It's episodes like these that I look forward to the most! Seeing your reactions, Ollie, to some of THE BEST story arcs and twists in all of Star Trek, well... it's almost like watching it all again for the first time! In fact, that is why I enjoy reaction channels so much. Because one of my favorite things to do is watch favorites of mine with friends and family who have never seen them before. Sharing the best of my favorites and gauging their reactions! So, watching KZbinrs react to my favorite movies and shows is almost as good! 😀 But that's just why I subscribe to reaction channels! The reason I support this one (and the only one that I do!) is because after developing a true love and appreciation for Star Trek through other of its episodes and movies, you decided to post your full series reaction to my all-time favorite Trek, Deep Space Nine! Ollie, you really have no idea how much I look forward to Wednesdays! Every Wednesday morning sitting at my desk, before I even start working, I'm watching your next reaction! It is a genuine highlight of my week and seeing how INTO IT you get is just... well, my face hurts sometimes from smiling so hard! Like just now! Your reaction to "To be continued..." was PRICELESS! 😀 But, boy, please! 3 days?! Try a whole week between 2-parters! Or 3 months between season finale/premiere 2-parters! "3 days!" Pfft! 😛 I said this at the beginning of your DS9 journey but, OH MY GOODNESS!! You are in for some stuff, boyo!! And I CANNOT wait!!

Now that we know that Bashir is a changeling (but no one on the station knows) it makes sense that he was waiting for Garak with a phaser in the shuttle craft - and notice what Changeling-Bashir says before they fire on the worm-hole: "Here goes nothing" - the station personnel don't know that he actually means it - that he is the one who sabotaged it." But also note that when Tain asked Garak: "Are we alone", and Garak said "Yes", it spoke volumes of how he sees Bashir - his onlz real friend in the world - and Bashir's look of "Oh my gosh - Garak trusts me to be here as a "fly on the wall'. We see Garak "unfiltered" in this moment, and Bashir's look when he realizes that Garak is Tain's son - remember that Bashir visited Tain and Tain had said that he wanted Garak to live a long life in exile, surrounded by people who hate him -and that the sentiment came from his heart!

I'm pausing this to say this now. I don't know if you will notice and mention it later. Several episodes ago you noticed the crew were wearing new uniforms. The real Julian is stoll in the old uniform, he was obviously captured before the uniform changed. That basically means that a Changeling performed surgery on Sisko, and delivered the O'Brien baby.

No, a Bajoran midwife delivered the O'Brien's child due to their traditional values. I do feel sorry for Bashir, since everything bad tends to happen to him or Miles.

I mean, everything changes in season five, everything comes together, everything is paid off. It's just awesome too, to get Peter Allan Fields (Duet, Necessary Evil, Blood Oath) back for another episode. For the Uniform is so, so good and so fun and so much of a reward after building the Maquis and the relationship between Eddington and Sisko (and everyone on the station). But then the two-parter hits that just destroys the whole of 90s Star Trek status quo. Technically the Dominion War began pretty much with The Way of the Warrior. But now it's taken every major plot thread and pulled them all together. The Maquis suddenly are... well, we shall see.

You've had a few tastes of the storytelling power of this show, they are about to come thick and fast and take you to places you can't yet imagine. I'm really excited to see you get this far and can't wait to see your reactions to come. To put some perspective, you have so far only seen 2 of my top 10 DS9 episodes, 2.5 including In Purgatory's Shadow, though I know you've already watched By Inferno's Light.
@jasoncaldwell56272 ай бұрын
In Purgatory's Shadow is one of my favorite episodes that ends on a cliffhanger. Seeing all those ships coming through the wormhole is a sight to behold! This episode marks the first appearance of the large Dominion Battlecruiser! About as large as a Galaxy class starship, it's a crazy powerful tank. The old Star Trek Magazine had a great article on the design of the ship and how The Dominion was envisioned as "The anti-Federation" where the Founders have a sorta reverse Prime Directive that saw the Founders manipulating several species' genetics to be smarter, better fighters, more loyal, etc. The big Dominion cruisers were supposed to have large bridges crewed by several Dominion member species- the species with the painted faces (who bought Quark's Tulaberry Wine), the Karenma and the Wadi (from Move Along Home) in particular. Unfortunately, that would have cost a fortune on top of the effects costs in episodes with the big cruiser. Great to see you FINALLY meeting General Martok! Hell of an actor playing the General and he really gets the chance to restart his character from this point- he's not the honorless jerk the changling had made him out to be! A mention of ST: First Contact! I can see how a twelve hour long running battle with the Borg would have diminished Starfleet 's ability to respond to the Dominion threat at that moment! Ollie kept saying how different Zial looked- and it's because she's a changling! Or possibly a different actress! Yes, not only was the part recast, but the makeup team decided to give her a more rose undertone to her grey makeup instead of the "cool" grey tones used before. A good choice- it gives her a radiant flush to her skin which makes her look lovely. Andrew Robinson kills it as Garak as usual. His plan to join Starfleet was a classic. Work and Jadzia's love continues to flourish and it really grew in me right until Worf has that affair with a horseshoe crab.

26:47 Yeah, they recast Ziyal again. With the previous actresses the age gap between her and Garak could look too creepy. 39:52 It is *_possible_* that Bashir was replaced shortly before 5x10 "The Rapture" based on him wearing the old-style uniform. However, it seems crazy to me that a Founder would be totally hands-off with the Baby Changeling in 5x12. It's been "over a month", but they don't gives dates in the episodes, we so don't know which episodes-if any-had fake Bashir before this. And there are plenty of possible explanations for the uniform; for example, maybe Bashir's (new) uniform got ripped up during an escape attempt, and the only spares the Dominion had at the internment camp were the old style. P.S. Ollie, you should really put a while piece of paper over your doorknob. It's quite distracting behind the PiP sometimes.
@jerodast2 ай бұрын
Yeah I feel like the uniform was a cool "woah he's been here a while!" detail, but the writers didn't intentionally think through exactly which events that would imply a changeling to have been present for, because Sisko's surgery and the death of the baby changeling seems like a real can of worms. I sort of headcanon in a little fuzziness to the timeline here even though the evidence on screen seems hard to argue with. Maybe the dress code for the conference was old uniforms haha.

I think I'd heard the idea that a kind of minority in the Great Link either wanted Odo to get his shapeshifting ability back or wanted him to not be completely cut off from all Changelings. So that's how come Quark, and by extension Odo, had access to a baby Changeling at all.
