I binge season 1-4 in about five days. I’ve rewatched STD around 8 times. There’s something about this show I’m so connected to and I don’t even know why or what it is.

I have been a life-long Star Trek fan, from the original airing of the first episode of TOS (Yes, I'm that old!). My overwhelming concern with Star Trek: Discovery is that they have put their political agenda over and above characterization, story, and even science. Great characters are so very welcome to Star Trek. One of the most impactful characters to inhabit the Star Trek universe was Benjamin Sisko. The character had a depth and richness and a humanity that touched me to the core. The fact that he happened to be the first African-American lead character in Star Trek was quite beside the point, except in its historical context. When writers champion a political agenda over characterization, over story (and even over the science of a science fiction show), the result does no justice to the agenda, because everything is contrived to present the agenda no matter what. Damn characterization, story and even science, if it gets in thev way of the agenda. The use of Mary Sue and Gary Stu characters as cardboard placeholders for representation purposes is a failed and hollow substitute for establishing real characters like Benjamin Sisko. I am disappointed in Star Trek: Discovery for this failure. There is no character they will not contrive or distort, no cannon they will not shatter or ignore, no science they will not disregard to keep them from their agenda. Star Trek, at its best, had important things to say, but did so in the nuance of allegory, always careful to present the many sides of an issue, and then coming down on the right side. It is the difference between preachy, cold, in-your-face argument and heart-felt, warm, internal identification with the message presented. SJW's invented Star Trek, but Radical SJW'S may destroy it.

Sisko was before the endless bitchfests of sjw youtube whore culture. If ds9 was released today, many of your same crowd would look upon Sisko with suspicion, wondering if his being black was pandering. That he was grandfathered in before the right wing bitchfest does not chance this fact. Star Trek was ALWAYS a liberals wet dream, post scarcity socialist society, putting race issues right in peoples faces with the two colored face episode, the first or near first interracial kiss on television, etc etc. The same kinds of people bitching about sjw today, are the same kinds of reactionaries raising hell decades ago. understand what you are, and despair.

Star trek is an essemble show. Check out Enterprise or Next Gen, it's a evolving story of a group of characters. This by contrast is blatantly political; diversity championed by 'Wonderwoman in Space' as someone put it. It has great visuals and production values and I enjoyed series 1 but it's not Startrek so it's not engrossing, at least for me. I didn't bother after series 1.
