc armor and dmg treshholds getting introduced with that in the future has a negative effect on smaller size guns in the future). Point im trying to get is that the point defence on the persues is real pale in comparison to other ships, making it any kind of effective will mean that other ships can to it even better and that would render a missile or torpedo completly useless. Comming to a conclusuion of my words if you ask me i would say as it stands now the Perseus is pretty helpless without any support but will strenghten any fleet that it goes with by alot. and as you say all of it is ofc speculation and or anyways subject to alot of change.

I simply dislike the Polaris look. I find the Perseus look way more appealing, even over an Javelin. In fact I hope there will be a Javelin sized Perseus type of ship. Having those broadside weapons of the Javelin is pretty inefficient.. rather have some large cannons instead of spliting up the firepower.

@@Anvarynn yea I mean I guess some person might like boradside weapon by style. Just historically its going back even further than WW2 XD.
