Who'd have thought WAY back in TNG when Worf first stood trial for the accusations against his father that it would be the beginning of such an enormous character arc? After K'mpec died as a result of being poisoned by Duras, who then vied for the Klingon throne against Gowron, Worf killed Duras as vengeance for the murder of his mate Kheylar, essentially crowning Gowron as Emperor. Later he'd win his family's honor back by fighting alongside Gowron during the Klingon Civil War. And finally many years later, after Gowron's ambitions had caused him to needlessly put his troops at risk, Worf killed HIM and, rejecting the mantle of leadership, passed it on to Martok. You could easily make the argument that Worf wasn't just a major character in both TNG and DS9; he was the single most influential figure in Klingon politics during the 24th Century.

That's all True Aaron, but you have overlooked something. Something small, but Odo would have considered it to be not just important, but crucial enough that he would not have let it go until he was _certain!_ We never found out for sure that Duras had been the one poisoning K'mpek.... Not for sure.

I was at a Sci-Fi convention years ago that Robert O’Reilly (Gowron) attended. Someone brought in a hand-forged Batleth (insert MAJOR jealous here as it was beautiful work) and a battery-operated engraver. He had O’Reilly engrave his autograph on the batleth. Talk about a unique keepsake…

"What is the response of the Klingon Government?" "They wanted to appoint me as the new Chancellor." :-D
@oldtwinsna83477 жыл бұрын
Except that earlier in the episode, Sisko specifically tells Worf to, "do what it takes" to get Gowron removed. It was implicitly implied that a fight to the death was one of the options. So, that was post-conversation never happened and thus Worf was not in trouble. In contrast, if Picard was the commanding officer, another reprimand would have appeared on his record.

The issue he pointed out being from the Ketha lowlands would be his major obstacle. From what we've seen, a military officer, even a high ranking one, is quite a difference from being a political leader. I'd say many of the conservative houses would not be thrilled knowing they would be following someone of a lower caste. Sirella was supposed to be from a noble home so their offspring would be considered noble enough. Irony is that perhaps Martok's son, Drex, might've been the appropriate one in the house to take leadership. Yes, that Drex, the one Worf bitchslapped at quarks.

When it comes to the Worf-Gowron dynamic... ...I actually think Worf's standing-up condemnation of Gowron's actions should have included something to the effect of... "I killed Duras... which paved your way to Chancellor. I backed your leadership against the attempted coup from the Duras Sisters. I still supported you... even after what you did to my brother, Kurn. [Anger building... others at the table sense this is escalating] Now, you squander our men to embarrass General Martok... who has earned more honor, more respect than you ever will... I put you in power... so I feel it's my responsibility to relieve of that power which you clearly have abused..." ------- I wanted to see him say it.. The character that was attacked by a barrel, depicted as a weak father figure (as the son was played by 3 different actors across 2 series), found & lost a brother, exiled by his people twice, basically had his family house wiped from Klingon history... ...I kinda wanted him to have that moment that "I have crossed enough lines, compromised enough in this toxic relationship" moment... like Picard had in First Contact. Gowron probably doesn't survive to Chancellor if Duras & his Sisters hadn't been checked by Picard & Worf. After 11 seasons across 2 series... let Worf have that "If John McClain was a Klingon" energy once. The "I didn't start this... but I'm finishing it now!" energy. See Worf let a decade of being jerked around by Klingon politics... pretty much lay it out how much Gowron has screwed him over and what happens next is Karma... with a Bat'leth. Or, seeing it in syndication now, like half the Klingon leadership in that meeting realizing Worf is the Klingon "John Wick"... and Gowron has killed "John Wick's" dog a couple times now... ...and someone could have piped up from the table..."Gowron... you're dead... you're just still breathing... but you dead!"

Sumanadasa Wijayapala No doubt, but he did deserve what happened at the end. Destroying the House of Mogh, driving Kurn to suicide, insulting Worf all the way...should've happened sooner IMO.
