Updated Link: sourceforge.net/projects/sto-keybind/ For tanking purposes you might want distribute shield power option. If you need to heal your shields use distribute shield power to gain more shield heals. Shield heals work by applying an equal amount of heals per shield face. If a face is at full shields you won't get any heals on that face anymore and that amount is wasted. With tactical teams your real shield capacity is all of your faces combined. If you have tactical team running then one or more faces will have full shields and you will be loosing those potential shield heals. In the case of two full faces that could be 50% of your shield heals. A weak shield heal can do a lot if managed correctly. The way this used to be done is that you would assign one button to toggle your weapons on and off. This allowed you to reset your firing sequence, once things got back to normal. Then spacebar would be used for your normal upkeep as shown in the video. And a third button would be for survival mode. You would switch from spacebar to survival mode when things got dire. This button would include tactical team plus distribute shield power to get the maximum shield heals that you can and a shield heal with some resistance buffs. Once things subsided you can reset your weapon sequence by toggling your weapons for half a second and switching back to spacebar. This used to be a common PvP strategy where you could have shields stored on one face with tactical team, have one weak face. As tactical team came off you could show the weak face and get your hull low with plenty of shields stored on other faces. Flip back to a full face when you were low enough and run Go Down Fighting, followed by tactical team. So consider having even more buttons with different options. Good Luck!

OMG! Thank you so much for this video. Especially the very helpful tip @10:46. Funny story/Facepalm: I've been using an old Hilbert Keybind file from a couple of years ago. It was a life saver when I was rocking an Aux2Bat build. Over the past couple of years I really started focusing on DPS. The keybind was and still is very useful. I've been gradually improving my DPS. 15k, 20k, got to around 75k end of last summer. I never changed the keybind file. Never thought there was a reason to. After 11.5 dropped a couple weeks ago with the new skill revamp and the addition of the strategist tree; I find myself doing 100k in many ISA runs with 114k being my highest. Guess what? I still haven't changed the keybind file. I know for a fact that one of the things that bind file does is trigger "Distribute Shields". All this time I have been fighting with a giant handicap. I can't wait to create a new file minus "Distribute Shields" and see what effect that has on my DPS. Thank you so much for the information. It has cleared up a long standing mystery I had about why everyone's firing cycles seemed to put out so much more than mine. I now know that its because they don't have "Distribute Shields" handicapping them.

+Teacher Kirby All I can say is Wow! I set up a new bind file. It made an instant difference, crazy firing cycles and things melting like butter. Tonight I finally got a good lag free ISA run in a competent pug. I shattered my previous 114k personal best with 126k. I'm astonished. Thanks again for the great info.

I knew how to do this already but wish I had seen this first. I have now removed fire all weapons from my keybind as well as balance shields :)

I mainly use cannons on my tactical character would i be better using scatter volley or rapid fire.

Most higher end players will slot both and use each one based on the situation. I would say be prepared to use scatter volley most of the time, but you can have rapid fire for those times when you need to take down a big target quickly.

Good video! Returned to STO after years off and so much has changed. Was told about the keybind program you demonstrate in this video. From what I can gather from the video and comments, if you bind a full tray to a key, you have to hit / spam that key repeatedly to activate the abilities in the tray; it's not a 'hit button once and whole tray executes'. I assume most people assign a key to a full tray of abilities so that when you switch between characters that have different skills, you just put their skills into the respective trays and that way you don't have to keep changing bind sets?

Yes, also if you change that character's skills/build later, you can just change out the appropriate skills.

How do I turn off/override a keybind set? I goofed up and made my set ground "execute full tray" to "left mouse press" when I meant to set it to "right press. I switched it to "right press" but now the tray executes on both left and right clicks.

If you type in "/unbind" it should take care of it

Thanks, great video - tell me, if you don't put distribute shields in there, do you only rely on tac team rotations and other shield buffing abilities?

+Martin Miller Yes, I usually rely on other shield heals and tac team. The main reason for not putting distribute shields on the keybind is because it interrupts the firing cycle. This means that it actually prevents all your weapons from firing during a cycle. This interruption kills DPS.

+Templar No, once you create your keybind and enter it in to the chat window you can close the program. The keybind will work even if you log in to a different computer.

