This make and model is my first ever spray gun but with a 1.4mm nozzle. It was my first attempt at painting my car (severe clear coat damage) with a spray gun and was very happy with it's performance. Nice quality & build and easy to clean, highly recommended it for a first spray gun.

I learned the hard way with poly primer too. Keep checking your cup (pot) to make sure it's not getting to the gel stage. Once it does, it's gotta be cleaned out or suffer the consequences, lol. I now mix enough to make 1 coat on whatever I spray and flush after each coat if it's hot outside. It's a pain in the ass but the more material you mix, the faster it generates heat for the catalyst reaction. Never used the UPol brand but the Evercoat Slick Sand or Feather Fill can spray thru a 1.8 to 2.5 tip with no reduction with acetone. The fan gets pretty small with the 1.8. Thanks for the review. I could use an inexpensive poly gun and this one might do the trick!

I am learning quite a bit from your channel, so thanks a lot for doing it. Main thing I like are the suggestions for gun settings and drying times etc, you explain things in real terms and explain how the manufacturers settings are not the be all and end all, and don't be scared to try things differently that suit your own situation .

I got a Star/Astro about 17 years ago! I did primer/base and clear with it, black and mettalic silver sprayed well for DIY, 1.3 hvlp-01 I think it was the start of knockoffs after the Satajet, solid gun same body as that primer gun, heavy compared to the flg5 I picked up, just got a 2.0 tip for my Air Gunsa primer.

Before I was doing my car my god father said to use spray out and block it back, that's what he used to do in restorations in the acrylic days. I just stuck to bog and primer and my car ended up coming out killa. Have a look gunman if you haven't seen the vids I uploaded. I like this video also, shows the old ways work too in conjunction with new products.

Woops meant to say, spray putty / polyester filler lol
@adi2200us9 жыл бұрын
you can safely reduce the polyester filler but do not use reducer but acetone.I think that the reason it felt sticky the next day was the thinner u used to reduce it.

The first time I used polyester was thinking about never using it again went off in gun too. But then weeks later the left over in cup had not shrunk at all now it's a go to on filler filled panels.

Good video Gunman.We use polyester undercoat at my work for kitchens and it is great stuff very easy to sand and get a good build up without getting pinholes or boil .Usually only get around 20 to 25 minutes out of a 6 LTR mix before it will start to go off on a 30 degree day and maybe 40 minutes sometimes if you use retarder thinner. What do you think of star spray guns Are they any good?
@TheGunmanChannel9 жыл бұрын
brendon stanbury Star guns are a good cheap option for a spray gun, they won't last as long as the big guns like Sata DeVilbiss and Iwata but value for money is good, I just purchased a Star "New Century" 4000 spray gun so I could review it so in the next few months it will be uploaded.

Thanks for the video gunman, big fan. I do recommend trying out the devilbiss startingline for primer. But that gun looks awesone, I've never gone pass 1.8 because of texture but I should try it.
@TheGunmanChannel9 жыл бұрын
jose garcia Usually I'd stick to 1.8 too but this panel needed lots of primer so I went with the 2.8

Spray putty straightly to bondo or to bare metal = high risk of troubles near future. 🙄 Only right way to use spray putty is to seal it with epoxy primer. Spray first epoxy primer to whole area which you are gonna spray polyester and let epoxy flash like an hour or two and only then shoot spray putty on epoxy. After spray putty is dry and you get it sanded and its ready to 2k primer, then first shoot epoxy primer again one layer and after it flashes then 2k primer. That way you have epoxy under and over spray polyester. Thats the only way you might get good results with spray polyester if you want it to last years and years. Even if you do it like I just told, there is still risk of troubles which may appear after time goes by. Like bonnet there will come stone chips and spray polyester will start to suck moisture and thats where those troubles start. Spray putty is way more sensitive to moisture than bondo. Thats why I dont like to use it at all. I rather use 2k sanding primer even if I have to use it twice on same job to get enough thicknes to make my prep work decently good.

That's why I thin my Bondo with Fiberglass resin and make it flow better and use a really larger spreader, then I stick with my Sikkens Color Build primers
