I suppose Mutiny is "inappropriate" too. Thanks Rick for so succinctly laying out how the rest of the cast do double duty as reflections of the aspects of self of Alice... (ops sorry I mean Michael) if you look at it that way and keep it firmly in mind that you are not looking at Burnham but a representation of her fractured self - it can lead you in some interesting mental directions when viewed through that lens - especially if you apply that mental model to Saru as acting Captain or Lorca's travelling further towards the darkside. Now what aspect of herself does Stamets represent then. Self-Sacrifice or Self-Destruction - Likewise Tyler/Voq ? I'll have to ponder that one a bit further.
@CertifiablyIngame7 жыл бұрын
I like the irony that Tyler may be instrumental in her _discovering_ (ooooh, see what I did there?) her own humanity, perhaps representing compassion/love that kind of thing.These are often synonymous with 'humanity' itself and would provide a nice irony if the Voq theory were true.

Correction - Burnham wasn't denied admission to the Vulcan Expeditionary Group, she was accepted with honors. Sarek chose Spock to be admitted instead of Burnham.
@demarcusfaulkner74116 жыл бұрын
Sarek had to choose between her and Spock. He chose Spock and he paid the price because Spock went to star fleet. Instead of the science academic and that's why Sarek was in such disapproval of Spock for so long.

@@demarcusfaulkner7411 Others might disagree but I believe that the creators of Discovery handled that really well And the decision to send Discovery to the far future was great , in order to respect established canon , and to expand on it on top of that , in an unexplored time Others may have hated the Temporal Arc of ST : Enterprise I love Star Trek Discovery , and I quite simply dont understand why it is hated so much (for those that hate it's "woke" momments , they are minor and break immersion only mommentarily)
@demarcusfaulkner7411 Жыл бұрын
@@mariolis for the most part I agree with you. I definitely agree with sending discovery to the Future was probably the best thing for Canon. As well as I like the temporal war. So far the only problem with discovery that I have is how they basically forced Commander Michael Burnham to go to the federation out of some kind of prejudice that the Vulcans possessed. To me they could have done a better job with the backstory. It didn't come across as very vulcan to me that they would allow her to go to the Vulcan science academy only to then have her sent to Starfleet. All because of some prejudice that they have. Because they forced sarek to make a choice would be completely and clearly a illogical. Which is not fitting with the character of that particular race.

There is supposed to be a semi-conclusion in a few weeks before it has a break and then a different episode theme for the next batch. Hopefully by the mid-season break they will have mostly got Burnham sorted out - or they might drag that on till the end of the season - even if they risk having the character progression be so slow it risks becoming tedious. But there is a lot of "unlikeable" to plaster over. The problem I had with Burnham is she says one thing - and does another. "a lot" it makes her come across as irrational.

Now that season 2 is over, I think he might want to wait until season 3 finishes and then do a follow-up or update on this profile video for Burnham. She should have enough development by then. There's been plenty of little changes to her and her outlook on things since she was introduced, and with that new arc they have for the third season, she's bound to develop further.

I think it is obvious that Burnham is an Augment of some kind... either her parents or Sarek tempered wirh her genetics, she is faster and stronger than a vulcan, she is a logic-fanaticist, the augmenting could also explain her obviously instable personality. she also must have orion-pheromones, because everybody falls for her and likes her, despite all the crap that she had commited.

Do you plan to make an updated version of Burnham's file? This 'early version' is quite interesting and despite season three not being over, you have plenty of material to work it. Though it might be a good idea to see what happens in season three and then do an updated version on Burnham. Personally, either way, I think that it would be good. Later and best wishes.

DIS is nearly as bad as STD as it allude to the term to dis or Dismiss. so then one can say that Disco Disses the Franchise. So Like I said hardly better than calling it S.T.D. - Ironically STD is commonly used in Japan as a short form of the English word 'Standard' for something that is default type or size. So even without the Sexual disease reference saying Disco is Standard or the new Standard can be either saying it's lazy or replacement for the previous standard ; so also problematic. That is why I call it DISCO and encourage others to do so too.

Okay, you showed the 'shoving Saru out the way to micro-manage his job moment' that I complain about endless, so much so I was beginning to think I'd imagined it. There is no way in any universe this character would exist. 1) Sarek does *not* adopt psychologically traumatised human children because he's smart enough to know that the only way such a child can heal is to be with other humans, 2) Starfleet does not accept human adults who pretend to be Vulcans to cope with being psychologically traumatised as children, nor do they promote these 'adults' to the rank of command or the position of first officer, where, 3) they bully and show racial prejudice towards other alien speices. 4) Vulcans are not and have never been this racist towards humans, even in Enteprise they didn't come across as racist. STD is moronic bullshit, the sooner it's cancelled the better.

I highly doubt that. SO like I said before leave the BS straw-Man argument and try something else or actually acknowledge the character SUCKS.
@JoshuaHillerup6 жыл бұрын
InsaneHippie hippieinsane she's a complex and flawed character, who displays a great deal of emotional growth through the season. She's certainly not a "Mary Sue" (and if you can't see the sexist implications of calling her that then I don't know what to say), she is haunted by both her childhood and for the consequences both personal and Federation wide for her failure to stop the war. She's thoughtful, and you get to see her emotional growth based on her dialogues quite well. But, maybe you have criticisms I haven't seen of her.
@thepbg84536 жыл бұрын
Honestly I came to watch this to see if the character has any redeemable qualities. Got to say her origin is just a mess, and screams Mary Sue. Tying her to Spock and moreover setting her up as the only human in a Vulcan society, excelling and even getting into Starfleet without the academy just is... well not only pushing it but kicking balancing a character to the curb. I get what the writers were trying to do, setting her up as a character who will be redeemed and in some way grow to understand her own humanity. This is a good character arc but a poor one for a primary character. You need to empathise with a primary character in a story on some level, or at least be intrigued. Michael is just... well dislikeable in her mannerisms. She is not a nice person and despite using logic makes a big mistake and in turn gets punished like she deserves. This I know is meant to be a whole fall from grace so she can learn to be who she needs to be, but it sounds so sloppy. Still I do like you analysis on how the character could proceed and develop, taking the concepts they set up and pushing them. However I will be frank I still feel that Michael herself should not have been a main character as it makes it hard for people to get into the series if your main character is from the start kind of a jerk.