I have also been looking for more in-depth instruction such as how to incorporate holding one button while pressing another, things like that.

ok so far so good, just how can i auto fire at targets? i dont mean right clicking my weapons i mean in combat auto switching targets to attack? im getting gaps of non-firing at targets unless i hit 'fire all weapons' which i dont want to do due interupting firing cycles, i currently have the space controls set to 'auto attack: toggle, never cancels' thanks in advance

Right click on all weapons that you want to auto fire in your weapons tray they will turn green when on auto fire

If you still play the trick is to set it to maintain firing while button is pressed. While your weapons still got the green outline of being autofiring.

Is the fact the Shield Distribution interrupts a firing cycle with the key binds a bug, or just a thing it does regardless?

No, once you put the text in the chat linking the keybind file to STO, you are good to go.

Nice vid. I have a bit of problem however. I downloaded the program, created the file, copied it to STO and... it does nothing. I tried several different keybinds and it still doesn't work. The program's website was not very helpful so I'm hoping you might have an idea of what the problem could be.

Where was your toon located when you entered the keybind into the chat? Did you put skills into the tray you indicated in the keybind?

Hello. I finally got it to work more or less. If does not activate the full tray however. I have to click the key I bound it to every time for the next skill to trigger. It does not activate the full tray. But that's a start.

Patrick Marchand That is how it works. You have to "spam" the key to activate the abilities.

I was wondering about this myself.. and I usually just click my abilities instead of doing this. Never thought of doing a Keybinding until now. But without keybinding, I got to 33k DPS in a Pug ISA.

I didn't use keybinds either for a long time. I ended up hitting a wall at about 35K. This was partially due to my disability. Once I took the plunge and set this up, My DPS began climbing again and I'm now at 98K. That being said, I know others who flatly refuse to use keybinds and have made 100K+. The point here is that everyone is different. If you are curious, set it up and try it out for a week or so. If you don't like it you don't have to keep using it. The important thing is that you are enjoying your game time.

Ingame Keybindings are annoying slightly dumb. lol Shift+R for Impluse/Transwarp I switched that on one of my mouse buttons. Therefore, Shift can be free of multiple choices. >.>

It might be a problem with something like your antivirus program. without more details it is difficult to tell whether getting it from a different source would help or not.

I've had no pop ups indicating it's blocked. I'm fairly certain if I received it as an attachment it would work, but I will disable my antivirus and try again.

Still no joy with the download with everything I could think of disabled. Other downloads still work fine.

What exactly is happening? Is it starting and just not continuing? Are there any error messages? Are you running any pop-up blockers? Is it simply not starting at all? What operating system are you using? Have you checked the folder it was supposed to download to? As I said, without more details, it is difficult to help.

It does nothing when I click it. I do run pop up blockers in chrome, but not microsoft edge. There are no error messages. It just.. clicks and does nothing. I can download from any other site that I choose, just not there. I run windows 10.

Great video Kirby 😊 I have been running keybinds since Delta Rising due to at that time the increased difficulty. It really helped out. It has been awhile since I changed my keybind but at that time the instructions I found online for the power order said to put the debuff for example beta before FAW so that every FAW cycle had beta running from the start of the FAW cycle. I am not saying it is correct lol I just was wondering the reason for FAW before beta. Thanks again 😊

+Hillside Hiker faw before beta because faw has a slightly longer cool down, as I was told anyway. Since you can't fire till all the abilities have been activated both faw and beta will be active at the same time whichever way you do it.

+Mark Fair I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble. Not sure if this might help but the only thing I can think of is possibly anti-virus interfereing with it somehow. Make sure it is turned off and try running it again. Hope you get it worked out.

Within 1 minute of the video you realize it has nothing to do with key bindings at all. This is macros

macros refers to something that is done automatically. This video shows how to bind everything in a specific tray to a single key that the player must still press repeatedly.

I realize this reply was from two months ago, but...I set-up tray 10 as you show in the video. But, am wondering about the "press repeatedly" issue. When I press the key, several, but not all the stuff in tray 10 are activated. I have to press it several times to get everything activated, then "press repeatedly" to keep it all going. Is it suppose to take multiple key presses just to get the entire tray activated the first time? I realize that differing cooldowns will make subsequent presses necessary and won't activate all buttons. Very informative videos. Also, great pointer NOT to put distribute shields onto the tray, as well as Beta after FAW. Is there a guide or list somewhere that will give recommended order for setting up the tray?
