It's one of those idioms that's bound to get more obscure over time. Hardly any of us use mothballs anymore; in a hundred years or so the people who talk about "mothballing" will probably wonder how such a strange phrase came about.

A good intake, but a TERRIBLE episode... Enterprise may not have been as popular as TNG/DS9/VOY, but they didn't deserve that kick in the teeth finale.

Enterprise was such an odd one. Probably 40% of the series was absolutely stellar episodes on par with the rest of Trek, but then 50% of episodes were absolute garbage, on par with the worst cliche hack writing TV could offer. And then only like 10% of episodes were just mediocre. The writing room must have been such a roller coaster of great and shitty ideas. I don't know how the show managed to have such lopsided quality.
