I remember watching the Inner Light episode and then much later seeing this episode for the first time. I remember being like "Hey isn't that the folk song he learned from that probe?" Then it hit me that that is such a profound memory for Picard that he would only play it for someone he cares deeply for. TNG is truly a landmark of television.

This scene is a master piece and she projects a great personality that even charms the great captain Jean-Luc Picard.

In fact, the second theme si called "Skye Boat". You can hear it also in "Outlander" series. Bye!!

The cutaway to Geordi in Engineering and Data walking past, then peeking back are two of the funniest unintentionally comedic moments in TNG history.

Picard should've had that tune reproduced on a music sheet to spread across the world. The people from the Inner Light episode wanted to be remembered so that they would have a legacy but Picard only kept the memory of them to himself as it was too painful to share with anyone...until he met Neela Darren.

The song he plays has been made into Picard's theme too if you listen to it.

I don't really like that the only time that haunting melody with its beautiful and tragic implications only gets reused once, for Picard to break character by having a fling with a one-off guest star.

The song from The Inner Light... by now Picard had already lived a whole life in his own mind. This song is basically his love theme.

I've never played any instrument in my life, but I realized some time ago I really want to. I was thinking about ocarina or recorder. (I was only sure it must not be a big instrument like piano and it must not be a too "hardcore" instrument like a violin.) Then I somehow find out there is a flute called "tin whistle". I remembered Star Trek and Picard and... I was enlightened... I knew it will be my instrument. I bought my first tin whistle a few days ago. (I can play an octave and half of a very simple melody so far, but... I feel motivated.)

Love the Tin Whistle, I also like the low whistle, it makes me think of the native american flute that I also love. I recommend you take a look.

And I would just love to find the musical manuscript to it. I think that it matches a great number of similar music - especially that of Scotland.

Anyone know any artist/group that plays music like this? Really nice flute pieces filled with feeling, rather than electronic flutes devoid of feeling?

You're joking right!?! Without TNG there would be no DS9, Voyager or Enterprise, let alone the new movie franchise. TNG paved the way for all of the followers success. However, Voyage did have Seven of Nine!!!

Welcome to TV land. The place where the impossible is made possible by the ambiguity of technology that is not fully detailed. Its a quantum entanglement piano where each note is entangled with the corresponding octave note and using a quantum selection discriminator it can selectively play notes in what ever octave the person desires the note to be. I have no idea lol. It's magic.
